You having worked on this for years is even more impressive given that it's for *Minecraft 1.21,* meaning _every time_ Mojang released a datapack update (which was, like, every week), you potentially had to redo large aspects of your implementation.
Oh yeah that was a huge pain having to maintain it over multiple minecraft version! And the tool I used for the animations was in Beta when I started working on this and still used armorstands because display entities weren't even added to the game yet, so I also had to re-implement all of the animated mobs a couple of times :')
I REALLY don't like when coders say that it's compeletly vanilla while using Plugins which only work on MODDED Servers, so when I saw this I thought this would be one of those. But this is amazing! Great Work. Making this to be actually vanilla is unbelievable. It really shows how much is possible with datapacks and ressource packs.
@@shirothefish9688vanilla Minecraft is considered to have some leeway, as things like resource/texture packs are usually still considered vanilla, it’s only when you install something that requires a specific launcher to work, and in which affects the direct gameplay is it no longer fundamentally vanilla. @@shirothefish9688 no that's precisely what vanilla means- without mods and/or plugins. datapacks, resourcepacks, texture packs & shaders ARE considered vanilla minecraft. You saying it doesn't count as vanilla makes it your opinion (a random definition you just made up) not a fact.

Wow this is insane! I love the dragon mechanics , honestly I wouldn't mind if they added some of them in vanilla. Also I never realized that you can get such detailed models with only display entities and texture packs wow!

I'm curious what (if anything) you have done with silverfish. They could easily be the final "hurdle" to clear before reaching the End. A few ideas to pick and choose from: - Breaking the silverfish spawner destroys the End portal frame - (or it just can't be broken) - (or breaking it summons the "queen silverfish", secret jump-scare boss) - Silverfish fly and move twice as fast. - Significantly increase the amount of infested stone in the stronghold - New status effect: "Infested". Small chance of getting infested by a silverfish attack. If you die while infested, several silverfish spawn where you died. The only way to end the "infested" status effect is by getting poisoned (thus killing the silverfish "larva" inside you). Silverfish rarely get much attention as is. So it would be diabolical to turn them into this plague-style "no, you aren't reaching the End just yet" challenge.

These mechanics of having to find out the unique moves of the dragon and where it and the parts of the landscape have weak points really reminds me of monster hunter-esque mechanics. I love it :D

For the boss fight, maybe have a few of the tail crystals already placed and laying around on the island. It'd show that it's not just part of the dragon but also a block you can place, and players would easily find out what it does by fighting around them. For that to work though, their lightning rod/protection ability should have a limited range, so they only attract lightning and get destroyed when a player is nearby.
The attention to detail is astounding! I was sold on the datapack as soon as I saw the ultimate form of the crafting table! The process of making this all work is incredible, thank you for sharing it with us!
Absolute insanity! The attention to detail is really staggering, I couldn't believe it when you mentioned the heads adjusting to the ground. Thank you so much for making this

Dude! I didn't even know you were back making videos, but it genuinely brings a smile to my face seeing you doing this pack and seeing you and Grian collab again after all these years. This rocks!
I’ve been watching the hermits play Impossible Minecraft and I wanted to stay how fun it has been to watch them struggle. I see you have been updating the mod as they play always keeping them on their toes. I had an idea I’d like to share about torches, have you considered having torch flames run out over time? It never made sense to me in normal Minecraft how torches last forever. It would really change the dynamic of the game, even caving, if you had to deal with placing new torches or reigniting old ones. It would add extra complexity having players run around with coal in their inventory to reignite torches around their base, or when caving for a long time get lost because their way home is no longer lit. If coal is too expensive, then flint and steel? You could still have glowstone or front lights as infinite sources of light. Just a thought that I had while watching these guys play, really funny to watch regardless!
Hey man! An avid viewer of the Impossible Minecraft series here. I thought of a cool feature you could add if you wanted to. What if when you run with shears, it damages you? Similar to how if you run with scissors, its very dangerous! Not a big addition, but hey, every bit counts to annoy the members of the series 😂
I have a suggestion for spiders. I love the redesign, but they aren't creepy enough to really inflict horror. I remember when I was a little squirt I killed a spider and all its babies came swarming out. I was like 8, and it freaked me out so much I still remember it at 35. My suggestion is to make it so when someone kills a spider, like 10-20 silverfish sized spiders spawn and attack you. I think it'd be delightful to see the hermits flip a gasket when they're neck deep in baby spiders.
Loving the hermit’s suffering on this mod. Some Ideas. All flowers and crops have thorns like berry bushes. Eyes of Ender shoot beams at the players after being thrown. Hoglins can jump. Ended portals attract Ghasts into the overworld if left active for to long. Drowned can spawn with a shark and throw it.
That is so cool how you made all the components at 2:48 assemble together. Also, if all the custom models require a specially created resource pack, doesn’t that mean you have to overwrite already existing textures somewhere in the game, visually affecting regular gameplay in unexpected ways?
There is a feature in resource- and datapacks called "custom-model-data" which lets you assign new models to already existing items without having to overwrite anything! So all of the original textures are completely untouched :)
Okay, I'm in awe. I really don't have much else to say. The modeling on all the new blocks and entities is really good, and that's a crazy cool boss fight. And you've even _documented_ it. DUDE.
You should consider adding a new weapon that incorporates the lightning rod to counter the dragon's lightning attack (or just simply holding the lightning rod). For example, if you're holding the lightning rod when the dragon strikes with lightning, the rod could absorb and charge with electricity. Once charged, it could have two uses: a powerful melee attack that deals significant damage and potentially stuns the dragon, or a ranged option where you throw the charged lightning back at the dragon, effectively parrying its attack. This could add an exciting and strategic dynamic to the gameplay.
I said I’d go to sleep after watching Grian’s video, but then he mentioned that you made a video about making the datapack, so I had to watch it. I have never before wanted so much to play Java, and to try get back into coding. This is incredible. Also, a lot of people want an end update, but personally, I love that the end is one isolated part of Minecraft which has stayed the same since the very beginning. That being said, I wouldn’t be opposed to a better dragon fight. I don’t want it to just be made harder, but I want it to be made more interesting and enjoyable, and more difficult to cheese, and give a better reward. I think you have achieved all of these things beautifully. You have just earned yourself a subscriber, and probably many more in the days to come
Perhaps you could add murals next to the end portal visually showing some of the mechanics? Or otherwise add some intro animation like the dragon sheds its tail end for a new one and ends up hitting it on accident or something. You could also add a visual indicator for where the dragon is going to slam its tail to make it a little less of a guessing game.
This is some admirable work, the dragon's heads landing where you expect them to definitely adds a lot to the experience. Coupled with the flight patterns and new animations, you can't help but wish for the same level of detail in the regular game. Also, I really wish Mojang added official mod support built into the main version of Minecraft that is known for it's modding scene. Like how Bethesda made modding their games easy with the Creation Kit, or Larian with their own application.
Data packs is literally minecrafts officially supported way to create mods. The game client might be vanilla but the game mode is using mods aka data packs.
I would love to see just the dragon as its own released datapack. Making a really cool and new type of dragon fight/ The overall datapack makes everything so hard which is a blast, but if we got the dragon by itself, it would still be a great challenge even for normal vanilla gameplay. Either way, amazing job and so glad to see all your new creations again, and can't wait for the next ones!
I love how for a meme datapack you put so much real game design thought into the drsgon fight. Also essentially implementing inverse kinematics just so its head sit on the ground properly is amazing tlattention tk detail.
this is so insanely cool. massive props to you! its really interesting to see the process behind this and i cannot wait to see how the hermits handle your maniacal genius
The dragon and end redesigns are gorgeous. It's amazing how much technical things happen behind the screen to make this datapack come to life. I like how the overall game has a rewarding learning curve. It's a well-balanced challenge.
Hey Makistein 16:00, a cool solution for the dragon instructions could be making the Book spawn 100% at stronghold's libraries, thus encouraging players to explore them for knowledge
Yikes! Really good work. I love all of the attention to detail you put into this, and all of the unique animations with the Ender Dragon. The fight itself seems so much more unique too. Should be memorable if Grian and crew can manage to get to that point. I hope you gain a lot more subscribers from this.
I think a good solution to the guide book for the Crystalspine fight would be to put it in some kind of new structure (or mob) that can be found in the stronghold (and also make it almost impossible to miss). It would reward exploration of the stronghold and could also add a little bit of lore for Crystalspine. This is an amazing project and I can't wait to play it. I've always thought that a minecraft mode that makes simple, normally mundane tasks more challenging and engaging would be really cool, and from what I've seen in Grian's video, this is really close to that.
I think the lava moster should be nerfed in some way, because otherwise it will just slowly consume entire worlds. Maybe make it so that the individual waves only spawn new magma, but no new lava. So that it still spreads, but only to a certain size.
I love watching these behind the scenes video's! I'm a "Hermits and friends" fan and found this video through them playing. There was so much thought and detail put into this, that I really respect the end product even more! I cannot wait for the Hermits and friends to explore all of the madness in this difficulty! ❤ Extremely well done!
Here's an idea: If you hurt a horse, it should actually turn around and buck you, sending you flying a short ways with knockback. This should also hurt. While taming horses, when you get bucked off, you should also get flung off the horse's back and have to chase after the horse. You could make horse taming more dangerous and exiting.
I really glad I came to this video only after the recent ones so I didn’t spoil the dragon design! Great work and watching Grian and crew has been so entertaining!
9:23 It's really interesting that despite this being just an INSANE pack, you still made sure to make it *fair* That's actually suprisingly rare nowadays and I really appreciate you putting in counter-measured for your insanity-filled creations (*^^*)
I was always thinking about how the ender dragon fight was easy in that stage of the game, and this approach of the end game fight is in my humble opinion, the way it should go, fun, challenging and exciting. Hope it makes a new experience, and sticks to old players that know everything there is to know about the game. Speed running anybody???
I had so much fun watching Grian and his friends play your mod. I kept laughing hysterically whenever they died. The killagers and the lava monster is probably my most favorite thing. You did a great job.
I had fun watching the mayhem of the first episode of Grian and co. But I'm most excited for them to start sciencing out all the tricks and work arounds and making projects. I hope they have less panic and more intentionality in their next episode because i absolutely want to see them get to this awesome boss fight. Incredible work, man. Youve made something to be really proud of and I love its getting attention through Grian's group's channels.
It's been over two years since I last watched Makistein and let me just first of all thank you Grian for reminding me of this wonderful and talented person Second of all every single one of your mods are awesome

Possible suggestions for mobs: Witch -All potion effects are amplified (Danger) -Witches are immune to negative effects thrown on themselves (Danger) -Witches can passively drink potions that grant teleportation, which is increased for every non-collisionless block around the witch’s head. Makistein, here's a really cheeky suggestion. After watching the recent Grian episode, I think you should make it so that _any_ mob that gets into a minecart triggers the lightning. I don't know how your datapack is setup, but just execute on the entity if its riding the boat and have it run the lightning function.
This is just amazing and first episode of the TH-camrs was so fun to watch, cant wait for more :) Great work, mate. Its always nice to see an austrian touch on things ^^

You are INSANE in the absolutely best way possible! I'm having a blast watching all the videos and dying laughing at the many random ways to die XD
Thank you so much! Warms my heart that you're having a great time with the series! 😊
you took the ender dragon fight and turned him into a raid boss. fantastic.
This could add an exciting and strategic dynamic to the gameplay.
that's a brilliant idea!
Reminds me when you made the Hydra around 10 years ago. Good times.
What if when you broke an end crystal, then it becomes "toxic" around a large area of it for the rest of the fight? So it us more natural
I love how for a meme datapack you put so much real game design thought into the drsgon fight. Also essentially implementing inverse kinematics just so its head sit on the ground properly is amazing tlattention tk detail.
yooo this is soo good dude, you must have put a lot of effort into this mood, keep it up
And here I am, played Minecraft for 11 years and never beaten the normal Ender Dragon once. Your coding skills are insane.
This looks so good!
this is so insanely cool. massive props to you! its really interesting to see the process behind this and i cannot wait to see how the hermits handle your maniacal genius
no way you got in contact with the hermits!
Life series, jimmy isn’t a hermit… 😂😂😂 but yeah same thing pretty much
@@It-b-BlairJimmy is just an honorary hermit at this point
@it-b-Blair Jimmy is just a non official hermit at this point
Bro he's Grian's friend
The dragon and end redesigns are gorgeous. It's amazing how much technical things happen behind the screen to make this datapack come to life. I like how the overall game has a rewarding learning curve. It's a well-balanced challenge.
Hi! Thankyou for making an awesome data pack. It's going to be a good series!
Hey Makistein 16:00, a cool solution for the dragon instructions could be making the Book spawn 100% at stronghold's libraries, thus encouraging players to explore them for knowledge
actually crazy datapack
THIS. BOSSFIGHT. SHOULD. BE. THE. ACTUALL. FIGHT.
and the difficulty level would increase everytime you summon a new dragon
We can finally see the dragon😊
Hey McMakistein i have a suggestion(for Grian's series)...everytime Grian click a button it explode him and people around. Thanks!❤
1:03 Better Than Wolves
gourmet taste
I'd still say the old Fundy impossible difficulty is WAY harder, but this is clearly more fun.
Devious!
Yikes! Really good work. I love all of the attention to detail you put into this, and all of the unique animations with the Ender Dragon. The fight itself seems so much more unique too. Should be memorable if Grian and crew can manage to get to that point. I hope you gain a lot more subscribers from this.
could you please let me know what the name song that you used in this clip 0:43 is. I have been trying to find it for a long time.
Absolutely my friend! :)
It's called 'Breaking the Safe' from Christoffer Moe Ditlevsen
@@McMakistein you are a scholar, and a gentleman thank you good sir
you got yourself a sub
I think a good solution to the guide book for the Crystalspine fight would be to put it in some kind of new structure (or mob) that can be found in the stronghold (and also make it almost impossible to miss). It would reward exploration of the stronghold and could also add a little bit of lore for Crystalspine.
This is an amazing project and I can't wait to play it. I've always thought that a minecraft mode that makes simple, normally mundane tasks more challenging and engaging would be really cool, and from what I've seen in Grian's video, this is really close to that.
yay we finally get to see the dragon fight
I think the lava moster should be nerfed in some way, because otherwise it will just slowly consume entire worlds. Maybe make it so that the individual waves only spawn new magma, but no new lava. So that it still spreads, but only to a certain size.
Who is here after psd1 video❤
Great the only, actually good Ender dragon rework that can't be used in modpacks, gotta love this
here from grian
I haven’t seen you in so many years, and this absolutely blew me away. Mojang should take notes on this honestly
It would be really interesting to see someone speedrun this version of Minecraft.
I really glad I came to this video only after the recent ones so I didn’t spoil the dragon design! Great work and watching Grian and crew has been so entertaining!
9:23 It's really interesting that despite this being just an INSANE pack, you still made sure to make it *fair*
That's actually suprisingly rare nowadays and I really appreciate you putting in counter-measured for your insanity-filled creations (*^^*)
The safety barrier around the button was definitely necessary when u think of what scar and grian are like
I was always thinking about how the ender dragon fight was easy in that stage of the game, and this approach of the end game fight is in my humble opinion, the way it should go, fun, challenging and exciting.
I feel like regular spiders should be more difficult too as they don't do nothing atm. Apart from that, really cool pack :D
It's been over two years since I last watched Makistein and let me just first of all thank you Grian for reminding me of this wonderful and talented person
Second of all every single one of your mods are awesome
Him: yapping about how cool the End Dragon fight would be
Grian and friends: struggling to survive the Overworld
That's so insanely well done! Can't believe it was done without mods. It's so cool!
Also, thank you very much for releasing this mod publicly for those who can't buy it. ❤️
Possible suggestions for mobs:
Witch
-All potion effects are amplified (Danger)
-Witches are immune to negative effects thrown on themselves (Danger)
-Witches can passively drink potions that grant teleportation, which is increased for every non-collisionless block around the witch’s head. (Anti-cheese)
-After falling three blocks, the witch will begin to drink a slow falling potion (Anti-cheese)
-Witches have slightly increased health (Danger)
-Potions have increased speed (Danger)
Enderman
-Players will teleport to an enderman after damaging it (Anti-cheese, Danger)
-Players within a short radius around the enderman cannot switch inventory slots without dropping or using their item (Danger)
-Increased teleportation rate for environmental damage (Anti-cheese)
-Increased health (Danger)
-Cannot take more than 1/6 of maximum health (Anti-cheese)
-Does not enter boats (Anti-cheese)
Piglins
-Do not barter enderpearls
-Crossbow piglins have handguns that deal increased and immediate damage to players within line of sight (Danger)
Spiders
-Spiders that can’t pathfind to the player or aggressive spiders that haven’t moved will phase through blocks or float vertically (Anti-cheese)
-Increased damage (Danger)
-Killed spiders will spawn baby spiders that avoid players and become grown spiders, but they can’t spawn baby spiders when killed (Danger)
Makistein, here's a really cheeky suggestion. After watching the recent Grian episode, I think you should make it so that _any_ mob that gets into a minecart triggers the lightning. I don't know how your datapack is setup, but just execute on the entity if its riding the boat and have it run the lightning function.
This is incredible!! It's been super fun watching Grian and them dying constantly and I can't wait to play myself
This is just amazing and first episode of the TH-camrs was so fun to watch, cant wait for more :)
Great work, mate. Its always nice to see an austrian touch on things ^^
Awesome work, and great job explaining your thought processes. Looking forward to watching Grian and the gang try to get through it all, and I'll probably try it out for myself as well.
That lightning is SICK!
I would legitimately be interested in hearing more of the 'nerd yapping' technical details you skipped over haha, my eyes burst a little bit when I saw the 5-digit line numbers @ 6:11
