    The firstt time I heard this solo it nearly brought me to tears. I’m glad I can see it on “paper” now so I can start playing it myself. You could tell Brecker (may he rest in peace) poured his heart and soul into it. This is what music is all about.

    What does it mean by 'laid back' at bar 40 ?

    • @SharpElevenMusic
      @SharpElevenMusic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hi Mohamad, that means it's played slightky behind the beat/rhtyhms that are written. So not perfect in time, but a bit lazy to create an effect

    That's played straight from the deepest, most passionate level of the soul . What a gift. I love to play along with it but no one I can think of will ever be able to reproduce it. Notes wise, yes. It's the "everything else" bit. No transcription can ever capture that. Michael, ye left us way too soon, mate.

    This is my favourite song to play on the sax but I could never figure out the solo in a lot of places, you have no idea what this means to me to find this transcription.

      Excuse me. AMAZING.👋How can I thank you for your work on editing Michael's solo? Gratitude! Michael explores all of his musicality, interpretation and all of his soul.
      It's like bringing Michael back to the earthly world. Michael passed away but his irreplaceable music is eternal. I miss him but when I'm listening to this wonderful Tenor Sound it feels like Michael is here next to us. I don't get tired of listening. Gratitude! Thank you so much. BRZ🇧🇷

    I believe that solo was recorded in Barcelona 1992, during a Brecker Brothers Band tour. I was there and remember that one as one of the best concerts I ever been.

    Your website is excellent but it has a mistake in it;
    there is no David Sanborn! (Lol you have to go high to play some of his stuff in correct pitch on tenor!)
    I am actually distraught that there is loads of his stuff around, but the one that he won his first grammy for, "All I need is you" has never been done.
    And then his most famous tune, "Straight to the heart" exists but has never been transposed to tenor, what's up with that?
    Thank you for this one, I had it but probably notated in different time, this looks much easier to read.
    There is a melody line Brecker plays at the end of the head of this one, I have it written down and I think it's almost impossible for anyone to read and play it. I can't read it and follow him.

    I see bar 57 is the most viewed. I think because it is transcribed wrong. sounds to me like high A, High B, High D, High C in that order. No F in there.

      Hi Patrick, usually the system for this channel is to keep it for those who support the channel on Patreon, where you get two transcriptions for 3$ a month, but since most of us are in lockdown, let me send this one to you. Mail us at info@edge-effect. media and I'll send you this one on pdf.

    Bars 13-15; not really sure about the chords. Been analyzing this during my lessons and I think it's more Sus - V chord with third in base and then the tonic with an augmented 5th? Like after transposing it down a whole steps: Fsus, D/F# and Eb/G (although I guess it's kinda this riff-vamp that the song is based on where they move that Eb and D in the melody). I couldn't sleep at night because I had no frickin' idea why Brecker is playing both the major and minor third of the diminished chord and then I realised that if it's a V chord then he's just playing the fifth and the altered fifth of the D. Am I thinking right?

    • @SharpElevenMusic
      @SharpElevenMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, that could be. To be honest it's quite a while ago that I made the leadsheet, but if memory serves me well, I think I got actually from an official Mike Stern book, the chords. So didn't really double check it back then, bu you could be right nonetheless. In the recent past I did some leadsheets on for example Hallelujah I Love Her So, happened to have also the official published Ray Charles songbook, but found quite some mistakes.
      But what you say sound logical to me, should check it once again, but don't know if I find the time at the moment to do so. Anyways, great that you stay sceptic towards other peoples transcription/chords! Too many people think because it's written on a sheet (certainly in well looking lay outs) that it MUST be true. I have students searching for chords of songs on Ultimate guitar tabs and website like that... and it's almost guaranteed that there are mistakes :) even with rather simple songs

    • @Marunius
      @Marunius 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SharpElevenMusic Great point :) Thank you for taking the time to answer. Who knows, perhaps the band actually had that stuff written in the lead sheet themselves but decided to embellish it accordingly? Your transcriptions are really amazing anyway and sometimes you even manage to find mistakes made by the players themselves! Like in the Hutchings transcription he accidentaly plays D-D#-F over am7, where he probably intended to play E :D Thank you so much, as usual I'm just bumping with my findings to boost the algorythm and perhaps create a discussion for people who stumble across the channel. Take care :)!

    • @SharpElevenMusic
      @SharpElevenMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, that's really Nice of you, thanks for that! And anyways, I like those kind of "discussions" about music. Would debate endlessly with anybody about Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing, if it's in minor it major.
      And in the end, it all doesnt matter if it sound good 😂, but it's fun nonetheless
