Well this is predictable. We have been tricked into thinking £5000 is good value.
Was thinking same, £5k is a huge load of money. Entry level now seems to be £3k. In the meantime old cheap bikes still work perfectly well and aren't really any slower.
@@kieron88ward I know this is a disaster and a backward move, but I now resigned to being 0.63mph slower.
My Vitus Vitesse Evo: 7.6kg, Ultegra Di2 12 speed, carbon bar and seatpost, Reynolds carbon wheels, nice tyres. Zero upgrades needed. £3,600.
that is a steal
A shame that outside the UK that bike gets some upgrade on the price. A upgrade no one wants 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice. My Trifox X16 is 7.16kg, Ultegra Di2 12 speed, Dura Ace brakes and chainrings. TPU inner tubes, 25mm GP5000 tires. Just over $4,000. You can build a good bike for (relatively) cheap.
5K is the very tippy top of what any bike should cost - really a 5K bike should be custom sized and built with a top end group. The real midrange is 2500.
Used to be, yes, not any more. £2.5k is entry level, £5k is mid field and "tippy top" is £10k+. Crazy I know and this is why all my bikes are a couple of decades old (but if you don't mind them being 'old' they are still perfectly good bikes).
Your price is plucked from thin air, probably because that’s what you personally can afford at a push. If you had less disposable income you wouldn’t be saying £5k. 🤷♂️
There is no way I’m spending nearly 5000$ on a bike that I then need to upgrade wheels and group set…
Agreed!
Facts
Got a 2022 specilized rim brake Allez. 10 speed SRAM Red and some Fulcrum racing zeros. $2,500 and its 6.9kg. Cheering.
I’ve had my Fairlight Strael for 6 weeks. It rides beautifully, heaps of fun to ride, descends and corners wonderfully well. I would say it’s the best bike I’ve ever owned just for the smile it puts on my face. Sure, it’s not fastest but the fast bike I normally ride in the summer hasn’t seen the light of day in 6 weeks.
Awesome video but there is so many more options like: Rose, Radon, Storck etc. all high end brands with at least Ultegra di2, carbon wheels & weight below 7.7 kg. I was never a fan of typical retailer bikes like Specialized, Scott, Trek, Cannondale, Orbea, Cervelo etc. Total rip off prices compared to brands I mentioned at the beginning.
Unfortunately, Rose no longer sell to the UK market. Which is a real shame as I'd happily buy another to replace my Team GF Four Disc.
These mid tier prices are going to kill cycling as barriers to entry. Ill buy the train thanks.
What about Cube bikes? There are several in the Litening and Attain line with great components in that range.
People are complaining about the prices of new bikes but when you go on a ride and you see so many top level bikes you see why the prices are rising. There are people who are complaining in the comments and there are people who are actually buying bikes. Guess who will manufacturer listen? Wallets are driving the bike industry not comments.
Do a video with bikes around 3000€ +- 500 please!
regarding the Specialized Aethos, it seems insane to me to have a 600g frame and then fit a 3kg 105 Di2 groupset on it!
find another £5k and you can fit Dura-Ace ;)
that frame is the 10r carbon close to 800gr i belive, the 105 with a better crank and casset can really cut some weight of it. But yeah its more of a pleasure bike than a performance one
that's true but at least you have a good base for upgrades in the future.
Before you ride the bike strip it of the 105 and sell it. And then you could buy Dura Ace yourself and get it fitted for much less than £5000 Specialized want, although you may be getting a higher mod frame included with the DA.
it's so much more than that. I just ordered one last week from my LBS in my pancake flat country, based on all the review comments about stiffness, amazing handling and compliance. And the looks obviously lol.
What is annoying is bike shops don't really do test rides which is flat out wrong 3000 pounds plus and you can only ride round car park it is wrong end up buying bike that was ok in car park but going up a massive hill realising it is crap
David…you always give us good videos but I think most of us would like some videos on your choices of bikes under $2500. $5000…can’t see spending that on a bike….no way.
At that price point you are primarily looking at alloy frame, alloy wheels, cable shift/hydraulic disc 105 with an "endurance" geometry. Which is perfectly suitable for the average cyclist.
The weight weenie on a budget would surely be better off buying a second hand rim braked bike with SRAM red mechanical and some nice wheels. would probably save a kg on any of the above bikes!
Love my Strael. It‘s just so good. I need a pure racer aside for performance orientated riding, bit yes, it‘s great.
Similar to Fairlight, I love my All-City Rival Cosmic Stallion. Lots of tire clearance, great steel frame, currently selling at ~$3.5k.
My son-in-law bought one. He absolutely loves it. I went with him and they let me ride one with him on a test ride. Such a nice bike to ride! I was completely impressed by it.
Im glad you still push steel. You should try to get a pegoretti responsorium or Barco Marconi to test!!
For that kind of money I would buy the Look 765 optimum. Look makes some of the best carbon frames
In going to be looking at the comp, in next few days at my local specialized shop
I can also recomment Rose Xlite 4 with Force groupset ! i have this bike 7.3 kg soo good in love with this bike
Thanks for doing some more affordable stuff.
I have a Fairlight; it’s marginally slower than my older fully carbon TCR. I did a self build but was still
Great video two of the bikes I'm considering but in lower specs. Could you do a video on your view of a selection of the best road, gravel, endurance bikes you can get for the £4k UK cyclescheme limit?
I think the Giant Defy Advanced Pro 2 is also a good option
How come there is no Merida in the list. They have quality bikes with reasonable prices.
Agreed, they are very underrated.
I think the cube LITENING AERO C:68X RACE is one of the best options, as it has the same frame as the top end bike wich wheighs 980g and only differs on the groupset, which is ultrega di2. And it even comes with a power meter!!! All that for 5257€, which is 4,475£. This AERO bike is even WAY lighter than the specialyzed Aethos comp wich is a dedicated climbing bike.
dont forget the trek emonda sl, i love mine
Hey Dave! How about a Ribble SLR rim brake with Dura Ace 12 spd. A tough package to beat and a great bike.
Looking for a bike that I can use for both road and gravel with two wheelsets. Have narrowed it down to Vitus Venon Evo and Scott Addict Gravel - which would you recommend? Vitus seems lighter, are there any differences in comfort? Also, I am between sizes on the Vitus Venon Evo - would you size up or size down?
If it ain’t recommended by David Arthur, I ain’t buying.
The Canyon is probably the best deal. However, I built up a "complete" Trifox X16 with Di2 Ultegra and Dura Ace brakes for just over $4000 and it's 7.16kg I think the market for high-end complete bikes has a lot of competition these days.
Hi David.
Love the reviews on all the bikes that you do.
Can I ask if you can do a review of the new Bianchi Sprint and the aria e road.
Yes, I know it's 7 years old and must soon be upgraded but I have never seen a good review on this bike.
Can you please do one?. Grant
Thanks
I will repeat my question re that rear tail light on a Canyon endurance bike @davidarthus?
David, I willl ask you to explain the new bike to my wife if you keep posting so many videos. It's getting harder to resist the N+1 with this much good content!
You named the only two new features of the Endurace as the two downsides... I see no point in buying the new one
Glad to see the Fairlight Strael made it to the list. I got one about a month ago based on your recommendation (followed by countless 5 star reviews). It’s not the fastest bike on earth, but nor am the fastest cyclist on earth. It’s just fun to ride and it’s robust enough that I don’t feel I need to molly cuddle it on our crap british roads.
What about ride quality? Is it as good as they say? Thanks
I've owned my Strael for 6 weeks now and I'm very impressed. It's a beautiful bike with an even better ride quality. Steel is such a lovely material. Head over heels for it.
no pinarello x series?
Where's Cannondale on this list? Has anyone checked the availability of these bikes? Most dealers have no inventory or tiny frames they try to sell you down to. I had two bike dealers try to tell me that I shouldn't use my inseam for sizing (I'm tall!) and instead I should get one of their leftover tiny bike frames so I can handle corners really low! No thanks. Is Taiwan backed up or out of parts?
You forgot to mention the Giant Revolt ...on disguise of a roadbike😉
do one for xc mountain bikes. gravel is good but just doesn't cut it unless you're a boneshaker masochist haha. missing your mountain bike content.
Why is nobody talking about the Rose XLite 4? It has a one piece cockpit and an ultegra Di2.

I’m going to get the Domane AL5 aluminum, 105 mechanical group. I don’t like charging bikes. Lmao- oh that’s 2024, comes in ugly green and black.
I almost bought an obed all-road ultegra group set. It was on sale last week for $ 2290 I fell asleep and missed it. I really did t know that much about that company anyway.
is it possible to ride these bikes and beat the pros who r on their 10k+ bikes? Even if two riders had same fitness? Thoughts?
How are you expecting to beat a „pro“ in any way, let alone on an inferior bike?
Such weird questions
Yeah, sure, you could beat a pro while riding a Propel. You just need to be in even better shape than them, and be a better bike racer.
I would of fell over laughing if you told me 5k would only get a mid-tier and will have throw away wheels and 105 😮
Who on earth would chose the athos over the other bikes on this list?
What about BMC , and Merida endurance are they not any good
It's promotional video
@@ciulabula1 how do you know that
No it's not a promotional video David, these are recommendations based on my own personal opinions . Sadly some people just choose not to believe me
@@davidarthur Anyways, keep up doing the great job David as you doing it fine.
I understand these are mostly bikes which are reviewed, if non reviewed then Standart tweikberk must replace Fairlight Secan. Standert uses much advanced engineering techniques available to steal which also enables internal cable routing unlike fairlight ugly with cables and compromising.
POLYGON HELIOS. WHAT ABOUT THAT?
I like This 😢 , but I have no money for brought ..😂😂😂😂
Pretty poor show that we can't say under £2500 but its getting harder to find
I think you forgot to end that statement with a question mark “?”
Like you always do?
Fairlight not my cup of tea it till they become integrated cables 😅
My coworker came in to work on a trek loaner bike, it was $5000 and 19.5lbs and a tank...with junk parts and heavy wheels; a carbon boat anchor. With $5000 I could buy a Dura ace group or Record, Zondas, and a Cannondale frame and have a 16-17lb race bike.
Hello 👋
Mere ko bhi saiae cycle ki parais
Madness…
“if you are on a budget” 😂
5000 gbp for a bike is ridiculous
imo it's something more than ridiculous because these bikes are budget bikes!
I'm not sure a bike with Ultegra, Force or 105 is considered budget
@@minasarn 105 was supposed the groupset of the people! Now is for some people it seams.
I don't really know where groupset of the people comes from? In the grand scheme of things it's never been a cheap groupset, it's always been a mid-range cycling enthusiast level groupset, at least imo
a bicycle for under 5000 quid ?!
Can’t see how they can make road bikes much better , 7 kg to 8 kg buys you an aero bike with disc brakes for under £5000 …. £1250 bought me a Scott addict 20 with rim brakes brand new back in 2020 weighing 8 kg , same bike now with disc brakes is £2200 …
If I want a bike with disc brakes and weighing nearly 7 kg it’s going to cost £5000 plus …
Will a bike weighing a kg less make me that much quicker ?
Dear manufacturers and Carwow please stop False Advertising. You cannot just combine ICE engine hp with Electric motor hp. Physics don’t work that way… 🤬
Imagine titling a video “Under £5000” thinking your viewers were hoping to see a bike worth £4999….
I wonder how much your target audience earns to put two dollar signs on what feels like at least three dollar signs. Yikes!
