Thanks for this! I travelled all the way from New Zealand to pick up my new Ridley Fenix 3 years ago. It is a work of art. So cool to see where it was crafted. This might be my GOAT GCN video!!
@@gcntech a lot of factories in Europe use bare frames made overseas in Taiwan, there's one that even weave their own carbon fabrics: Time. At one point I was craving for one but ended with a Look instead (cause I wanted disc brakes and their Alpe d'Huez model was only available in rim brakes at the time). Pretty sure it's going to be epic
Always a soft spot for Ridley - rode a Noah RS AND a Noah SL for almost 3.5 years, excellent bikes, gave me absolutely loads of joy and fun, plenty of speed. Great video and presentation.
It was interesting to see how labour intensive that bike production is and we didn't even see how many "people hours" it took to actually build the frame. Great video GCN and kudos to Ridley to allow this to happen.
I still have one of their 2011 X-Fire CX bikes…..I’ve repurposed it for gravel riding with a SRAM 1X drivetrain but kept the Fulcrum Racing 7 wheels because they’re fast and obnoxiously loud, slapped some Donnelly 32c tires on her for traction. Switched out the hardware to red anodized titanium bolts then attached som LOOK track pedals. I kept the Avid Shorty Ultimate canti’s because they work well. This bike absolutely refuses to die and takes whatever I throw at it. A true representation and fine testament of Ridley’s commitment to the production of a fine machine. Great video, love listening to you.
I still own and ride a 2012 RIDLEY NOAH RS. It has served me extremely well. The paint is STILL fantastic - red/white/black. I obsess with keeping it clean and waxed. I often get asked if it is new even though it is 12 years old. The fit and finish remain exemplary. The aero frame and fork designs created a very fast and slippery model. Gr8 bikes! The workmanship stands the test of time.
Very interesting walk through of the process. I was a little confused though about how the decals could be applied before the coat of purple paint? Why did the paint not cover the decals?
It's really amazing that they can produce a bike in such a short time because I put my order in February for delivery in July and I am still waiting for my bike in November. Sort your customer service out Ridley.
This video is what tipped the scale in favor of buying the Grifn! It's easy to get lost in the specs war but seeing it being made next door in Belgium was super cool :) can't wait!
Cool that Ridley gets some airtime. I happened to buy one because my trusted dealer sells them, their frame customization options are cool and I still love mine, even though it is a stock option.
It's an ad. Ridley paid GCN to showcase their bikes. Other brands simply pay GCN on an ongoing basis, which is why they appear more frequently on the channel.
@@Frostbiker Sure. It's still a rare sight for GCN to partner with one of the "lesser" brands and not just Canyon, Pinarello and the other big manufacturers. Even if it is paid, indeed.

Great vid Manon. As as ex car factory worker it's cool to see some of the production methods, and the pride people take in their work. Guessing the colour coat paint (purple) application over the decals is to have an even surface for the clear coat. I'd rather have the decal bump with the knowledge there was purple paint underneath!
I'm very envious Manon. Awesome brand and bikes. There are few brands I've not owned and I currently have a 4 year old Helium which I consider is equal to the very best and far superior to many.
The hand crafted graphics are mind boggling. That's a very cool aspect of Ridley which I had no idea. I mean, who doesn't like hand crafted high end gear of any sort.
Come to Portugal and get to know the "CARBON TEAM" factory! They are a relatively new company that makes one of the lightest frames in the world and have the entire process in the same factory (including the carbon assembly)! They are one of the biggest companies in frame production in Europe. You will not regret!
The sander does have a vacuum pipe built in...but yes there is some paint dust when hand sanding for sure....not as dangerous as carbon sanding..I guess that was done in Taiwan
Very interesting company and factory. And not that far from where I live 🤔 I‘m currently commuting on a rather old Ridley Force 6. Maybe one day, once I finished my degree, i‘ll ride it to Belgium and head home on a Grifn or Kanzo 😋
Just bought a Ridley Noah RS TT For $300 from FB Marketplace & it’s FULL carbon, I rode it for the first time & it’s the first time I rode a bike since I broke my tibia in 3 places from a motorcycle accident & I had a guy on a $12k Trek ask to buy it after I lapped him at the local park. I knew I had to figure out more about the bike . It’s has a HED 3 trispoke & a Zipp AeroDisc & it’s flat black 😊
Great video, and a beautiful ride Manon. I was scratching my head about why the purple was sprayed after the decals, but maybe that's the magic of those flip nano-particle paints? I have a Kanzo Speed 1X in the Belgium color scheme and I love it. Right now, I'm riding it a lot more than my other top level road and MTB bikes, goofing off on tarmac and dirt on the same ride.
I just ordered a new bike, unfortunately finding a proper Ridley dealer nearby was nearly impossible, for that reason I wend with another brand. Hope they will improve their dealer network in the Netherlands in the future.
Nice to see custom paint and parts assembly but It would have been great to see the actual frame layup and manufacturing process either in-house or at the contract manufacturer in Taiwan. There are some pretty big differences in manufacturing processes that are good to know when choosing a new carbon bike. What distinguishes Ridley from anybody else? -- That's the question I want answered.
Nope. That's the world you live in - if the frame was painted and assembled in "country X" then it is labelled "made [usually "assembled"] in country X". The frame is just a component of a whole. That's the basics. There is a bunch of detail around the law though.

They have dust extraction on the sander and there will be ambient dust extraction in the room. They are in the EU it's very unlikely that they don't meet the appropriate standards.
The responsibility for the safety of an employee is with the employer not the employee. He can’t ‘opt out’. By law he has to be given the correct H&S eqpt. If he chooses not to use it the company should make him. Bottom line “wear this Ppe or you leave.”
