One thing no-one talks about in Utah is the DMV.. Seriously, someone deserves some credit. I can replace a drivers license or transfer a title in under 5 minutes, and the employees are some of the nicest government employees ive encountered...

With rocky mountain power your usage is rounded to the nearest dollar on a day by day basis. So if you are clever with your usage, you can nearly double your usage without increasing your bill.
Hey Scott, I've lived in Utah for 30 years now and watching your video I still don't know the visuals you are showings. If you'd please help others also by putting a little on each shot such as, overlooking downtown Salt Lake, over looking East bench. Moab. St George, Overlooking Lake Powell in such as such. Etc. Thanks!
Ahh.. thanks for your feedback! I have stopped doing that long ago after too much feedback that it was too busy. I'll consider this for sure though, and thank you!
That's a deeper question than I could appropriately respond to her in a simple response, but I do believe that it could be good as well as not good depending on your specifics
So here’s a direct financial question: My fiancée and I make around 130k/year together and would be able to relocate to Utah and keep our salaries. In Central Florida we live paycheck to paycheck with our rent, for a decent house, being 2,200/month and Utilities at 1000/month. We’ve been considering Utah for its cost of living and everything seems to suggest we’d thrive moving. Is that realistic or would it be the same financial situation as Orlando? Note: we don’t live extravagant or anything. But a typically week of groceries for us is 600$ for 2 people, just getting necessities like meat, bread, eggs, juice, etc.
Hi Tyler! Are you in Orlando? Tampa? Houses will cost more here, utilities are far less, groceries @ $400 / week for a couple would give you high quality ingredients and several high caliber meals per week for sure and a very nice variety at the best markets. Income taxes here is 4.55% compared to 0% in Florida, property taxes here are far less and so is insurance. You can live a nice middle class lifestyle with 130k per year so long as you don't splurge on things especially housing. If you ever want to chat, hit me up!
The problem is if you wait long enough the taxes in Utah will have to rise. The cost of living for some of my friends is having them move back to LA.-Went to art gallery last night and to live here cost of living is out of this world-getting very close to CA. So when the taxes will have to rise-and they will- we will have rows and rows of houses with no front or backyards. No shopping-and mostly commuter neighborhoods.
So I've technically grown up in Utah, but over the last number of years I've started not getting out nearly as often as I should. I moved to Ogden a couple of years ago and I still don't know what Ogden or even the nearby cities have to offer. I used to enjoy the outdoors activities offered in Utah growing up, and was even a scout who managed to become an Eagle Scout... Yet because of degrading health and disability, I can't do nearly as much as I used too. At the same time though, I want to become more involved in the community, including going to events. Any resources and advice would be appreciated.
I would say to find a club that matches your interests. Obviously religious groups work for many and have lots of activities...but if that isn't your thing there are groups formed around a common interest like pool, ping pong, chess, video games, sports, hiking, electric bikes, etc. Obviously it will depend on your disability but one recently divorced friend of mine joined a coed kickball league and managed to find a girlfriend pretty quickly.
Hey Scott I’m looking to relocate my family to Utah I’m a single mother of two boys on in high school and one in diapers. My oldest is big in the Air Force JROTC program as well as sports.. I am looking to open a spa and beauty business there and I’m just trying to see if this is a good move for my business as well as being a single mom.
Oh and I don’t own a home at the moment I’m just looking to rent until I can get to a point where I can afford to buy a home. Maybe you can help me with that as well
what about people who don't look like you? Asians, African Americans in terms of culture, racism (or lack of)?? How do Mormons look at outsiders, is it open or not so much? Bringing someone who is not white on to your youtube channel may be helpful to address this question
I honestly just do not believe that the color of one's skin even matters whatsoever. I like Morgan Freeman's take... let's just stop talking about. I absolutely understand that there is racism out there and it's certainly worth addressing and talking about in those cases but it doesn't need to infiltrate every conversation. I would love to talk to anyone regardless of race on the channel
How long are the 4 seasons in UT compared to places like WY, or MT? Also... not having kids/family fitting in to communities that are so family friendly and oriented? Ive been an outsider the last 3 places I've lived due to either not being from (t)here, or not having kids... dont really want to find a 4th frankly. Also, I'm shocked at how awful the state veterans benefits are as a state for being a "red" state...
It all depends on the elevation where you live here. For the most part each season is 3 months however fall and especially spring can be very bi-polar in the sense that it'll feel like spring has sprung and then....6" of snow falls
Most states are right to work states. But I consider this a positive Unions dont have an overpowering control in the state, and just because you area right to work state does not mean that you will be let go for no reason. Though it is possible you will get sued if you try it.
I see this as a positive. Work is a private contract between an individual and employer and government shouldn't be involved unless something illegal is happening. If you don't like it you can leave. If they don't like you they can fire you. It keeps the job market efficient and with very low unemployment jobs can be found relatively quickly. Unions only make the system less efficient. The teacher's union is a freeking disaster for kids. Bad teachers just get passed around from school to school but rarely get fired. Awful.
@@TrendyStone this is assuming the power dynamic is equal. It is not. To be a qualified teacher-Math. Six years of formal education closing on over $80k and loads of job offers out there -but teachers should enjoy perks of a steady gov job-you don't get paid as much but you always have a decent paying job-long vacation times plus excellent benefits. We don't follow through on that and so we tend to get the B and C students. If you look over to your book shelf, and you see your Ayn Rand folios there, remember she died on Social Security. Unions ensure higher wages and more fair playing ground. We keep losing more teachers each year than we hire, and you can't expect that to be a good result. To be good at anything requires time, and mentorship. Where do you get your mentors in an organization that pays poorly, bad conditions, has parents that say "If you don't like it you can leave"-oh yes my friend they are doing that.-We keep teachers for about five years-mostly female teachers-and then they move on. Teachers in Utah often can be seen cueing up at target and Walmart and dollar tree to buy school supplies for the kids. You need to pay teachers a middle class wage-140k a year to allow them to be seen in the community with respect. We need more male teachers in the class rooms-not just the football coach. When people compete for a living wage-you get the best. To do that we would have to raise property taxes.
Get with the times, IHC has rebranded as Intermountain Health. Most people think it’s because they just don’t care anymore so the dropped care from their name 😂😂😂😂
Really outdoor type people? Only the upper middle class and you use to be able to drive a few miles and be alone now you have to PAY FOR PLACES TO CAMP.
Pollution in Utah is an ISSUE think of the Valley like a toilet bowl the lower in the bowl you live, the worse it is. We are currently laying off tech at a prodigious rate.
So is California this is national problem not just a Utah one. Layoffs are bound to happen in a down economy. But Utahs economy is one of the most resilient.
If you are from another state you need to probably go to Private School. Also there are waiting lists for these schools and if you were not in a Catholic School before you are going to have a hard time getting your kids in.
If we could all just have the perspective of living everywhere... we'd all realize that this is one of the best places. With respect to taxes... there are 7 states with overall tax burdens for it's residents that exceed 10% and there are 8 states that are under 7%. That means that for the rest of us in the other 35 states range between 7-10%... that's a difference of 3 percent. If 3% is distorting one's personal experience and belief as to whether or not they can "make it" where they live, then perhaps a change in mindset and perspective would help.
The rate of crime in Utah is 57.25 per 1,000 residents during a standard year. People who live in Utah generally consider the central part of the state to be the safest. Your chance of being a victim of crime in Utah may be as high as 1 in 8 in the east neighborhoods, or as low as 1 in 42 in the central part of the state.
Actually it 1 in 8 in the far west neighborhoods. The Eastern neighborhoods are nice and well kept, are they free from crime of course not but Utah in general is a very safe state to visit or live in.
1# for class size and also we suck at many sectors education. Prepare for private school for your kids-or just buy them a hat at McDonalds or you can start signing them up for military.
It is the highest in the nation at 22 students per class. We have large families here in Utah. But that doesnt mean the education is bad. Utah ranks at #12 in the nation in quality, # 16 in safety and second in SAT score. Utah must be doing something right.
How in the world can anyone group am entire group of people based on a common denominator whether it is race, religion, or anyone else and say that they are nice, or rude, or great, or terrible? That's not how life works
