I think your the only one that has played a "reaction" video to this song. One of my favorites and kind of has a special meaning. My 1st roommate (1978-1980) after graduating college. He graduated the same year but served in Vietnam. So 6 years older. We both got jobs at the same company from college interviews.
This song fits him to a tee. He was greying but more of a silver 2 tone. The girls at college called him, Marlboro Man, Ken, Plastic Head. He would turn his shoulders instead of just turning his head so he wouldn't mess up his hair. Other than working his only other interest was picking up woman. I asked him one night where he was going and he mentioned a town over a half hour away. I asked where, why? He said all the local girls had been with him or knew about him. Thus new grazing land.
He actually had a decent personality and who am I to criticize his lifestyle. I met the love of my life using one of his tips at a bar.

That is the thing about Supertramp. Of course, when they first came out, there wasn't an internet. I had to go to a library and look through index cards to locate info about them. On their Crime of the Century album, every one of the eight songs were dynamic. It isn't like Roger had to go over to one of the lessor three stooges to show them how to play his song.
A prerequisite for timeless music is great percussion. Rick was a great percussionist until he scooted over to drum on the piano. His first instrument to play as a youngster was the organ which he had to fake. Nobody ever questions how proficient Rick was playing the harmonica. He is explosive no matter what instrument he plays.

One of my all time favorite albums! I remember running out to buy it when it was released (junior year of high school) and couldn't wait to get back to the house to listen to it - Love this track, and even have a perpetually dedicated song to my wife on this album - "Downstream" - Awesome stuff! Thanks for reacting to this one !!

Thanks, David! Your comment just made me realize, I discovered Supertramp when I was 16, too! 1974…Crime Of The Century. What a great band.

Wie geil! Du entdeckst eine Band, deren drei ersten Alben zu den großartigsten der Popgeschichte gehören.

I was 19 when this came out and bought it at the record co I worked at. They played a few on fM radio then but I bought it. And when the mind wobbled as a young mans often does Lover Boy gave you some not so nice ideas in the city. And we all knew guys like that. I think there was a book, "How to pick up chicks and score w/girls" or something like that. In a way that is what the song is about. Ahem, "He used to have a problem but he got it fixed..." Yeah. Captured a piece in time.

When they throw the brakes on in order to change the tempo they crunch up the music masterfully.
