So cool to see you guys hearing all the little nuances Supertramp brings to the table. As great as their most commercially successful album Breakfast In America, is, the real Supertramp is what's to be found on the Crime Of The Century and Even In The Quietest Moments albums. Two masterpieces that rank amongst the best of the decade and beyond.

Very true statement, @lbanesed210, Attending their concerts back in the '70s and seeing how their level of musicianship along with a full stage width screen playing video that matched the story of each song created a fully immersive experience. Headphones are a must for Supertramp.

This Supertramp fan's favorite Supertramp song. Lyrically, this speaks to everyone. Who hasn't needed more " time " or felt "the whole world's above him " at some point in life? And pure fire musically.
The live version from the live album " Paris " is here on TH-cam, a different energy, plus the video shows them in concert...while they're playing, a video of a train is being shown behind them. Quite the feat in the 1970s

As Sp33gan said below, this is the "real Supertramp" They were a prog art rock group before they were a pop group. Crime Of The Century is one of the best-sounding, best-written, best-produced records you will find. We had music with DYNAMICS in the 70s! There is much written about how that has gone away and today most commercial music is flatter [loud but flatter] and has less in the way of peaks and valleys. Spend your thousands on home audio if you really love music.

Some groups just seem to have too much talent - this is a favourite amongst a whole bunch of amazing Supertramp songs. One of my favourite tracks from one of my favourite albums. Supertramp are one of those "if you know, you know" bands. Somehow not quite household names, but they should be. Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America are masterpieces, museum quality albums. Supertramp, like many of the greatest artists, are not constrained by genre, but I like the think of them, in the best way possible, as Prog Pop.

Crime of the Century is their best album IMO. Not a weak song on it. From the consistency of quality of all the songs to the quality of the production and engineering. Especially for how long ago it was recorded. It was not as popular as Breakfast in America, but I have listened to it far more over the years. This album is worthy of an entire album review. That being said, I am a fan of deep tracks and Just Another Nervous Wreck off Breakfast in America is worth a listen. To me it would have fit nicely on this album.

Much of this great album was recorded at Trident Studios and made use of their infamous Bechstein piano. This instrument has a folklore all of it's own. It was used and favoured by Queen, Elton John, Carly Simon ... the list goes on. Trident also had one of the most musical sounding desks too, put to good use by Ken Scott. I have this album on A&M "Audio Master Plus" CD which reportedly used the best quality and least used masters available.

Another Rick Davis song. His songs are characterized by unusual piano chords, he usually repeats the parts 3 times instead of 2 and he is a genius at the keyboard. He complements perfectly with Roger Hodgson, who is a global musician, he plays almost all the instruments and his songs are very commercial. In Rick's songs, Roger puts his point on the guitar.

Love the story telling. An atmospheric train ride. Good to see you guys enjoying the music I grew up with. A suggestion... Genesis Peter Gabriel 25 Jan 1974 Midnight Special, The Musical Box... different and theatrical with makeup and masks telling the story.

Please do School next followed by Hide in Your Shell. Imagine what it felt like experiencing Crime of the Century when it came out? Top 5 best produced, written and performed albums of the 70s.

They used to sing this with a racing train backdrop - Hodgson and Davies used to 'bounce off each other' vocally - it was epic entertainment for a few years, then a big bust up! At least I have those memories and my CD's - You may like to follow this up with 'Another Man's Woman' 10cc also had a great option in their live show if you need extra suggestions.

Great reaction gents!! I would HIGHLY recommend doing this entire album - this song is but a taste (and a wonderful one at that) of the brilliance contained within!! The title track, Crime Of The Century, is a personal favourite. School, Asylum, Hide In Your Shell...so many amazing pieces.
I always loved this song, but my appreciation of it went to the stratosphere after seeing/hearing it live - especially that buildup - the bass groove is so driving. Thanks for this. Cheers.

Love your musically informed reactions! You give Supertramp their rightful due! Keep it up guys. You’re doing a phenomenal job. Just please, don’t end up changing the focus of your reactions to politically oriented videos that peddle negativity and divisiveness. I’ve witnessed three solid music reaction sites dedicate their commentary to trending controversies that feed on the us vs. them mentality plaguing our country. I hear that TH-cam can make it hard for podcasters to sample music. And I can understand why abandoning music as the focus of one’s channel becomes an attractive choice. But to spotlight celebrity intrigue, much of which is based on half-truths, misinformation, conspiracy and political bias, has been disappointing to witness….With your intelligent reactions, not only do you keep great music alive, but you elevate the discourse on TH-cam and feed our better natures in the process. Right on!

I see you're wearing a T-Shirt with Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali on it. I met Ali in 1986 at his room at The Dorchester Hotel in London. Then, I went with him to the Bruno v Witherspoon fight at Wembley Stadium. Incredible guy.

Rudy is part of the concept album which tells the story of Rudy. The album is meant to be listening in it's entirety to get the best effect, although listening to individual is cool too.

So happy to se you react to this song. I think it's near the peak of the group, although they kept producing so much more stellar work over the years. This song is such a masterpiece.
