    From my point of view this video belongs to both concepts that I share and describe as “Ambient Guitar” and “Depressionism”.
    When I think about Ambient guitar music and Ambient music in general the first thing that comes to my mind is “ambiance” and “space”… I don’t think Ambient music should spin around soundscapes and textures only… No. What really matters is the feeling of “ambient”. This is also often what can be described as “slow music”.
    As for Depressionism it speaks for itself. Slow, dull, gloomy and deadly sad). This time I “painted” video in a colorful and saturated way - just to make a counterpoint for fun)))
    Some technical details: Usually when it is about a piezo-acoustic (steel or nylon) switched into Aura DI I would prefer to record three channels - clear guitar + wet left and right. It gives a wider potential for better mix later on post. Here I used “blend” knob to mix signals right on the Aura DI and recorded only wet effected signal. Just to make things simple. If you use so much delay and reverb all that you finally get is an extremely washed sound. It means that a lot of natural colors of your guitar sound will be highly modified and sound much different comparing to the clear signal. I was glad with the final signal’s character and left it as it was.
    Effects hint:
    Fishman Aura Spectrum DI - Concert #5, blend to “10 hours”
    Strymon TimeLine - reverse delay
    Strymon BigSky - cloud reverb
    Thanks for watching!

    Your song made me feel like I did watching the sunset tonight while walking my 2 huskies. Nothing but happiness and loving gratitude for that specific moment. The great thing about music and instrumental in particular is that the listener can interpret the story for themselves. Since I was born I’ve allowed society to dictate my world to me. What is sad, happy, good or bad, can do this, can’t do that. These last 6 years I’ve learned the painful lesson of how much of my life I’ve wasted trying to please those trying to mold me to their unrealistic approval. So your song is not depressionism to me. Actually its quite the opposite. Trust me when I say this or I’ll have to write a super long reply trying to explain why I feel that way. My time would be better spent using my many guitars and equipment to write as you do. cheers my new favorite ambient guitarist.😁

      Despite my intention to be independent on people opinions and take comments easy and distantly I still cannot and don't want to ignore that kind of response. I'm so much grateful to you that you wrote this! It warms my heart and gives me an approval - that I still need from time to time - that the music I make brings something important to this world. Thanks again!

      I stayed up too late last night going through some of your videos. 😂You’re truly an amazing and inspirational artist. I especially love that you use a nylon string guitar and use it’s natural sound with modern effects to create such unique sounds that seems grow larger than space and time. Now I need to watch your instructional videos and get to work creating too. 😁@@MikhailMedvedev

    Oh I love this. Really want an electro-acoustic nylon guitar myself, or at least that piezo sound. Stunning.

      Thanks! Timeline Reverse: time anout 1000ms, Repeat, Mix, Filter and Grit - all to "10 hours"
      BigSky Cloud: factory bank 14 + Tone to "9 hours"
      The main idea behind Reverse delay was - you should hear those long tailes, but they should not interfear with your playing.
      The main idea behind Cloud delay was - fill all the space) but reduce Hi Freq otherwise they are too noticable (that may vary on the instrument, Multiac Steel is a very crisp on Highs)

    Question: Is there a technique where you record both a dry track and a wet track at the same time? The reason I ask is sometimes I like to hear some reverb and delay as I play in real time but as you mentioned a good technique is to add effects in post. I just have a bit of fun with music and don't do much recording at all but I do use my DAW as a live tool for my practice sessions because I use effects from plug in VSTs.

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there are many ways to do it)... the easiest way is to split the signal BEFORE any effect - you can record then only clean or clean + effects. You will need any kind of splitters. I use Roland's VG-99 clean guitar ounput to record clean signal. There may be some problems with signal monitoring. For example I have only one knob to mix direct/playback signal. It means if I record clean + wet signals I cannot mute any separate channel to hear what I whant to hear WITHOUT any LATENCY (let's say no clear guitar signal).
      Another (The best) way is to use multichannel soundcard (smth like RME) and make routing inside of it. You can do it this way: plug preamped guitar signal into INPUT 1, then send it internally to OUTPUT 1. Plug the OUTPUT 1 signal into all your guitar boxes and plug output into DAW's INPUT 2,3 - route INPUT 2,3 to your monitors/headphones - so you will hear only effected sound, but record only clean or clear+wet. Don't forget not to send/add/mix or whatever OUTPUT 1 into monitors while you play - it will lead to feadback and can be harmful) It might sound tricky, but when you play with it you will understand how to do it...

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there' s a mistake at the end of my long speach)... not to send OUTPUT 1 into INPUT 1 again - switch off CHANNEL1 monitoring, 'coz it will make a feedback loop

    • @TheWindGinProject
      @TheWindGinProject 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So nice of you to respond in detail. Thanks! I think I will experiment with recording the same live instrument on 2 separate tracks using the same Input 1 and turn down the output mixer volume or maybe mute the output on the dry track. Would that work or would that also turn down the record volume. I think I just asked a dumb question. Sorry :-) One other thought is to select the record monitoring button to OFF for the dry track. That might work.

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's not a dumb question - I'm more than 10 years in professional sound recording and sometimes I still stay and stare at all those inputs/sends/monitoring/outputs and guessing if this is the right way or not now - much depends on the equipment - when you know it - you don't ask questions, because you got used to it and simply remember thw workflow)

    Amazing sound! The ambiance is surreal! Would you mind telling me your signal path? Did you put the strymon pedals into aura's fx loop or into the output. Did you mic the amp or did you plug into an audio interface? Thank you in advance.

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Diogo! My signal path is pretty straightforward here. I didn't use fx loop - the signal goes from the aura's output. No amp, right into audio interface (Lexicon Omega). Used aura's Blend nobe to mix it with original guitar sound.

    • @dipsilva1
      @dipsilva1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mikhail Medvedev Is the aura's output going into the timeline's input?

    • @MikhailMedvedev

      Yes, the chain was Godin Guitar - Fishman Aura output - TimeLine - BigSky - Lexicon Omega - Cubase 5

    Mikhail could you please share your Timeline and BigSky setups used in this and other tracks. In the description it says 'reverse delay' and 'cloud reverb' but the detailed description would be much more helpful. Thanks a lot!

    • @MikhailMedvedev
      @MikhailMedvedev  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sorry man, but seems like I can only guess - it was a pretty long time ago and I always tweak presets for the particular "song"... but here the core effect is 'reverse delay' indeed. I'd say the settings were like: 1800-2000 ms TIME; smear-off; hipass-off; tapediv-...(you can chose what you need together with Time setting - the main idea is to have a rather long delay time); repeats - 0 or very low otherwise there gonna be a mess; mix - close to 48/52 (~ three o'clock); filter - 10-11 o'clock; grit - just a bit;speed - slow, 9 o'clock maybe; deapth - deep, 15 o'clock... As for the reverb - just tweak it like that (it's a regular case in ambient music) long time , but few wet sound (9 o'clock mix) - it gives you a long tale, but small amount of reverb in mix let a lot of dry guitar signal so that you can clearly hear it
