I have seen a lot of people do chess content badly. Usually with wacky "extreme" editing and not even showing the whole board and distracting sounds and bad commentary, trying to trick you into thinking what you're watching is exciting even though you don't understand it fully. This is different, I can see the chess happening, the edits are tasteful, even the background music selection is great, and I usually hate music distracting from the game. Let the chess itself be the content we come to see. Somehow you are actually adding something to the chess content. As a heavy skeptic of editing the footage at all, if someone is going to do it, I feel you're doing it right. I'm a tough critic. This is a rare thumbs up from me. You should see the sea of "radical way cool" chess content creators I have in my list of channels not to recommend to me anymore, it's a graveyard.
I think of Levy as the Gohan of chess. He has incredible potential, and with the right mindset he can win almost anybody, but he has these mental blocks that he needs to overcome to show his full potential.
Thank you, this is a very nice video! Great Background music, not too loud, also you show the full game which I really apreciate, as well as Gothams commentary 😊
To be able beat a supergrandmaster many times is a very good achievement. It's okay to say that he is had a very high chance like 90-100% to becoming a GM.
Correction: it's safe to say he WOULD HAVE a near-guaranteed chance of becoming a GM *if* he went all-in on that. But he isn't going all in on that, and nor - and this is the critical part - does he want to. Road to GM exists because Levy wants to have some fun with his Chess TH-cam beyond the standard stuff, and the prospect of having a long-term objective keeps you hooked in. Of course, if he does manage to become a GM later down the line, he will gladly take it and then look back in realization in regards to what he just achieved, but this isn't the POINT of RtGM. His job is that of a content creator, not a chess player, and RtGM too exists as means of content creating, in a way that keeps him entertained and warmed up for more. RtGM is more about the series than about becoming a GM. Levy has all the skills needed to become a GM, but this is not his priority, nor will it ever be. He has a different career outright, and it's dumb to argue on whether or not he can become a GM when that's not the true goal to begin with.
I love that you're clearly a Levy supporter on this channel. I'm lukewarm on him in general, I have mixed opinions about his content and I think he's a bit of a dick sometimes (overall good for the game though) ... But I see no reason to discourage anyone's dreams and goals! I'm all for assuming the best of people's potential. He's a decent dude with a harmless goal, there's no reason why we shouldn't all be wishing him success. I don't get why so many people trash talk his GM goals, what a weird thing to spend energy on. I think most people who are invested in discouraging others are just insecure about themselves and their own ambitions/abilities.
