A few months he developed a sequence that will guarantee forcing the king into position without stalemating, but it took him until recently to pull it off in a game because most players resign.

BUT after Kg8 it isn't check with Bxc5 and then Nxc2 would actually be mate, despite being down a queen. But it feels like throwing in Qf7 check Kxh8 and NOW take on c5 seems to win - white now has f1 to go to (where the queen was before) after Nxc2 and keeps attacking.. maybe there's an ever better way to win, but it seems enough. Still have to be careful though.

Start walking with your king (mandatory if multiple pieces are giving your king the red glowies). 2. Capture the piece that's giving the king the red glow or 3. Intercept the red glowies by blocking it with one of your other pieces. Nxc2 does neither of those so its what we call a "Illegal move". I hope this explanation makes sense to you!!
No, the rooks can just double again and the king can't escape. For Example: Qb1+, Rxb1 bxc6, bxc6 Kb8, Rba1 and if the King doesn't move to b8 Ra8 is mate.
