The board reset mate has been around for a while even if it's rather unknown. You have to force the king to be stuck on 2 specific squares and then Qa4 is mate. A few months he developed a sequence that will guarantee forcing the king into position without stalemating, but it took him until recently to pull it off in a game because most players resign.
he has been practising it for years there are videos. not that it makes it less impressive. there are videos and that was not 100 percent impromptu. He had to have the opportunity and luck apart from the disgusting level of insane skill.
@@henczzz2035 I'd agree that it is lost after a quick look.. it's check with the queen on f1, and Nf3 now isn't double check, so white could take it. So the king has to move, where it get's a bit tricky. Only Ke7 and Kg8 are legal, and after Ke7 white takes on c5 with check and then on d4 and it's way too much material. BUT after Kg8 it isn't check with Bxc5 and then Nxc2 would actually be mate, despite being down a queen. nah, I analyzed it, my general line was correct but it wouldn't save, I forgot that the king wouldn't be right next to the rook so white wouldn't need to double up
In the wow check for Magnus, can't get save the game by checking with the queen? If he takes with rook, it disconnects double up so you can take his queen, when pawn takes play king b8 to cover the rook coming down the file. If doesn't take queen and instead they block with bishop or move king, then take the rook on A2 to disconnect white queen and rook, when they take, take their queen, and same thing with pawn takes and king b8, no?

In that instance it was Black with the attack, and a bishop on g2 rather than the pawn on b7, but the same motif - Anand played Qf3!! with the point that capturing the queen would allow him to put a pawn on f3 to cut off the king's escape squares, after which mate from the doubled rooks on the h-file would have been unstoppable.
