- Incredibly, I found this JDM 1980's Pocket-Rocket in a supermarket car park where it looked to have been sitting for many, many years. There have been many generations of Alto Works, but this is of the 1tst generation, and its grade of RS-S sat third behind the two sportier specs of RS-R and RS-X. Despite its age, these cars, though rare, remain popular among kei-car enthusiasts both in Japan and around the world. Power output of this 547cc Twin Cam, three cylinder was at the limit for Kei Car specifications; 64 PS (metric horsepower).

The 550cc Alto Works is reason for the 64hp limit actually. It was rated at 63hp and they decided to limit keicars power to one extra HP over the Alto Works because they thought it had to be limited seeing how "crazy" power those modern engines could get :)
And if I recall correctly, it revs up to 10200rpm. Been a while since I drove one though.

Hey Daniel, talking about serendipity! also living in kyushu! I just came across about your channel and found it quite entertaining, guess we have the same interests and nostalgia! Anyhow, a long time ago one of my co-workers owned one and had the pleasure of riding it a few times, quite a little rocket for the size! I just googled mapped the location and the car was not there in 2019, so apparently someone left it there after the pandemic started.

Has Japan really got such a good culture that a rare car like that can just sit there for years on end and nobody comes along and pulls it up on to a low loader and just takes it???????? In Ireland that car would be lucky to sit in the same spot overnight...

@@nelsona779 yeah I genuinely want to know if this car has just got a very lucky escape from thieves or is this really a thing in Japan that cars can just sit in a spot and never be stolen? Or can someone from Japan confirm that yes cars do get stolen all the time and this is just pure luck or a very good part of town with extremely low crime? Crazy seeing this from my part of the world where opportunistic theft is rife

Look at that! That is truly amazing! I would love to own one of these myself! My brother's first car used to be an Alto CA71 and I drove it once. The 700cc engine only had an output of 40hp, but it was more than adequate for such a small car. Imagine how much 64hp would feel like!
About this particular car: I see it also has the incredibly rare umbrella option! I thought at first it was only something that featured on the Pulsar GTiR, but apparently not! 😂
Yeah, my 'under powered' kei's performance is zippy enough. Doesn't weigh anything. Lol. The umbrella option ;-)

I prefer the one with the round fog lamps but I'd get this any day! This just reminded me of a Z10 soarer parked on the building complex in front of my uncle's house in shizuoka, i even took a picture of it with me next to it. Old 2 digit plate and a big shaken sticker so you can tell it's been sitting since the late 90s at least. Unfortunately the car is gone and they probably junked it already, such a shame :(

Dan, that engine was the first to get up to 64 hp and the reason it was regulated by law that all keis hp limit would be 64 from now on!

Thanks. I'm not sure. There actually was a slightly later Alto Works parked at the other end of the car park about a year or two ago. Kinda makes me think I'll be seeing more in the future. I hope so

cool :). love this generation of altos, even have a grille from one on the wall in my garage hahaha. i would guess the plate is from a different car, slapped on front so it looks like its registered, seen that countless of times here haha

Looks like it could even get back on the road, even in that condition, no major rot up top! If it were mine I'd clean the gas tank, freshen up brakes, engine seals, wheel bearings/seals, cooling system and just drive that sucker, it looks neat as it is... (sometimes I like wasabi). Nice!

Lol. Engine capacity aside, I don't see this being too far removed from other cars or bikes. Brakes are brakes, drivetrains are drivetrains, and all held together with screws, nuts and bolts.

I'd love to know myself. There was another, but newer, Alto Works parked at the other end in a rough state, and for a long period of time, up to a year or so ago. My guess is same person

Weird theres more rust on 1 side than the other....
I think the side that faces the South, and therefore gets all the sun, is the rusty side
Also you should keep posting regular videos even if they are more as edited... The way TH-cam algorithm works people who publish more video get pushed a lot more and if you stop for a while, you get screwed and don't reach as much people when you start uploading again.
