Nice to see Choujin X getting some love. The art is fantastic and I think Ishida’s done an amazing job at making the cast slowly grow into layered 3 dimensional people
I mean…compared to Tokyo ghoul, it’s pretty mid. I think the arc choujin is on rn could mess things up in a good way, as the kaneki’s kidnapping, but if it won’t happen it’s pretty mid
@@terrigo3987 characters are flat compared to Tokyo ghoul’s, every moment where there is a chance to make the story deep is, imo, ruined. Everything is resolved within some episodes, there is no psychological nor particular side of the story. For example, the raise thing could have given a lot more introspective details about the character, or the argument between Tokyo and his friend I don’t remember the name of, too flat. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this is a bad manga, but it has the potential to be Tokyo ghoul and chainsaw man level and it’s not using it. Only thing that could save it is something really bad or messed up happens when they go kill zora that twist the plot a lil bit
Also how Tokyo got used to his powers…too flat, it was resolved in a few episodes…in Tokyo ghoul it took pretty much the whole story xD. Not that I wanna make a comparison, but I think it really is too upbeat for a manga where people have monster’s powers, that can raise till they go nuts and where there is an upcoming war. But it’s personal preference after all
@@popipopi3126 I DEFINITELY disagree with the characters being flat lol. I think that Ishida's done a really good job at showing us different sides to all of the characters and fleshing them out. Like, off the top of my head, Chandra is sorta introduced as this "goofy midboss" type of character. We later find out that he's deeply loyal to Zora, which adds a bit more to his character. But then we find out that Chandra genuinely has no purpose or sense of self beyond serving Zora. And when he's deprived of this role after the timeskip, we start to see Chandra grow and move past it. I feel like there's a lot of thought and care being put into the characters, Tokio, Ely, and Azuma in particular.
Thank you for putting me on to Sensou Kyoushitsu. Haven’t binged read a series that captivated me this much since binging Choujin x a couple months back. Shame it doesn’t have an official English release yet, it has much potential with its superb storytelling.

Finally someone talks about Bugle call, if it ever hits mainstream I'm positive it's going to be up there with black clover and other fantasy greats. It hits all the right notes in terms of superpower action, character design and great creativity which makes things popular. The fight against the mirror ramus is one of the most creative and awesome fights I've ever read in a manga and I still reread it every now and then. And the way the author utilizes the mirror ramus's and the others powers in general is just on a level of creativity I don't see often in media. It deserves to be recognized.
@@farancochelico2498Yeah but this one is definitely not a good comparison. Bugle Call is more focused on strategy, trauma-induced characters and creative use of superpowers with fair drawbacks. Black Clover is more like your average battle shounen, with willpower, weird training regimen, quirky and funny characters with flashy magic. To be honest, I think bugle call is just plain better if you want something more than a turn-your-brain-off funny shounen manga. I would put it on the same level as something like Vinland Saga or AoT rather than Black Clover
@@markusfran9485 I only compared the two because Black Clover was the first conventional fantasy shonen manga that came to mind (conventional as in magic, elves, kingdoms, etc.), not anything to do with the quality. I only mean that if Bugle Call were to hit mainstream it would be up there with other giants of that genre of shonen, and Black Clover just seemed to fit the bill. Everything you said about Bugle Call like strategy and trauma-induced characters could be applied to Black Clover too if you think about it, it's just not as well executed.

Bugle's Call / Sensou Kyoushitsu is an actual masterpiece of dark fantasy. Amazing storytelling, art and characters. Heavily recommended. I think it's my favorite ongoing manga next to Heavenly Delusion.
These are great, so I'll add one of my favourites that deserve more love - Groundless by Kagemachi Keita. It's a fun story about a militia in a civil war on a small island with about early-mid 20th century tech and the best representation of how small infantry squads work, with great visuals. The only part that is not cool is that is has been in translation limbo for about a year.
I started the witch and the beast SO long ago and I LOVE IT!! ive been keeping up with it for the last couple years and im so sad the author is on hiatus
Gokurakugai, Chojin X and Dear Anemone are definitely some of the best around at the moment! I’d also add Astro Baby to that list, it’s so good, highly recommend!

I read 'The Bugle Call' from this video and I think it's so good for only 16 chapters, I really hope it grows in popularity since I heard it's not doing well
Loving gokurakugai so far beautiful artwork love the style so much, read about 30 chapters of choujin and it was super fun but also had a slight disturbance which was super interesting, dear anemone’s artwork is insane and almost scary at times it’s so disturbing but the plot seems to be going in a very interesting direction.
Sadly, Dear Anemone was cancelled. It's pretty sad because it was a very interesting story so far, with a peculiar uniqueness in it and it's art. The final chapter wasn't that good, but that has a reason. Since it was cancelled suddendly, the author was forced to pack too many things in the final chapter, in orden to, at least, give it a proper ending. A VERY open ending, feeling like the cliffhanger at the end of a season in a series. It feels like there is an even more grandious adventure ahead, but it likely will never come 😞.
Bro if bugle call gets cancelled im blaming me incoming depresion you for recomending it. Shits too good it deserves a bigger audience. Actually good medieval fantasy manga is such fresh air.

@@iampotsataja Agreed. Also I love the manga but it would probably benefit quite a bit from an anime adaptation considering well you know Rakugo. Highly recommend reading LotL it's great and yeah it just finished. I think the last volume 13 is supposed to release in August. It's a shame they didn't give the English release the holographic covers the Japanese ones got. The anime is worth checking out too. Heard of Colorless but haven't read it yet. Always had my eye on LotL from a distance and with it ending I might have to get that as well (and a new bookshelf while I'm at it, running out of room again). Also, have you read Tomahawk Angel? Heard only good stuff, but not much talk about it, only 2 vol out atm.
in my opinion, i feel like a lot more people should know about sensou kyoushitsu. it honestly surprised me to find out it was barely getting any attention
Nice editing dude, consider me subscribed. My go to for underrated is probably Akane-Banashi (not even something I'd go for usually, but the writing, pacing and art is so good). I might pick up Gokurakugai and The Witch and the Beast tho.
@randomvideoboy1 yeah, I read the first 2.5 chapters to see if I should buy the volumes. But boy was it extremely average, stereotypical shonen. Yes, the art was nice and as you said except the fight scenes (apparently those get fleshed out in the tankobans?). That statue shooting kinda pissed me off, they just said in the previous chapter that the bullets are made of Almas blood and Tao wastes them like that?? Wtf? Will be getting Witch and the Beast tho. Read the first 2 chapters and watched the equivalent 1 ep of the anime. Manga was great, the art style amazing. Anime couldn't live up to the art style and for whatever reason the pacing was too fast? So picking up the manga, skipping the anime maybe completely.
Sensou Kyoushitsu (The Bugle Call), this is the best and I'm not exaggerating. Story is extraordinaire, in term of uniquness is the same level to Attack on Titan or Berserk. The first 2 chapters start real damn slow but once you get pass it, it's one of the most well-written story and world building I have seen in a long time.
I've been reading gokurakugai since the original oneshot was released. I kind of miss the original premise from the oneshot tbh. It focuses more on the troubleshooters business than the calamities. calamities don't even make an appearance in it. It reminded me of Ayashimon the way it blended organized crime and fantasy creatures. But that resemblance probably has something to do with the change in direction the serialized version took See as Ayashimon got canceled after 25 chapters. That being said, I still really what it is and it keeps getting more interesting with each chapter!
It’s not in this video, but gachiakuta is also an amazing manga. It has it all to be considered peak shonen, amazing worldbuilding and storytelling, goated character design, and has a great pacing. I really recommend giving it a try, because it’s amazingly good and has a very original story
I am deeply sad by people not ever EVER mentioning the best ongoing manga right now. Now i know its not very underrated, but its so very underappreciated that it feels like nobody has heard of it. The manga Real by Takehiko Inoue is FAR AND AWAY the best ongoing manga right now, and its genuinely not close. Yet it doesnt even get the recognition it deserves :(
hi, dude i mean to ask how did you make circling images thing with manga posters at 0:11? was that done in after effects? does it have a specific name? i really wish to make something like this in fitness niche for my video, i cant search for tutorial as i dont even know what its called
It’s after effects, and you make the images 3d, obviously put a camera and there’s a option to where you can make the images track the camera and rotate the camera
For anyone wanting to read Witch and the Beast, the manga has been on hiatus for nearly 2 years because the author has been sick. At this point it's not looking like it'll get picked up again, but who knows.
Rip Dear Anemone. Can you make a video about Skeleton Double? I cant believe they axed that manga too. It was so much better than most of the other manga coming out at that time. I like how you used music from Persona for the outro as well lmfao

@@iampotsataja Agreed. Also I love the manga but it would probably benefit quite a bit from an anime adaptation considering well you know Rakugo. "Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju" is a really good manga and anime about Rakugo that you should definitely check out if you haven't already.
Highly recommend reading LotL it's great and yeah it just finished. I think the last volume 13 is supposed to release in August. It's a shame they didn't give the English release the holographic covers the Japanese ones got. The anime is worth checking out too.
Heard of Colorless but haven't read it yet. But I've heard of it being compared to Dorohedoro so I'll probably check it out soon.
@@yes-gs2rd will check that out. Dorohedoro is also on my list, but already have alot of stuff on my bookshelf that I haven't finished/started yet. Also stuff I've ordered/bought that I want to reread on paperback (looks at the 7 deluxe berserks on my shelf, trying not to think of the 7 on the way...).
YES! FINALLY SOMEONE ACKNOWLEDGES GOKURAKUGAI!
Witch and The Beast world building and plot are amazing. One of my top among Frieren and the Apothecary Diaries.
Thank you for the recommendations. Gotta save it for later
That being said, I still really what it is and it keeps getting more interesting with each chapter!
another underrated one I’m loving so far is Gachiakuta
Man dear anemone really didn’t live up to our expectations
The Witch and the Beast is so cool, its sad that the anime didnt get a lot of attention, likely not getting a season 2
The manga art is gorgeous
Another hidden gem is Centuria. It‘s a manga playing also in the medieval times with mysterious powers.
It’s not in this video, but gachiakuta is also an amazing manga. It has it all to be considered peak shonen, amazing worldbuilding and storytelling, goated character design, and has a great pacing. I really recommend giving it a try, because it’s amazingly good and has a very original story
Great video edit. I'll give them a read.
Also, have you read KaguraBachi? It's one of the best ongoing Shounens. Imo. I think you'll love it.
3:38 - wait a second, Hellsing TV soundtrack? My respect, man.
My latest obsession has been dai dark by the author of dorohedero, it’s so dark and yet so funny and the art is ridiculously cool too
I can't wait for Chojin X to be animated bro it's fire
very cool editing
Centuria is also up there
I am deeply sad by people not ever EVER mentioning the best ongoing manga right now. Now i know its not very underrated, but its so very underappreciated that it feels like nobody has heard of it. The manga Real by Takehiko Inoue is FAR AND AWAY the best ongoing manga right now, and its genuinely not close. Yet it doesnt even get the recognition it deserves :(
I’m really worried that Dear Anemon will get axed since it’s been at the bottom of the rankings even though it’s peak
Gokurakugai with the black lagoon theme is top notch
there's no way the bottom panel at 6:42 isn't a RGU reference (so naturally I gotta read it)
Goated for using persona 2 ost🔥
The bugle call is peak fantasy ❤
Your video is so good! Cheering for you to get more subscribers
sensou kyoshitsu is so good i just found it and i‘m caught up already
You deserve all the subs
Nihei Tsutomu's (author of Blame! & Knights of Cydonia) "Tower Dungeon" is also pretty good.
hi, dude i mean to ask how did you make circling images thing with manga posters at 0:11? was that done in after effects? does it have a specific name? i really wish to make something like this in fitness niche for my video, i cant search for tutorial as i dont even know what its called
I like how you used music from Persona for the outro as well lmfao
witch and the beast is insanely good but its been in hiatus for a while
I would wait a bit to get into The Witch and the Beast since the manga is on a big hiatus rn
Good video, you should expand your videos beyond shounen!
amazing recommendations as always
Glad you liked the video
Gokurakugai is going places, quote me
Another gem worth mentioning is Gatchiakuta
would love to see something like this but for finished mangas so i can binge read
