I too am fairly certain that the games you mentioned are indeed the ones that won't work. But even in those scenarios; there isn't anything anything that should stop us from simply using the Switch 1 Joycons with the Switch 2 via bluetooth connectivity. The only one that REALLY won't work is Labo VR; which is due to the screen size being tailored SPECIFICALLY for the OG v1 Switch.
It would be very nice if Switch 2 was compatible with switch 1 joycons. Those things are expensive. Obviously it would be awkward charging them without an original switch, but maybe they can sell more "joycon charger" accessories.

maybe the IR camera will be part of something you could attach to the new joy con, hopefully also allowing it to face forward and not only backwards for nso wii and smg1
I'm kinda wondering if the Switch 2 will have Amiibo support, too. Never used amiibo myself, and I have no idea if they're still popular enough it will be worth it for the Switch 2 to support it, but I get the impression that they're used in a lot fewer games than on the Wii U.
I'm going to add that probably video based "software" isn't going to work either, mostly because of licensing and contracts. We're talking your TH-cam, Hulu, Crunchy Roll, etc. We'll have to see if those companies (and Netflix) want their software on the new system, but I'm almost positive the Switch version will fail to load at all.
I'm sure there will be 3rd party accessories for it if it does boot, but the ring in RingFit used the sliding method to attach to the joycon, so switch 2 joycons won't work.
I expected minimally used features like the IR camera was going to be a kiss a death. Did anything besides 1-2-switch use the precision rumble? Full VR games are in the same boat, but optional VR support can easily be disabled with an update (especially since most are Nintendo headliners). Full on hardware issues like Ring Fit are probably doomed, but I would be surprised if they don't give us a Ring Fit 2. A bigger leap would be a "new play control" edition of the first game.
For the Labo VR isn't that just a matter of making a new set of cardboard housing? Because that would be a cheap upgrade to make and sell to previous owners. I'm not saying they are going to do it. But they most definitely could. And they could do it for the Switch OLED as well even though they haven't.
Have I heard everything I need to hear about this theme? Yes. Am I sick for the 5th day in row and find comfort in listening to familiar voices? Well yeah, that exactly why I clicked this video, thank you
Don't think IR camera won't be a problem since Nintendo will likely allow us to use old joycons on the Switch 2. I think it's mainly Labo where it won't work because it requires the console itself, and the Switch 2 is bigger than the Switch, so....um.
I've seen someone suggest compatibility issues could be because the switch 2 will force enhancements on the games and it could mess up some mechanics. For example in paper mario ttyd, the base timing for a superguard is 2 frames, but if the switch 2 makes that game run at 60 fps instead of 30, now superguards are twice as tight.
Games that needed HD rumble might not work because we don’t know if the new Joycons support or have HD rumble it might have something different probably haptic feedback maybe?
I don't think they'll do it of course because it would be absurd but yet there would be something incredibly Nintendo about disabling the whole of Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros Ultimate on Switch 2 because the VR mode isn't compatible. And hey, I notice they chose Super Mario Bros. Wonder as the game to demonstrate backwards compatibility, not any of the 4 behemoths I just mentioned. And hey, with rumours of a BotW remake coming, it would give them a nice excuse to sell it to you again!
Splatoon 2-because we're shutting it down too. there's still 3 and 4 will be out in 16 months. MK Deluxe-what's the problem?! 8 stays on the OG, 9's on your phone, leaving 10 and 2. riot lines start over here, don't forget your torch and pitchforks.
Labo and those requiring the IR and Fit-track unless they have updated accessories for it. I would love if they are IR feature but since that isn't a actual real hardware but computer generated - if they showed the real console that would be a huge giveaway...
i really hope they can make RingFit compatible somehow, maybe allow original joy-con connection via BT? I’d happily buy a sequel, but if each game needs a different ring-con that would be really annoying
Maybe you can't play the infra red with the switch joycons but I believe you could connect the switch 1 joycons to the new switch and then infra red is available.
guaranteed that Labo, Ring Fit Adventure, WarioWare move it, 1-2 switch, game builder garage, brain age, night vision and maybe Mario Kart Live Circuit won't work on Switch 2 at all
I’m assuming you can pair old joycons to the switch 2 like you can with the switch lite. So why couldn’t you just do that to play Wario Ware and Brain Age etc..?
That doesn’t make any sense because even with the new joycons don’t have IR camera, you probably can still pair old joycons with the Switch 2 to play the old games. The Switch Lite doesn’t have IR camera either, and it can run all of these games because you can pair the joycons with it
We need to remember that a leaker said switch 1 joy-cons will work with switch 2. Maybe games with IR requirement will need necessary switch 1 joy-cons paired, forcing people to buy them separately. Idk... Just speculating.
I see no reason you couldn't use switch 1 joycons on the switch 2 so the games would probably check for which joycon you're using and if you're using the new ones, it would just skip the parts you can't do
@ElectriKong- they released a joycon charging dock recently which would only make sense if they were planning to release a console that you can use but not charge joycons on. Nintendo is greedy but not that greedy
GAME BUILDER GARAGE MENTION IN THE BIG 2025!! CAN'T I BELIEVE MY EYES??? Either way I find that game pretty funny for Switch 2 discussion since yes the fact it uses IR means it could be shelved easily, but the fact the game has USB mouse support already means that it could be used to highlight the new Joycon mouse tech!
They will work but just say, we need joycon 1 like mario party says you need them for motion games. So you can play them on switch 2 if you have a joycon 1
The fact that Nintendo has sold us NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis controllers for NSO leads me to believe that Switch 1 joycons and accessories will be compatible with Switch 2. And if that's true hopefully that's true for things like 8BitDo's Arcade Stick and controllers for Switch as well.
I feel like they're just saying "not supported" because you need switch 1 Joy cons for certain things.

Backwards compatible consoles usually have a small list of games that won't work. Nobody notices, like those 10 or so PS4 games you can't play on PS5.
I'm sure there will be 3rd party accessories for it if it does boot, but the ring in RingFit used the sliding method to attach to the joycon, so switch 2 joycons won't work.
I will prompt you to pair an old joycon. They might come out with ring fit 2.
Unacceptable... boycotting Switch 2 until they get Everybody 1-2 Switch fully compatible
Wow a whole video on this.
Shouldn't it be WHICH games won't work?
This is like when Alex says "myriad of" rather than "A myriad of"
I don't think they'll do it of course because it would be absurd but yet there would be something incredibly Nintendo about disabling the whole of Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros Ultimate on Switch 2 because the VR mode isn't compatible. And hey, I notice they chose Super Mario Bros. Wonder as the game to demonstrate backwards compatibility, not any of the 4 behemoths I just mentioned.
And hey, with rumours of a BotW remake coming, it would give them a nice excuse to sell it to you again!
Thank you for letting me there's a VR spice and wolf game
I'm like 80% sure the original joy-con will still linked to the new switch it just won't connect physically
Turn VR in to standard mode games
Splatoon 2-because we're shutting it down too. there's still 3 and 4 will be out in 16 months.
MK Deluxe-what's the problem?! 8 stays on the OG, 9's on your phone, leaving 10 and 2.
riot lines start over here, don't forget your torch and pitchforks.
Labo and those requiring the IR and Fit-track unless they have updated accessories for it. I would love if they are IR feature but since that isn't a actual real hardware but computer generated - if they showed the real console that would be a huge giveaway...
We all must wait till april till Nintendo switch company tells us what is the real Nintendo switch 2 with its games lets wait 🫶
Will it be easy to download digital old switch games to the switch 2?
i really hope they can make RingFit compatible somehow, maybe allow original joy-con connection via BT? I’d happily buy a sequel, but if each game needs a different ring-con that would be really annoying
Maybe you can't play the infra red with the switch joycons but I believe you could connect the switch 1 joycons to the new switch and then infra red is available.
Mario odyssey, Smash Ultimate and Breath of the wild I hope Nintendo puts in a patch to disable their VR modes
guaranteed that Labo, Ring Fit Adventure, WarioWare move it, 1-2 switch, game builder garage, brain age, night vision and maybe Mario Kart Live Circuit won't work on Switch 2 at all
I’m assuming you can pair old joycons to the switch 2 like you can with the switch lite. So why couldn’t you just do that to play Wario Ware and Brain Age etc..?
For me, it's the indie games and some games made at Limited Run Games not working for Nintendo Switch 2.
That's my biggest concerns.
not gonna lie, spicy wolf is a pretty good alternative title for spice & wolf
What about the IR control for Trombone Champ?! 😮
That doesn’t make any sense because even with the new joycons don’t have IR camera, you probably can still pair old joycons with the Switch 2 to play the old games. The Switch Lite doesn’t have IR camera either, and it can run all of these games because you can pair the joycons with it
Surely the original JoyCon will be compatible via bluetooth for something like RingFit and then just generally? There’s no difference other than size
We need to remember that a leaker said switch 1 joy-cons will work with switch 2.
Maybe games with IR requirement will need necessary switch 1 joy-cons paired, forcing people to buy them separately.
Idk... Just speculating.
I hope they have a switch 1 mode. I will miss all the jaggiez and low framerates :(
A retro mode. The entire screen will appear in pixels.
Knowing Nintendo we will get a Ring Fit Adventure Deluxe with a new magnetic ring con
We all know dang well its going to have custom themes and start with a dark theme.
I see no reason you couldn't use switch 1 joycons on the switch 2 so the games would probably check for which joycon you're using and if you're using the new ones, it would just skip the parts you can't do
There is a reason they might not make switch 1 controllers compatible: They want you to buy the Switch 2 controllers.
@ElectriKong- they released a joycon charging dock recently which would only make sense if they were planning to release a console that you can use but not charge joycons on. Nintendo is greedy but not that greedy
@mememan5466 No mememan, we want your money. Simply, we want your money. Thank you.
What if Switch 2 already comes with VR lenses and a plastic adapter.
They will work but just say, we need joycon 1 like mario party says you need them for motion games. So you can play them on switch 2 if you have a joycon 1
2:15 that's just a cutout that goes along the side
The fact that Nintendo has sold us NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis controllers for NSO leads me to believe that Switch 1 joycons and accessories will be compatible with Switch 2.
And if that's true hopefully that's true for things like 8BitDo's Arcade Stick and controllers for Switch as well.
I’d guess it would have more to do with licensing agreements
I hope jump rope challenge makes it 😂
All signs point to the Switch 2 being compatible with Switch 1 Joy-Cons via Bluetooth
I wonder if the switch joycons can be used with the switch 2 wireless...?
Stuffs like labo or Ring fit might not work.
I don't think it's that big of a deal.
the labo labo ring.
