My old Intense M9 DH bike has a ton of adjustable parts, it was designed as a 26er, but was so adjustable that I refreshed it to 27.5 and now could go to a mullet. Bikes that are designed like this are amazingly versatile. Mix in suspension parts with platform valves and forks that can do multi-travel lengths on the fly are great for areas with long climbs and descents.
Old alpine trail is still a very good bike! Slack, fast 💨 and short back end. Still best value heavy hitter trail but fast fun and modern. Lots of old bikes unsold and used ones for very cheap atm
great video josh, very interesting hearing all of the details from your time with the bike. Really like what Marin is doing lately and what they're all about. keep 'em coming!
What puzzle me is that after speaking with my favorite shop owner he was adamant that 99% of customers who had bikes even with only one flip chip won't ever dare or care to try switching it 😅
He’s probably right! Maybe we could compare it to how 99% of people you buy a new pickup truck will never use its off road features, but it’s still there for the enthusiasts who want to maximize their experience! Check out 16:10 for my thoughts on geo adjustment
Loving the 2023 this season 😍😍😍 funnn bike… ive got a set of wheels /tires for long mellower trail days and a bombproof set of enduro wheels for race days and park / hardcore days. Love to see how that new one rides, even beefier! Dammmm…. Ive got this and the middlechild , zOoOOOoMm greatbikes.
@@99spokes I did two 25+ mile days back to back with 34mm enduro wheels and dual double down/ maxx grip tires... I ordered trail wheels the next day 😂 because it really is a pig on gravel- but it is very comfortable honestly, just wish i could fit a 210 and have it slammed... my biggest issue is the bend in the seat tube
Can't go wrong with the Middlechild. We have them as our hardtails and just met a trials rider who has one. Stoked to get them out for shredding this fall and winter when most of the bike parks are closed.
I'd love to see a review in full 29er mode with good wheels and why not an air shock to know how the Marin could be better at a proper enduro purpose, better pedalling bike...??
It’s definitely not a light bike! But like we talk about in the video, I think in the area where the new Alpine Trail is designed to excel, weight shouldn’t be a super high priority
I never noticed did! But like I mentioned in the video, with the extra spacer in there I wouldn't be surprised if headset tension would have to be monitored and adjusted a bit more frequently
Although it is not crazy high, I think they are asking too much price wise. Marin was always a cheap(er) brand and it seems they are climbing the price slowly. This was one of their unique selling points: much (good) stuff for relatively low prices. It feels it has changed now... Imo for 5400 USD there are other brands that deliver similar or better specs even and are more known brands, thus, keeping their value more when trying to sell it again.
Yeah, this is definitely targeting a higher paying audience than their usual bikes. But it also has significantly higher quality components and a much more feature-rich frame, so I'd say it's still a value for what you're getting. The Alpine Trail 1 which has the same frame with lower tier parts is "just" $3,299, and I'm sure they'll be selling a ton of those! 99spokes.com/bikes/marin/2024/alpine-trail-1

Thanks man! They’ve definitely been on a roll lately, lots of cool bikes! Glad you enjoyed this one 🤙
I just found your page...THANK YOU I am moving from a san Quentin the Alpine is in the top 3 bikes I am considering
Nice!! The SQ and an Alpine Trail would be a pretty awesome two bike quiver if you live in an area with aggressive terrain!!

I use the flip chip in my top fuel. I still can't tell if I'm actually noticing a difference or if it's the placebo effect.
I flip my chip on my yt Jeffsy winter and river trail xc rides in high and park enduro and dh rides low. 5mins to change.
Exited about this one.
The 2022 XR and 2023 XR guided me to a national champ Enduro titles.
This bike makes me extra exited about the 2025 season. 🥳
Heck yeah!! Good luck!
You had the 2023 XR? 😮 How was the full coil feeling? I'm eyeing that one specifically coz it comes with Bomber CR and Z1!
Seems like my next bike, after swapping the SRAM breaks for shimanos.
New Alpine trail 1 has very good TRP breaks with the thicker rotors ❤
fingers crossed AUS site will start selling frameset soon ! now shredding on the previous gen of alpine trail and couldnt be happier !
Great editing Josh! Keep the videos coming!! Hope to see you and Wendy soon!!
Dido!! Let’s make it happen soon!
Looks like a Transition, an adjustable one.

Nice! Two wheelsets is a great way to diversify a bike! Also stoked to hear from a fellow Middlechild fan, love that bike!

Is there a weld crack at 1:27 ?
Where? There's a shadow under the rocker link that may be what you're seeing.

used to have the last gen Marin Alpine Trail XR but felt it was just too heavy. Only rode it a few months then switched back to Marin Rift Zone 2

Do marin have xc bikes?
They do! The Team Marin is a great, value priced XC hardtail!
do you have a creaking sound coming from a headset while doing stoppie or something similar ?
I never noticed did! But like I mentioned in the video, with the extra spacer in there I wouldn't be surprised if headset tension would have to be monitored and adjusted a bit more frequently
Lol my 22’ stump jumper EVO said ‘‘your late to party bud!.. HOLD MY BEER🍺 ’’
Haha yeah, that bike definitely paved the way for a lot of really cool features!
Do you have link for frame kit only, size Large
You can buy it directly from Marin if you don’t have a local dealer! www.marinbikes.com/bikes/2024-alpine-trail-xr-axs-frame-kit

You guys hiring software engineers? Will work for mtb 😅
Haha I wish!
Stumpjumper Evo
downside...not UDH compatible
Nope, it is! They actually sell a model with a GX t-type drivetrain 👌 www.marinbikes.com/bikes/2024-alpine-trail-xr-axs
Yeh its nice but i ain't giving 4000£
That's not much for the bang you get.
The alpine trail 1 is $3300, even cheaper on some deal days.
Uh...Marin build a Transition :/
but a 12 way adjustable one 😉
