While the stunt work (especially from Cruise) is rightly praised, I think what really makes these action scenes so satisfying is Christopher McQuarrie's direction. No reliance on confusing shaky camerawork or fast cutting to generate excitement - just superb framing, editing and continuity. He really _shows_ you the action, and you always know exactly what's going on. It's masterful.

I don't blame them for not firing straight away, there's a possibility that Cruise's character could have seen three people with guns and surrendered. When he didn't they then opened fire.
The thing that bothers me a lot in this sequence is the sound direction, they fucked it up big time, you have a 2 cyl Boxer sounding like an inline 4 except for 4:18 where you can hear the real sound of the bike, I really like the chase, but it feels off because of the sound, you also can hear shifting gears when cruise is not shifting anything, it doesn't match what you see, maybe it would go unnoticed for people that are not into motorcycles, but it's like watching an old diesel truck that sounds like an F1 , it's not right
