im not sure why everyone thinks that. if you have ever fought in a long sleeve shirt youll know what he was doing. he was moving the cuffs away from the wrists. You stretch out the arm to be longer and when u pull it back in it moves the fabric up the arm a bit. It has to be a tight shirt or sweater or something but u can try it urself. pull the sleeves all the way to your wrists then stretch your arm out in a jerking motion just like the scene and bcuz the fabric doesnt stretch it will instead move up ur forearm.
This is probably my favorite Mission Impossible fight scene. The only issue is, I don’t think anyone would be getting back up from Henry’s hit with the laptop. I’m pretty sure that dude would be in a coma or dead if he hit him that hard in the head with a blunt object.
1. Its plastic, so it is flexible. 2. It bent, so it absorved energy 3. The man was durable, he got thrown around by 2 of the greatest fighters on the planet for a minute straight without dying. 4. Ethan endured plenty more throughout his movies, and considering the guy could defeat ethan AND walker, he probably got more endurance than them. 5. They are in the world of mission impossible, not our world. In that world, people heal in a day, people can fight injured as much effective as without injury, people can survive explosions, high falls, fast objects, run overs, have great reflexes, great resilience, expertise in martial arts, so much that inpractical or unrealistic moves work, they have great timing, run faster and longer than any marathonist, are extremely lucky, have higher endurance to pain and injury... surely surviving blunt force trauma is not the most surreal of all of these.
People disagreeing with you have no idea how easy it is to get serious brain injuries. It doesn’t matter how tough you are; your brain is fragile and it is very easy for it to bounce around the inside of your skull. No amount of previous experience or training can prevent trauma once force is applied.
Either the bad guy has the strongest back ever + Tom cruise being a street level strength mutant or that building has THE worse structural support in history
It could just be some light studs, ficem boards, then some cheap tiles. It can sorta happen maybe. But if it was wood frame, it wouldnt break like that even with the cheapest board material
If you pause at 1:42 you can see when Tom puts his knee on the floor, he's on a soft foam floor that's why they throw each other around so realistically. This mistake wasn't caught till after the release.

For Tom Cruise to still be doing his own stunts and these fight scenes at 55 odd is remarkable, not an easy thing to do. The guy has been killin it in Hollywood for 3 decades plus, his body of work is crazy and is easily one of the top movie stars of all time
You know why this scene is so great? It is actually they are hitting each others for real like the old 90s Hong king movies. Other movies fighter scenes are actually cutting angles and so much camera shakes to create actions because the actors can’t fight

I love how all four combatants are showing such distinct character traits via their fighting styles. Even if you haven't seen the movie or aren't familiar with the franchise, you can recognize who these people are by their role in the fight. We have a spy with a very technical and precise fighting style, a trained killer with expertise in traditional eastern martial arts, a machismo American boxer, and a femme fatale who gets straight to the point by headshotting the villain.
There was this tiny asian guy that worked in my Town , and i would see him around the clubs and pubs , but no one ever hassled him , he was under 5'0. anyway one guy from out of town thought he'd come to our town and be a big man , and picked a fight with the smallest guy out that night , unfortunatly it was our Tiny Asian auto electrician .......... it didnt go well for the Leb from Sydney he got lit up like a chrismas tree. Bruce lee had fast hands, well so did this little Asian guy. Never seen a fight over so quickly. It was like maybe 3 seconds before the guy hit the ground asleep. Then i understood why i was told: "dont mess with that guy" "what the tiny aisan dude" "lol yeah the tiny asian dude"
My guess is to heighten the visceral impact & pace of the scene so that we then tune into Netflix and watch the full movie. Sells it more conventionally.
The funniest part about rewatching this scene after finishing the movie is when you realize the villain almost got completely obliterated by a severely underpaid decoy.

this was such a fun movie. we all went in thinking, "well, what else are we gonna do tonight so let's go check out this and see what all the hub bub was about with superman's moustache..." and we absolutely loved it. last movie i actually saw twice in the theaters
