  • The UN Security Council has adopted a resolution endorsing a Gaza cease-fire plan. The proposal, sponsored by US President Joe Biden, outlines a plan to end the war in Gaza that Israel launched in response to Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7 last year. It also states that Israel has accepted the ceasefire proposal.
    The three-phase plan would begin with a hostage-prisoner exchange and a short-term cease-fire. The second phase would include a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and a "permanent end to hostilities. The final phase would see the start of a massive internationally-backed reconstruction plan for Gaza, while the remains of slain hostages would also be returned.
    In a statement, Hamas welcomed the adoption of US-drafted resolution and said it was ready to cooperate with mediators in implementing the plan's principles, "which are in line with the demands of our people and the resistance."

      The US just used the UNSC to get support for a proposal that Israel and the US authored together. The "good cop, bad cop" act is just theater. The point of this proposal is to get Hamas to release hostages in the first phase, and then have the deal break down when Israel demands Hamas' surrender as a condition for the second phase. Netanyahu is basically saying out loud that this is what he intends to do, and nothing in the agreement seems to prohibit it.

      @canitbethat หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@mbarakbakari8796 Now that the text of the US/Israel proposal has been published, Hamas’ non-acceptance is easier to understand. Israel and the US propose a temporary ceasefire with a hostage/prisoner exchange, along with negotiation for a permanent ceasefire. However, they say nothing about what conditions each side might set in that negotiation. Since Israel and Hamas are each absolutely committed to the total defeat of the other, it seems unlikely that they'll really come to terms. So the plan seems designed to break down after failed “negotiation,” with Hamas just holding fewer hostages. Israel will then be free to resume combat and crush them without ever having violated the agreement. This is presumably why Hamas hasn’t accepted it.

    Israel comments at the end of the resolution didnt sound like they accept at all. I recommend people go and watch the whole session themselves. US and UK saying one thing and the rest of the countries something different. Cant take the US seriously on Israel.

      The time has long gone that isolationism works. Did Trumps wall prevent the coronavirus coming into the US? Nope. Individual nations security clearly depends on global security. Thats why Trumps threat to leave NATO is a security threat to America.

    "Israel will not engage in meaningless and endless negotiations which can be exploited by Hamas as a means to stall for time."
    -Israel's representative to the UN, Reut Shapir Ben-Naftaly, speaks at a United Nations Security Council meeting focused on ending the conflict on Monday, June 10.
    The senior diplomat said the war would not end until all hostages were returned and Hamas' capabilities were 'dismantled,'
    accusing the Palestinian militant group of using "endless negotiations… as a means to stall for time."

    If the deal is accepted for stage 1 the Israeli public will support it. It's going to give momentum to peace. Phase 2 will need to involve some move towards Palestinian statehood and will be more contentious. If phase 2 falls apart then more terrorist attacks are inevitable and the whole thing will fall apart. Without a government that can eject some couple 100k's of settlers from the West Bank, there will be no long lasting peace...
