Sry i haven't been around Matt. I miss watching yours and the others vids. Unfortunately my fiance got diagnosed with cancer a month or so ago. Out of nowhere symptoms came hard and fast. I hope and pray you and the family are doing well. Thanks for the content it really helps
Great tip. Heat guns are super useful. I use mine to light my BBQ. I buy regular old fashioned charcoal with no accelerant and in 5 minutes i have a fire. In 10 minutes it's ready to cook, with no gas or paper or fighting. I never thought about heating baits with my heat gun. But I saw some guys heating and repairing torn baits with a lighter by heating and re sticking them. Maybe a heat gun would do that job too.
The thing about boiling them is you can do a bunch at once. Also repack with with some worm oil in the bag that is what some manufacturers use and it helps them from sticking to each other causing kinks.
Great tip Matt!! I opened a bag of flukes this morning and two of them were deformed. I remembered this video and used a hair dryer since I don't have a heat gun and...Presto!!!... Straight flukes!!! Thanks man!!!
Great tip Matt.. Have you ever tried a pot of boiling water? We used use this for deformed Blowgun cones. 15 seconds in boiling water and then into a bowl of ice water to set the cone. I bet it would work for soft plastics. Just would have to experiment with the time.
🍺Thanks for the easy tip to reform your bent soft baits. My MLF BPT picks ended day 2 in 1st Wall, 4th Avena, 6th Neil, and 7th Lucas. All made the cut.👍
I saw a video that said you should never take plastics out of the package. I realize there are some you should probably not and then you have to be careful not to mix (eleztek) plastics. Would love to hear about when you can and can't put plastics in the plastic tackle case.
Fantastic results!!! I always go thru the Zoom pks on the rack and pick the Straightest ones I can find and pick out the longest tail ones and bent ones out and put them in separate pks, the long tails I use for tournaments and deal with the bent ones later by leaving in the sun
I seen that video also and commented on how I straighten my soft plastics however now I have a better way thanks to your tip much faster I'll give that a try from now on
Thanks Matt! Just got a pack of swimbaits that are all jacked up and that I was hoping to fix, and was wondering if I could use my heat gun for it. Dont feel like boiling them!
@@MattStefanFishing Will do. Just found your channel recently, have to say thanks for all you do! Its always good to pick up new tips on different things. Thats one of the many reasons I love fishing, theres always new stuff to learn!
Yea we have taken the zoom trick worm and melt them down and poor in the fluke mole with a lil bit of medium size pearl flack or large size silver and or gold flake. I will say it’s a banger in the grass
Probably doesn’t work as well as a heat gun but I’ve had some luck laying them on a cookie sheet out in the sun. It works in the summer, not sure about the winter though.
A dirty desk or workbench means your doing things! A clean bench or desk usually means someone's not working on or completing anything, no matter how big, small or important it is. A heat gun is a great idea I always just used hot water from microwave then placed my baits in after to soak & go back to shape
Great advice Matt! Thanks for sharing! Would it be possible to have a video on how you select certain types of jig trailers and do you use Spike-It. Messy desk is a WIP, work in progress and the beer mug! Yep your from Wisconsin. Cheers to you. Best wishes.
🍺B.A.S.S. Opens are extremely difficult 216 anglers. My picks 13th Milliken, 29th Thompkins, 32nd Kimura, and 40th Bobby Lane Jr. They have a chance to move up tomorrow. Hackney, New, Palaniuk, Kennedy, Lester, Cook, and Ish Monroe (all elites) have work to do. Miles currently 79th.
Nice tip. Do you have a solution for swimbaits that are not packed in a clam shell? If you put them back into the bag they are just going to get deformed again.
@@MattStefanFishing - Thank you for replying, but I meant after you fix them. If I fix them and put them back into their bag they will get deformed again. My only option is to put them into a Plano box which causes tackle bag issues with the extra room it will require. I fish most of the time from the bank.
Interesting. I wonder if that would work with Zman plastic. I use the boil method for regular plastic but it only half way works on Zman. I can tell you NEVER try to boil Gulp though. It will melt.
Matt, 1/2 of my finesse TRD's have a curve right out of the ZMan package. Will this work on those? Will I burn my hand trying to straighten a 2 3/4" bait with a heat gun? Can Elaztech baits, specifically the Finesse TRD's be straightened? Thanks!
@@MattStefanFishing yeah, it's a great tip! Some folks boil them too long and then don't lay them out straight to dry. One tip that I would add is to allow them 48 hours of dry time, laid straight on a paper towel. Then sprinkle table salt on them. It will keep them from binding together, help them dry and remove the tackiness from the baits.
I have a small microwave that I use for making soft plastics. I lay it on the glass plate and do 30 seconds at a time and that usually does the trick. I need to make sure I keep an eye on it though. Otherwise I'm pulling melted goop off that plate and it stinks!

Good tip! Straightened a Super Fluke out on the water the other day with the cigar jet lighter😊
awesome!
Great trick, I have heard of the hot water, but good to know a hair dryer could work in a pinch. Great tip!
yep!

Hey Matt ! Do you find Merthiolate soft jerkbait as good as Chartreuse soft jerkbait for smallmouth?
i like it better for largemouth
@@MattStefanFishing Thx for the reply!
How to straighten elaztech?
Good question
Nice one
You got a video on how to use a soft jerk bait

yep!
Great tip but what I really want to know is how your Wednesday night fishing with your boys went?

Like to use the sun! Put it in a clear Plano case in direct sun.
Depends where you at
