This was the exact thing I started doing about 3 months ago. I found that it felt more natural and a little assist to get closer to my body for a more powerful pocket. But now my form has changed a bit so my disc isn’t as vertical at reach back, but I’m getting more snap while taking bits and pieces of this plus other things. The usual taking bits of pieces of what works and putting them all together. Great video. Keep it up! 💪

Thanks for the vid Anthony. Lately, I have been conscious of my form during league rounds (the only time I get to throw). Decided to change a few things up halfway through (slow down x step, brace, reach back, etc.). Was +8 on the first 12 (with a quad bogey, ouch), then went -8 on the next 11 holes. This gives me some more thought fuel going forward.

In my earlier years, I was able to generate the whip crack sound. But only with lower speed, hyzer flip shots using roadrunners, sidewinders, valkyries, and beat eagles. I attributed it to be primarily from using narrow rimmed discs and from wrist action while maintaining shorter arm travel that's closer to my midsection. When Simon Lizotte brought his
Jugs radar gun to the IDGC,
I was disappointed with my speed. But today, at age 56, I still can occasionally hit 400'. And perhaps 450' with a nice tailwind or driving from an elevated tee box.
I can't imagine how someone can get the whip crack with wider rimmed discs, especially while performing a turnover with those wider grip models.

The timing on this video is perfect. I’ve been throwing my TechDisc and getting frustrated that my brother can get 150 to 200 RPMs more than me with relative ease (I feel like I’m expending much more energy and getting less spin). A couple of days ago, my buddy mentioned, turning the disc vertical at the start of the reach back. I tried that and instantly increased my RPMs by approximately 200 (with ease). Definitely going to spend more time in front of the net practicing this(and of course some of the tips you shared in this video)!

You're figuring it out so well. I am also in an obsessive form journey and I've learned most of the power comes from the lower body and upper body is mainly to dial in flight of disc as long as you get a decent power pocket that it. I know friends that have pretty bad upper body but great lower and easily throw 450. I'm like 70% there but max out around 450. Keep going, love these videos, so relatable.

Objectively the briefcase / extra wrist curl whatever you want to call it, whether right or wrong for more snap, 100% puts more stress on your elbow because you literally are going to have to rotate your arm through the highest speed part of the throw to get it to flat nose down. If your arm and elbow can handle that great, but that's a perfect way to give yourself tennis elbow if it can't. If you need a better understanding of why, just hold your forearm straight out in front of you and rotate it back and forth while your other hand holds onto your elbow and feel the tendons stretch. Look up an image about tennis elbow injuries if you aren't really feeling it and put your fingers right in those spots with one hand as you rotate the other. Minimally I would recommend using an elbow compression sleeve if you're intent on practicing this, and build into full power throws very slowly, cause you literally can go out and hurt yourself in one outing practicing this. I sure did, and that was a fun 3-4 months of doing tennis elbow PT. Be careful folks.

  • @OkieTradez

i think snap is your fingers coming together and hitting each other mixed with the disc scraping at same time for noise but i believe Eagle talks about snap more like the extension of the wrist vs a noise from fingers.

Not related to your video, but I'd love to see a video put out comparing OG type discs with more modern ones. With all the hyped-up marketing and gimmicks in the disc golf world, I found myself going back to the DX and KC Pro Roc for my midrange and am loving it. Do these old discs stand the test of time, or are they outdated and obsolete to newer discs on the market? I also notice that you have been focusing a lot on form lately and I'm liking the new emphasis on form and skill. It sometimes seemed like you were on a never-ending quest for the perfect discs when I feel like disc selection is so minor in comparison to becoming a better player. Keep up the great work Anthony, can't wait to see you competing more this year hopefully.

something i want to try but ive injured my forearm is if you look at Calvin how he grabs the disc is over the top vs most ppl from the side.. i noticed when i grab it over the top my thumbs part of the palm was the main pressure point which i know is the strongest part of the hand.. with the new grip as i coil i notice my arm goes up just like Calvins and when i uncoil i now feel a spring of the hand which i never do when i grip the disc from the side! could be a game changer honestly bcuz i feel the hit point is clearly at 10 now and the wrist is so much stronger yeah..

I can get a snap when I throw putter for 150 ft. I do think that my throws with a snap (not a loud one) are often cleaner than without it. Depends on the grip.

A lower body question: Your left leg seems to gain some sweeping/swooping momentum around your plant foot. Specifically, your left knee passes "outside" where the right foot is planted rather than "above" it in a straight line forwards. I see people doing different things here. Have you explored the trailing leg movement to specifically shape your form this way, or is it something that just varies between individuals?

Simon Lizotte had snap, before the injuries. After Simon's second injury, his snap was gone but he had used a different power form, and it is same one Eagle had to use after first injury before he was injured again. Before this Simon had a snap on every max distance throw but during his second injury it was gone.

Don't forget that there are many other factors in distance. Wind, elevation, humidity, nose angle, disc (speed, turn, fade etc.), hyzer/anhyzer angle and many other things.
Lot of people with less arm speed throws quite a lot farther than I do.
With a wrong nose angle person who throws faster and has more spin can throw shorter than person who has less speed and spin.

I never thought your brain would calm down and clean out the noise, but it has. I'm genuinely happy for you, bro. You sound more together than I've ever heard you before; your analytic voice is rock steady, concise and on point. Learning is one of the all time most valuable skills to learn.
Thank you for this tip on "keeping chest over throw" as I imagine it might be exactly what I need to stop my infernal "anhyzer hitch in my swing" that's come up since trying to keep the disc "out away from my chest" during reach-back. "Anhyzer is farther out away than hyzer" is what I'm gonna guess my brain-body calculates. Let's try the briefcase and see what's in it?

My take on why people want the snap is that it’s something so specific to yourself that you must be doing something right when you’re throwing the disc.

Try practicing in your spare time by holding anything, doesn't have to be a disc. Just keep a firm grip (no need for a death grip), and focus on keeping your wrist loose and shake it around so you can feel that difference between the two areas.

“Snap” isn’t the fingers snapping together, it’s the fingers hitting the palm. It’s the same thing as packing a dip can basically. It only happens with certain people because of hand genetics or grip of the disc. Has nothing to do with more speed or spin on a disc
