Very helpful video! I've been getting deeper in the nodelocking 6m NL lab to help build "better" strategies and it's amazing how altering the strategy response can change your strategy I really liked the way you broke it down to how/why to adjust the range response

I’ve found regs to overuse the large size as a bluff size and not for value enough. It also highlights how draws play more passively and how cr is more often sets and 2prs than flush draws. This really helps for handplay

I really love your content. May I have some questions please? 1. Interesting 23:30 turn all middle pairs and worse sdv hands into a bluff because after get called on the turn. These hands do not beat any V's value hands. Let them call the flop, turn and fold on the river. I like it but, Should I try this at home? 2. 19:45 top pairs+ bet a lot often on the turn. Normally, I like to check back on completed flush cards on the turn. and turn these hands into bluff catchers on the river. But, against players who do not xr with drawing hands like Asxo, SD, and combo draws enough. Should I blindly bet small on the turn with any sdv?
1) this is one of the issues with not "locking" every node. right now, the villain plays very poorly when we bet, but plays perfectly on rivers when we x back turn. its this exact reason why it took us over a year ot build all of our "defaults" for hungry horse bootcamps. if we locked villains to overbluff rivers for a small size with their missed draws, and use a bigger size with TPGK+ (which happens live), a lot of our sdv would prefer to x back turn and bluff catch river. 2) the more passive the opponent, generally the more we should be betting as we just never get xr off our equity. but theres a bit of problem with this as i explained in #1 above. if opponents play worse when we x back, we should find some x backs with sdv/thin value. if you want to think about it really simply - just funnel your opponents to the line where they are going to make the most mistakes vs the exact hand you have! hopefully this all makes sense.

Great stuff, Marc. Question about "the defaults" you alluded to building out for your bootcamp. Do you mean that for some selection of specific flops, you manually went through each turn and river code and nodelocked them all based on your knowledge of live player patterns? If not, do you mind explaining in more detail what you meant?
ok so for say, srp ip we went thru and locked 25+ different board textures (flops/turns/rivers) to come up with “defaults” for how to play every flop/turn against live player population. we then did this for srp oop, 3bp ip, 3bp oop, and on and on etc.

I think assuming they never fold fd for 200% pot on turn is a little too extreme, no? I'd probably say the low stakes population folds around 20-30% of the time there to that sizing.
How cool would it be if the solver let you edit the player vs this tedious node lock process. More or less aggressive, more or less passive, more or less sticky, etc (vs equilibrium). The solver applies that adjustment and boom, you've got a shortcut.
With this film you dispelled the career dreams of all those who thought that without experience they would win because the solver would calculate everything for them.

Personally I understand the idea of the solver and I'm not saying it's not a good tool in general. The problem with this node locking is you had two possible decision points on the flop but you only locked one node. If your opponents are playing poorly against a bet, they are probably playing poorly against a check too. They may under bluff turn, fold too much against delayed c bets, not check raise turn enough etc. The solver adjusted to range betting because you forced opponent to have leaks against a bet while still playing perfectly against a check.
of course, i mentioned this in the video - you need to lock every node to give you the most accurate response, and this is something we did for all of our defaults. this video is not about calibration, but about learning “how” behind node locking. not enough time to lock every flop / turn / river for one hand.
@@hungryhorsepoker Fair enough, I must have missed that. Good video. I'm curious what you think about the difficulty in getting an accurate response as it relates to live small stakes. In the example shown here I think locking the flop against a bet is intuitive but it can be hard to have enough info against the other nodes to know that the node locked strategy is better than equilibrium. I think it was Will Tipton in one of his HUNL books that warned against the dangers of drastic exploits due to uncertainty in your reads and I feel like node locking without precise information could lead to that.

IMO this methodology is flawed. You node lock a mistake in the game tree, so of course the solver is going to adjust its strategy to reach the mistake node more frequently, since the solver is still playing the rest of the tree perfectly. However, you neglect to consider the types of mistakes population might make in the part of the tree when you don't cbet. Those might be more exploitable than the mistakes that they make in the cbet portion of the tree, and therefore you could be taking a lower EV line by cbetting.
of course, i mentioned this in the video - you need to lock every node to give you the most accurate response, and this is something we did for all of our defaults. this video is not about calibration, but about learning “how” behind node locking. not enough time to lock every flop / turn / river for one hand.

Should of given the solver more sizing options on the turn, too se if it still prefers to go 2x pot
not the point of this exercise. this was to teach the "how." now that you have all the tools, you can run it with as many sizing options as you need!
