      yes it is a daimond glass cutter head, in fact those two slits are meant to insert glass there when cutting short pieces to have better leverage

    Possibly the ring is to commerate a tour of duty by a soldier in the Middle East, or the 1st World War. Baghdad was captured in 1917 and the Armistice was made with the Ottoman Empire in 1918. Just guesses. Dates fit nicely in.

    Maybe there's a connection too WW1? At 11th March 1917, the British army captured Baghdad from the Ottoman Empire. In 1918 the war ended in Europe as well as in the Middle East. There you have the Numbers 11, 17 and 18; but I do agree that it doesn't make much sense. Maybe a 11th british battalion of some kind, that was garrisoned in Baghdad from 1917 to 1918? Still doesn't explain the existence of a second ring. Maybe it is connected to a later event at which veterans from that area decided to create some remembrence rings. Two identical rings on two different fields can be explained with one farmer owning both of the fields; if they are lost at the same place, the farmer may have put them on the fields with the manure. Much more space to do research for you! :-)
    (sorry, english isn't my first language)

    • @Addictedtobleeps
      @Addictedtobleeps  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hi, Aku!
      Yes, after some investigation, you are spot on. The first numbers aren't actually a '11', but '19' which has scratched away a bit.
      Others have done some research on this for me and have come to the same conclusion. Thanks for looking into it!
      Just a little further info: The fields I'm detecting in are in a place called Elham in Kent. Stationed here were many Canadian troops in WW1, as there used to be a railway there, that would take you right to the coast. I've found loads of Canadian buttons etc in the field.
      I think it's probably a Canadian soldiers ring, who served in Baghdad. This also explains the other ring in a near by field.
      Your English is great by the way :)

    • @kevinkyburz
      @kevinkyburz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Addictedtobleeps Great that you were able to solve the puzzle! It might be worth a try to find out more about the engraving. The ring itself looks standardized and was probably engraved by a goldsmith who ordered a larger number of them to do the finish. Was it done at Mesopotamia
      ? The design looks european, but more 1940/50ish to me than World War I. But besides that, I can't imagine that the average soldier had the money to buy a gold ring right after the war. If it was done later, you might be able to find a local goldsmith. If it was done at the mid of the century, an assistant of the goldsmith might still be alive and able to tell more. On the other hand ... no hallmarks, right? Doesn't sound european. But in the 1950s, Baghdad was a modern city of western style ... maybe they made a trip back, bought the rings there and also visited Elham in Kent again atferwards? Once again, a really, really cool find!
      (My buddy and I found a wedding ring on one of our fields at sunday. Having the size of a female ring, the engraved initials H. B. and the date of May 1966, we needed like two minutes to research that it belonged to the farmers wife. She lost it in 1970 and was totally over the moon, but I would have preferred something historically significant, just as your ring is. There's so much more to find out for you!).

    What a find , beautiful , definitely a veterans Gold ring and with considerable age too , i'd hazard a guess at WW1 perhaps the mesopotamia campaign Baghdad 1917. Could account for the 17-18 date. 1917-1918. A beautiful thing indeed , well done , you deserve it buddy.

    Lol Kris, I was shouting at the screen on that ring lol... I found something a bit similar but mine had Egyptian type markings... a huge man's "gold" ring stamped up 18k. It turned out to a just a gold plated ring that the tourists get tricked into buying when on holiday. Still a chunky beast though. Cheers mate.

    Really good to see you back Kris, so pleased you're well enough to do some detecting. That second object reminds me of an old brake fluid reservoir off a Tractor. In regard to the ring, bear in mind that it might be foreign gold, therefore it wouldn't be "Hall marked". Most foreign gold is 14ct 18ct and 22ct, all the best to you as always.

    A little late comment reference the ring,
    My father-in-law was in the gulf war in the 90s and bought gold while he was there, he told me their gold was pure by law, no carats...I'll bet the 17-18 was the years a soldier's tour of duty in 2017-2018. My thinking anyway. GREAT FIND dude

    • @Addictedtobleeps
      @Addictedtobleeps  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey bud!
      Very close. It's actually 1917-18, which is when the British army took Baghdad. The area I'm detecting in had loads of Canadian tropps in around WW1 time (I find a lot of badges and buttons etc)
      So, we think it was probably a Canadian soldiers ring. Will do a video update soon!

    Really nice ring. I think it maby a bit of trench art from ww1. from the fall of Baghdad. Really nice find though :)

      I tend to agree. There are a few pieces in the Imperial War Museum that were marked "Baghdad 1917-18" to mark the fall of Baghdad that include a skyline of Baghdad with palm trees.

    Welcome back. A very nice hunt indeed. Sadly, you wont be seeing me in your next video. I know, you are broken hearted. But that's only because I wont be IN it. Unless you come to Australia, and we meet, and you film it. Or some such thing... Bwhahahaha.. anyway. Indeed. A broken glass cutter I do believe that yellow thing is. Cheers!
