I wish Mr. Enter watched all 40 episodes of ChalkZone like I did. He may only like it a little more than he originally did in this review, but at least he would have something to say or show from all 4 seasons in case there are any newer stories that he liked. December 20, 2020, 4:40pm
@@watchforever1724 I also doubt he would like it, but if Enter did watch all 40 episodes of ChalkZone and not Season 1, at least he would have more to show for why he does not like ChalkZone. November 29, 2021, 10:39am
I have faded memories of that too. It was one of the few episodes I watched. If I'm remembering it right, every other Snap had some quirk or power and normal Snap was jealous because he was so normal and relatively boring. But the other Snaps were like super egotistical and rude or something? I don't even know if my "memory" of it is real, I barely watched the show.
O yeah I remember that too. There so many that Rudy had to make planet snap in order to leave the "original snap" alone. And end up with the "travel to the moon" reference with the rocket stuck in the eye of the planet.
Genuine question here, Enter: Did you only watch season 1 of this show? All the clips in this review are from season 1 episodes, and you fail to mention how Craniac 4 and Skrawl (who you even show clips of) are significant reoccurring characters. They each only have a single appearance in season 1, since it's the shortest (only 6 episodes). It seems like you only watched season 1, weren't too swayed by it and didn't continue. In that case, unfortunately I have to say this review is an extremely bad representation of the show overall, since season 1 is by far the weakest. The show takes far more advantage of its premise and specifically addresses a lot of season 1's problems (and your problems) in later seasons, though I'm not sure how to tell you that Rudy IS actually tasked with protecting/keeping the secret of ChalkZone and the fact that he's kind of bad at it is sort of the point. A lot of this review is honestly very nitpicky. Saying the show's premise is a problem because chalk boards were outdated by the time it aired is like saying Wreck-It Ralph doesn't work because arcades weren't much of a thing anymore when it came out either. I highly, HIGHLY recommend you watch the rest of the show (including the TV movie, "The Big Blow Up") and re-review it because season 1 is very much NOT a good way to gauge the series as a whole. I love ChalkZone a lot and know a lot of other people who do as well, and after eagerly anticipating this review we agreed in our Discord server this isn't an accurate or fair representation of it because it only takes into account the first season, which while we still enjoy, know is lackluster compared to the rest. Glad you liked the music though at least!
It's highly likely he didn't go any further than season 1 because he said in a earlier video in this marathon that he didn't have time to watch too much in shows he wasn't too familiar with which is too bad.
@@PipeGuy64Bit Yeah, I know he mentioned that, which further leads me to believe he only watched season 1. All the more reason I hope he sees this comment and realizes season 1 doesn't accurately portray the whole show and considers re-reviewing after he watches more.
Yeah I agree, not that I disliked this but the review felt lacking and kinda unfair. Personally, I remember this show quite fondly, actually, I still remember most of the other characters, especially when they started adding in villains.
Me: Oh boy, I can't wait till he gets to (insert name of show I remember fondly here), what's he gonna say? TheMysteriousMrEnter: "[This] is one of those shows you forget about, until someone out of the blue brings it up." Also me & the audience: Wait, but I remember that show vividly!
@@_MythicalWolf Yeah, I mean I get him not liking this, but anyone who grew up with the network of Nickelodeon would remember this show pretty vividly, even if they couldn't remember every episode, there were at least a few that stood out and was enjoyable. Of course he took the show far too seriously... for example, saying bad ideas are only ever erased is basically meant to tell the audience that we always forget bad ideas and remember the good, but we can learn from bad ideas as well to an extent that we learn even better from the bad than we do from the good. And wouldn't you know it, that episode had that exact point to tell through the story. But somehow he missed that and took it as the show having no respect for its premise. The show is very much a message of the day format, meant to give kids important existential and philosophical messages in an easy to digest format. And while they could have gone into it deep, the way they tackled all the topics they did was fun and it stood out as a very expressionist show (I say expression because the show is literally only limited by your own imagination and your concept.... not as in the characters themselves give expressionist motions or movements).
@@voiceofreason467 I mean I always forget about it until its mentioned and then remember it a lot, so I get what he means. However I do agree with the other poster. His reviews are nitpicky and super personal and subjective. These show wide nick reviews have showed that.
@Ryan Williams I personally like the theory that there is no true Krabby Patty formula, that it's just a marketing scheme to generate interest and a red herring to keep Plankton from improving his own food. Not dark, and not even that far fetched when you take into account that the show establishes that Mr. Krabs isn't the greatest chef but he IS a good business man.
@@GhabulousGhoti I like to imagine Mr.Krabs essentially created an underwater version of MSG for the Krabby Patty just like what Binging with Babish suggested.
When I was a kid, I honestly believed that ChalkZone was a real place. Whenever I drew something with chalk, I imagined it ending up there after I erased it. I even tried to draw portals there. Maybe I was a gullible kid, but I don't care. I also loved the songs.
An actual argument between me and my sister when we were little: Me: It's called, "Chalk Zone." My sister: "No, it's called "Chalk _Stone_ !" This would go on for some time...
You're right, kind of. I don't think there were any home releases until a few years after the show was canned, and even then the full series DVD doesn't include the episode "The Smooch" due to legal reasons with the Baha Men.
Damn I have to disagree with you on this one. like completely. chalk zone was definitely one of my favorite shows and every time I come back to it it just gets better. It inspired me to be creative and to be an artist. Also I love the voice cast, especially snap and I thought it was a really fun time. Honestly I think they should make more of it. Bring it back for like a Netflix movie or something. It be really interesting to see what they can do with the story now. I remember having a chalkboard and chalk when I was little and trying to go to ChalkZone for real. Fun times. fun times. I even like the character development for Rudy because in the end he actually publishes his own comic books with his own original characters and I just I was so proud of him because that’s literally me. like we are the same. I can relate to him on all of his issues. On like every level. it’s amazing. He knows the artist struggle and he represents. Also there was an episode where there were a bunch of Snaps in chalk zone because he used snap as a character in one of his comics and kids saw it and liked it and drew it over and over again so they had to make a whole separate planet in ChalkZone just for all the snaps. I don’t think you watch far enough bro.
It was great too...or so I thought. ChalkZone is one of those shows that I thought I liked because in small doses, it was so cool that I wish I could watch the same bunch of episodes more often, but when I watched all 40 episodes online in 2020, I realize it was worse than I remember, and Nickelodeon had a very good reason for not syndicating it as often as The Fairly OddParents, Spongebob Squarepants and The Penguins of Madagascar. Not to be a bummer, but...I think ChalkZone doesn't have anywhere near the wide appeal of The Fairly OddParents and Spongebob because of what Mr. Enter said. The show rarely does anything interesting with its characters (I added that first part myself), It doesn't try to be funny, and it doesn't usually think through its implications. What special secret place would make White Lightning Chalk, and how often do you think Rudy's and Penny's parents or classmates notice they are gone and worry about their disappearance every time they sneak in to ChalkZone? January 15, 2021, 10:23pm
Also, good ideas do get erased, either by people who wrongfully don't appreciate them, or because there's limited space on the board, so the idea is transferred to a more permanent medium and then erased from the board.
Actually there was an episode that revealed that there where a bunch of other versions of Snap that Rudy had drawn that where running around. Rudy had to make an entire planet to house them all.
One thing I really loved about this show (and still love) is the art style and character designs. And of course the music stuck with me, like you said it was the best part of each episode
Sadly, i muted the tv when they sing song at the end of every episode

1:56 That actually became a plot point in one of the episodes: Water and similar substances are like acid to the chalkzone. When Rudy tried to hide some old, leaking milkshakes or something there instead of cleaning up, it was a race against time before the droplets reached the chalkzone's core which would have been disastrous.
My high school had both, because we had kids who couldn't stand the way chalk felt & students who were allergic to the marker fumes. But I was n college when this show came out & they used projectors only.
My friends and I just remembered chalk zone last night and tried rewatching it having fond memories of the show. And we felt pretty much the same way. Bored out of our minds. We totally saw how great the premise is and the potential the show had. But man, it really felt like they didn’t do anything with it. I totally agree with you there. Humor was pretty juvenile. I don’t mean crass or immature, but very safe and mild , without much punch. I will say tho. Ur absolutely right. The music of this show is damn good. We noticed this when watching skrawl sing. We couldn’t get enough of it and watched it over and over again. Speaking of Skrawl, he’s probably one of the best characters in the show. He’s fun to look at, like awesome character design wise. And Jim Cummings voice work just nailed him. Skrawl almost feels too good for this show. Yeah, I like skrawl, a lot. And probs the only reason I’ll probably never forget chalkzone lol.
Similar concept but with written characters, RE:Creators: It goes into depth about creations meeting their makers and the implications of meeting the "people" you make and having to defend the choices you made to them like their backstory, wars, death. It is a great show on Amazon, with Expies or similar characters to Guts, A magical girl from standard kid-friendly show, jojo reference characters, a librarian from a dark souls esq game, and a villain that is suprising with a twist on the concept of the show itself.
CJ Betcher I highly recommend it. Twilight princess is my favorite Zelda game, and also the only Zelda game I’ve beaten. But be warned, it’ll take you a couple of sittings. When I first beat it, I clocked in around 60 hours. Now I can beat it in half the time. But still you should play it.
Either on Wednesday or if he wanted to do a double review, then maybe tomorrow. I hope that Mr. Enter would say that MLaaTR is one of his favorites. Maybe up much closer to Avatar or Danny Phantom.

I just remember getting in a LOT of trouble as a kid after hearing the cyclops say the word "knickers" and going to a waterpark and saying it and people thinking I said... another word...
It's funny when you brought up Scribblenauts, 'cause I had just been sitting there thinking that they could have technically made Scribblenauts a thing before it even was - literally a show about a kid having to use his imagination to solve problems and get himself out of trouble. Instead, we basically got "Fairly Oddparents, but with chalk!" Of all of the Nicktoons, Chalk Zone is the crown jewel of wasted potential.
I'd say "Chalkzone" was a solid series. Not necessarily the best, but it was still fun to watch for all the creative stuff they did with the chalk. I especially liked how they separated the real and chalk world's respective denizens with the different outlines they used for the characters. As for the characters themselves, they were alright. Rudy and Penny worked fairly well as a team, and Snap had a nice spunky personality to even out the group.
I have fond memories of this show. The premise is creative, really sparks imagination, though it's rough around the edges. Where did the Magic Chalk come from? How did it wind up in the real world? Did anyone else ever visit Chalkzone? I haven't seen it in years though, and I don't think I've seen the later episodes. Especially not Season 4 where half of them premiered on Nicktoons IN 2008! HOPE YOU LIKE GETTING UP AT 4AM KIDS!!!! There's not too much I remember outside of clips that played on TeenNick. The music videos I remember, "The Flavoring", especially the Baha Men one "You put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up!"
I know one song I remember from my childhood of this series that still hasn;t left my head to this day... PUT THE LIME IN THE COCONUT! YOU DRINK IT ALL UP! PUT THE LIME IN THE COCONUT AND YOU'LL FEEL BETTER!
Smartboards didn't replace blackboards. Whiteboards/dry erase boards did. Not all classes have smartboards, but NO classes have chalkboards. Classes that have smartboards almost always have a dry erase.
There is 1 episode that I will NEVER FORGET. The teacher made a special asigment for the class and put the date for this proyect on the blackboard, then erase it. Then a thursday before the deadline on monday, the teacher ask the class if they are ready to present tomorrow, making everyone worried since most were hoping to finish on the weekend, and Rudy tells the teacher that he recalls him telling him he said it was for Monday, and says he can show proof for this. The teacher says that if he can show him on Friday he will prolong the date for sure. Since the teacher put the date on a square before deleting it, it would be a page on the chalkzone, so after looking for it and finding it, Rudy gets its... but has to take a picture and change it to negative since it is reversed on the chalkzone.
Does every school in the States now use smart boards? Because in the Philippines we still use blackboards and white boards. Does every school in the States have a budget for a smart board?
This was one of my favorites shows when it was airing, but what stuck with me was mostly the premisse and a few scenes I remember from the show. I remember one episode (or special, idk exactly) where they lost the magical chalk (shockers) and go through several different worlds, as sort of indirect way into Chalk Zone. They pass through a pencil zone, a white board zone (which had nothing because a white board eraser had erased everything, I found that pretty dark at the time). Imagine all the spin-offs it could come out of that. Imagine a Digital Zone where all erased data goes to. That would be cool.
I am a little sad to say that I think you are right. I saw very little of this show as a kid, but I remembered thinking the concept was really cool. A year or two ago I remembered the show and decided to watch it, but it wasn't executed well enough for me to watch more than a couple of episodes.
I found that one weird episode with the "Markerzone" and "Pencilzone" interesting, personally. As for the Snaps, there actually was a family of "von Snaps" he drew when he was 5, and a whole planet of Snaps OTHER people drew after he became a newspaper comic character.
The Chalk drawings in the Chalk Zone need to be erased to come into existence there. How morbid, a dimension filled with drawings that have pretty much died.... Is this what happened to Doodlebob? is this Doodlebob's Ghost Zone?
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO LEGITIMATELY ENJOYED ALL GROWN UP WHEN I WAS GROWING UP; Because I Enjoyed How the Characters talked NORMAL, and could talk to their parents about their problems!!
I Mean; Instead of talking nonsense, and using words NOBODY would ever realistically use; they use actual normal words when they're older in All Grown Up!! Plus Angelica's no longer the D3m0n Child she was when she was younger; she's a LOT nicer; and the show has a character that's so mean, they make Angelica look like a true Angel in comparison, making her name more fitting and less ironic!! and the show had a Pretty Kickash theme song!!
I have alot of nostalgia for Chalk Zone. Sad to hear its not as good as I remember. Maybe one day Ill revisit it and see for myself but I totally believe you. Not every show we watched as a kid is a winner.

@@TheLadyLiddell That feels like a flawed system. I get that he cant watch THE WHOLE SHOW. But at least grab a few episodes from each season. You cant accurately represent a show otherwise.
I respect your opinion. Personally, this is my favorite Nicktoon and one of my favorite shows from my childhood. The different styles within it inspired me to get into different styles of art [3D, traditional, digital]. Although, yes, a character can be boring if they can do anything, watching it long ago and recently, I always found Rudy's use of his chalk fitting/creative for the situation. I do wish you talked more about Scrawl, as he's a reoccurring villain who stole the show for me whenever he was the focus of an episode. My favorite segment (besides the music videos and the intro) had to be whenever Snap was on his own, it really showed me he could carry a plot without Rudy or Penny around. I remember the mustache episode fondly!
I suggest you to look at the later seasons, like Season 3-4. These are the show's highlight, especially Season 4. It's one of those shows that start off bad but end up being good.
The episode with the vacuum cleaner is the first time I ever had an existential crisis. To see a world I'd gotten attached to being just inches away from true annihilation, with nothing but an endless void left in its place. It literally gave kid me nightmares about the end of the universe. I would wake up screaming because everything around me was turning into nothing but blackness. I still consider it one of the most frightening episodes of a TV show I've ever seen.
I remember watching Chalkzone when they were two shorts on Oh Yeah! Cartoons, then as a full show until its schedule got jerked around. The third and fourth seasons outside of the holiday specials aren't as good and binge watching it is a chore because my attention span keeps darting towards other cartoons like A.R.M. I love the idea and the near realistic chalk art of the shorts. I'm not too keen on the execution in the show. All Grown Up was good...the special. As a kid I really liked it and thought it was neat, but when they spun it off into a TV show it sucked hard on the teat of that reception with the only thing I remember liking being Chuckie and Angelica and/or Dil. As for the chalkboard thing...in high school we still had chalkboards. Two words: math class.
The same exact teacher thing I feel is just a not so prevalent trope. Still happens even within the last few years (Mr. Simmons from Hey Arnold [mainly thinking on the jungle movie] and Mr. Sweeney from Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide stick out to me). Heck it happens in real life too. I almost had the same teacher two years in a row because she was qualified for 7th, and 8th grade classes and my school had so little applicants for 8th grade teachers after several either moved away or retired.
Don't remember this one too much but coming from someone completely neutral, his complaints do seem grounded. 1. Hey Arnold 2. Invader Zim 3. Rocko's Modern Life 4. KaBlam! 5. Aaahh! Real Monsters 6. Jimmy Neutron 7. Spongebob Squarepants 8. The Fairly Odd Parents 9. Ren & Stimpy 10. The Wild Thornberrys 11. The Angry Beavers 12. Rugrats 13. As Told By Ginger 14. Chalk Zone 15. Action League Now 16. Doug 17. Rocket Power 18. CatDog
I remember watching this show on my little video player. It came in a DVD format with other Nick shows, but I dont really think they're being made anymore, which is sad, because I loved Snap in the show!
I feel like I did watch ChalkZone as a kid, but I'm not sure if I did and only remembered it because I grew up watching similar things, like that episode of Rupert where they enter a land of chalk drawings or... Simon and the Land of Chalk Drawings, anyone remember that?
Even at 30, I fondly remember this show. As do my friends . You should try watching season 2. Side note, smart boards must have been a rich kid thing to have lol. I didn't get them till middlescool
Dude... Yes, chalk is temporary, that's the premise... Kids still use it frequently to draw on sidewalks or playgrounds. It's used on festival days to decorate buildings in an easily cleaned way. It's doesn't lose anything just because blackboards aren't in style... That argument is like saying "I don't like black&white shows because it's outdated" Guess the old fashioned Mickey Mouse isn't good anymore because he's outdated compared to the new one that's just a mascot and not really used anymore unless to entertain give year olds :/

I swear there was an episode where their was basically every other Snap Rudy ever drawn... or at least that was shown as small gag.
@@LordOberic1 that episode was that Snap got famous in the real world so other kids started drawing Snap in chalk.

@@PipeGuy64Bit yep. Makes sense. Tbh he should make a series review of this show and some other shows from this when he has a chance.
@@PipeGuy64Bit Yeah, I know he mentioned that, which further leads me to believe he only watched season 1. All the more reason I hope he sees this comment and realizes season 1 doesn't accurately portray the whole show and considers re-reviewing after he watches more.

YEAH! THIS SHOW IS GORGEOUS
I LIKED THE 1st SEASON BUT THE 2nd IS EXCELENT
Yeah I agree, not that I disliked this but the review felt lacking and kinda unfair. Personally, I remember this show quite fondly, actually, I still remember most of the other characters, especially when they started adding in villains.
Me: Oh boy, I can't wait till he gets to (insert name of show I remember fondly here), what's he gonna say?
TheMysteriousMrEnter: "[This] is one of those shows you forget about, until someone out of the blue brings it up."
Also me & the audience: Wait, but I remember that show vividly!
I KNOW, RIGHT?
It's about rmemeberinging vividly but not thinking about it often especially in discussions.

Chalk Zone’s premise reminded me of Digimon where it was mentioned that lost data end up in the Digital World.
Huh, I've never thought about it that way.
Damn you, Sprint!
This show was my second favorite after Fairly Odd Parents when I was a kid
I don't care what anyone says. It was great.

I liked this show too.
1:56 That actually became a plot point in one of the episodes: Water and similar substances are like acid to the chalkzone. When Rudy tried to hide some old, leaking milkshakes or something there instead of cleaning up, it was a race against time before the droplets reached the chalkzone's core which would have been disastrous.
Even back in the early 2000's when this was out, all of my schools had marker boards.

Smartboards didn't replace blackboards. Whiteboards/dry erase boards did. Not all classes have smartboards, but NO classes have chalkboards.
Classes that have smartboards almost always have a dry erase.
ChalkZone has a very innocuous-looking artstyle.
I watched Chalkzone alot when I was a kid. I think I liked it for the most part, also wasn't Penny voiced by Starfire (Hynden Walch)?

The same exact teacher thing I feel is just a not so prevalent trope. Still happens even within the last few years (Mr. Simmons from Hey Arnold [mainly thinking on the jungle movie] and Mr. Sweeney from Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide stick out to me). I almost had the same teacher two years in a row because she was qualified for 7th, and 8th grade classes and my school had so little applicants for 8th grade teachers after several either moved away or retired.
