I agree with the "concept" of outsourcing as much as possible. However, "local economic" factors and regional labor costs can play a role in how practical this might be. For instance, when I went to grad school at USC back in late 90s, taking the car to a local dealership was quite manage-able due to competition. However, moving to a midwestern town with a population of ~100k people, the same service that cost ~$300 in LA now costs close to $600 likely due to lack of competition. Although it is possible to find a good local mechanic, that process itself takes investing time and trial and error. Similar arguments can be made for almost all of the things listed in this video because many times hiring handymen can have its own issues - they may not only charge higher locally, but sometimes they do unnecessary things - e.g. hired a handymen with great references from multiple folks to repair window flashing. He fixed it just fine but then looked at the uncovered dryer vent below the window and said - "here, I will add this snap-on dryer vent cover to prevent bugs etc getting in" and charged me an additional $25 for it. Later I found that the same vent cover can be purchased at local hardware store for less than $10. And to top it off, when the same handymen came by couple weeks later, he removed that vent cap and dumped in our garbage saying "it's now illegal in the city" - really?!
Don't get me wrong, I do get the gist of this video - with kids of our own and juggling multiple things, it does help to identify and outsource as much as possible and pay a fair price for the hard working and knowledgeable workers. However, it would be in your interest to understand the amount of effort involved in accomplishing the task at hand - which can sometimes be done only by attempting to do the same task yourself (unless it falls outside the "safe boundaries" of one's expertise).
I also agree with the gist behind someone else's comment here about "cleaning your own toilet keeps one humble" - this is true about any task and understanding what is involved in doing task which helps in appreciating the work done by someone else if/when that task is outsourced.

For the DIY stuff, I have to add in the hassle of dealing with a maintenance service to the cost of paying them. Too often, they do shoddy work, then I have to argue with them about the results. That can create a lot of extra stress and eat extra time. The higher your standards, the harder it is to outsource anything at a reasonable price.

I had typed in a similar and slightly more lengthy response within couple hours of this video being posted yesterday because I could relate to some things and the overall concept of trying to outsource things - but it was deleted for some reason. Last year I finally gave in and outsourced our bimonthly lawn mowing. So happy with this decision.
It’s comforting to know that other people try to DIY home stuff and fail as much as I do. (My husband and I call it pulling a MacGruber, after the SNL character.)
One thing I actually think is good to do yourself is cleaning toilets, though. There’s a Japanese belief that cleaning your own toilets keeps you humble and gives you good vibes. I like that.
Not only do I save money on Lawncare, my neighbors pay me to help them with theirs. They used to pay the pros. Tae, this list is for the Well padded pockets.

This is great advice. I measure everything with how much I make it work. I’m a specialist and what I do. So I’d much rather stay an extra hour at work, and use that hour to pay a lawn care guy who could do what I would have to do in half the time.
When it comes to home, DIY stuff, especially repairs I just consider what the impact is on my free time, and if I have anything pending. Now that our house is about to be sold, I don’t have time not to let somebody else do the work.
I really love Misfit Foods. A lot of perfectly good groceries get thrown out not because they go bad, but because they're not pristine looking. Emphasis on /looking/. So I buy and use them. They're more affordable, it's easy to get them delivered, and I feel a little better knowing that less produce is going to waste.
Ironically, I don't have the time to earn enough money to pay for all these time-saving options because I'm too busy running around doing them myself. 😛

LOL laundry is already outsourced to a machine. Most of that 2 hours per week is just the machine doing the work, right?
I feel like it takes more time to fold and put laundry away than to wash it. If you have to iron, that adds another time-consuming step. throw a couple of kids into the mix, and the chore gets quite a bit bigger.
I have to disagree with dog walking. If you can't walk your dog properly I think you need to check your priorities because a loyal dog is just as deserving of your time as kids.
I don't care if it's raining or I'm extremely tired, I'll never neglect my dog because he didn't force me to adopt him, it was MY decision (and my wife) and with having a dog comes a certain responsability.
To me it feels like hiring a professor to help young kids with homework because "you don't have the time to do it".
I can undestand doing that in high school if you really can't help them with certain subjects because you lack the knowledge, but not being able to spend 1 hour to help your kids with homework or not being able to give your dog at least 1 hour of walks everyday... can't agree with that.
You mean you got a dog to actually spend time with it? What's wrong with you? Unproductive!

Not a bad video but definately not what the source of his content is. When i see his videos all i think is "Be frugal" lol. Theres nothing Frugal about this video. It definately at the very least should of had a different title. Taylord to those who can afford those things and some IMO..
I agree, especially with laundry and some ideas that really might outweigh the cost. But yes 100% a subjective list and tailored to different salaries.
unless you're running a company with more than 10 employees, taxes can already be outsourced to Turbotax and similar companies....
Mowing with Costco mower is cheaper we switched last year not sure why it has been included here

I outsource everything I can’t do competently or that might get me killed or injured - I don’t fix my brakes, fuse boxes or any major part with my guns - let the pros do it

I take this list for those people who are super busy running a business and/or are above a certain net worth threshold.
Home Maintenance Project - I usually do myself unless it requires a license professional or getting permits.
Taxes - I do myself as well. But I could see outsourcing this to a professional is your tax situation is complex.
Bill Pay and Investments - Yes!
Family Entertainment - Resorts are good if you choose the right one. We usually take our kids to the local Aquarium or Zoo once a year. Ditto if driving to a reginal amusement park. Perhaps if we visited these place multiple times a year, yes.
I think this list is very specfic to the individual and family...very difficult to come up with a list for the masses.

This is above my tax bracket,if you are rich like always it makes sense, home maintanence and maybe cleaning if you are middle class makes the rest is for upper class and above or in america is diferents.´
If i was rich i wouldn´t care either i would enjoy been a landlord and outsourcing everything i could afford.

Only if you are very busy and earn more per hour than the cost of these services. Usually neither of those are true. TH-cam is your friend... DIY to save $$.

I mow my own yard. Doing the math $40 weekly for 8 months a year for the past 22 year = $28,000+.
I am lazy, so it was forced exercise.
Not a good advice. Outsource everything from home maintenance, food to kids care…. Yes, you save time but you loose much more. I agree with home maintenance work that requires expertise and some yard work like tall tree trimming etc…but clothes, food, party, entertainment, kids care. These are things that you can do easily. If you are efficient and organized then you can do them quickly and well.
It costs lots of money to outsource unless you hire the right people, security risk for your family if many people come to your home, lack of physical activities (gardening, walk dog), you not learning new skills, your kids learn nothing about house keeping from mom and dad (how do they live on their own)…. To me, this is how people got spoiled because they think money buys everything.

This is less "what to outsource" and more "what I can pay for now that I'm rich". Video is a miss, and not helpful.
I kinda have to agree, it contradicts alot of the what not to do in most of his videos but I guess this is tailored to people who can afford these things. I can definitely afford most of these things but I don't waste my money because I can't fathom paying someone to do my chores if I have a reasonable amount of time to do them. Just because u got doesn't mean u should kinda thing. Plus I chose that house, those cars, that big yard, children etc, etc. All that comes at a price and with a hefty list of chores with it so buck up lol. It's the way I was raised I guess 🤷🏻
He starts with “as you age and start making more money.” Not every video is meant for everyone.
In my experience, sometimes all of the chores can keep you from getting ahead in life. It’s counterintuitive but when I was a student, I had a lot of help with things like this so I could focus on my goals and now I’m building a business and I just wouldn’t have time to work on my business if I didn’t hire help for the things that can eat up all of my day. For me it’s not about being lazy but buying myself a chance to make more money. I read about it in some money book, “think and grow rich” I think.
Honestly how much time does it take to wash your clothe and clean your house? For me no where close to paying someone else to do it for me, I rather save the money. Now if the home is a 2 parent household with several children and pets I can see how outsourcing the cleaning duties is helpful. Washing your clothe NEVER! Invest in a good washer & dryer the price has been decreasing steadily every year. Some of his suggestions are ridiculous, kinda outta touch

I don't get it. A video just a year ago was 10 tips on how to be frugal. Now you're giving us 15 tips on how to spend more money. What's the focus of the channel?
It’s suggestions for being rational with money. You could have the same proclivity for spending and be 'outsourcing' tasks like these. Admittedly, this applies to fewer people, and a lot more is down to preference. But the underlying context and value-driven choice ranking is the same.
I understand the advice he's giving. What I don't understand is that this channel used to give the opposite advice.
Being frugal and smart with your money means eventually you have a bit more discretionary income in the budget with which you can buy back your time.

It's EXACTLY the same advice. Instead of doing house cleaning for 1 hour, earn 50/hour in your expert field and pay a cleaner 25/hour.
