@@morayfryei feel this kinda stems from history, nes, snes, and n64 all had limeted space esspecly compared to the cd format playstation used. gamecube used mini discs wich could hold less then full sized. wii used dvd like format and wiiu used blueray like but both came at a time when those were syarting to be phased out (dvds to blue rays and bluerays to digital) and now the switch wich while haveing a bigger online store then has nintendo ever had the phisical part went back to cartidges wich while being bigger in size then ever are still expensive to make compared to discs and only get more expensive based of the size (cartidges come in 1gb,2gb,4gb,8,16,32 and i think 64gb modles). ever wonder why the phisical megaman legacy collection release has a phiscal copy of 1 and a download code for 2 its so capcom only had to use cheeper 1gb cartridges rather then the 2gb ones(also at the time of its release you condnt have 2 games on one cartidge like you can now and capcome probly thout it wasnt worth the effort coding them into one game with a selection screen)

When the first trailer in March came out, I thought it was just a deluxe Switch version of Smash for 3DS and Wii U with a tiny amount of added fighters, like Inkling and Ice Climbers. I never expected what would happen next.
Every single veteran returning, Ridley, Simon, K.Rool, Banjo, Steve, Sephiroth, Sora...
Sometimes I look back and it sinks in again how surreal it was to have experienced this game and roster. I'm not expecting anything of this magnitude to happen again in my lifetime.

    • @TheGamersState
      @TheGamersState 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@Eichro To be fair, it was understandable given how at the time they confirmed it was coming out in 2018. Keep in mind, at that point in time, it had barely been 2 years since Smash Bros 4 wrapped up and considering how long it took at make past Smash Games, the most rational mindset at the time did seem to be that it was an enhanced port.
And to be honest, while clearly a new game, SSBU is a port in the sense of reused assets. Past Smash Games always remade everything from scratch but with SSBU they did reuse a ton from SSB4.
Obviously now we have the power of hindsight but at that point in time it did seem like a reasonable assumption.
Just to clarify; I am NOT saying SSBU is an enhanced port, I know it's not, I'm saying it is strictly in the sense of them reusing assets.

@@TheGamersState Sure, we can tell it has more in common with the previous entry than any other two games in the series, but Smash fans are already accostumed to the next entry in the franchise to be a massive leap from the previous one (regardless of it being a good or bad leap), and Ultimate was marketed as a new entry since day one. Even considering the shorter development cycle, I don't think it was all that reasonable to assume it was not going to be a really new game.

Securing worldwide rights to use something as "simple" as the Mickey Mouse icon or a piece of Final Fantasy music is not an easy task. Just compiling a list of the rights holders in each region of the world to a forty year old piece of music from an NES game just to play when Balloon Fighter pops up for a couple of seconds is a Hurculean task in itself.

He originally wasn't going to. Fighters Pass Volume 2 originally only had five fighters (six if you include Mythra). But then, at Tokyo Game Show, while Sakurai won an award for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he had a chance encounter with a Disney executive, and informally asked if adding Sora to Smash were possible. He expected to be shot down, but surprisingly, the Disney executive was actually quite interested, and that got the ball rolling to add one last slot to the DLC.
One other fun bit of trivia about Sora: when he was added to the game, he didn't bring Donald and Goofy, or any Disney stuff with him. A lot of people seem to think that this was because Disney wouldn't let Nintendo use them. But that's actually not true. Choosing to omit Donald and Goofy was Sakurai's decision. He believed that the Super Smash Bros. series was meant to be a celebration of gaming history, with characters from video games, not characters from film. So he chose to leave out the Disney stuff.

@@BJGvideos I'm glad they were happy - though after Mewtwo was playable and then omitted, I think the standard was already set, at least for him. I legitimately stopped buying Nintendo products from the day Brawl's roster was shown to be final and only came back the day the 50-Fact Extravaganza was streamed, buying multiple consoles and both purchasing and preordering several hundred dollars worth of games the next day. I felt that strongly about his cut from Brawl and his return in Smash 4. I do wonder how many other people legitimately changed how they feel about Nintendo as a whole from one character's inclusion or lack thereof...and I think it's knowing I might not be alone in how heavily I responded to that that led to the feeling of how important it was that "EVERYONE IS HERE!"

It's really quite nice seeing the thought process on something like Spirits and World of Light in particular. Many thought that we could see something like Subspace in terms of a grander story mode, but were mildly disappointed. It's less that Smash Ultimate didn't *want* to deliver something like that, but that the scope was impossible especially given it was this big already. I had already figured something like this was the case, but it's always nice to see when you think like other developers and that your thoughts aren't just your own crazy ramblings, haha.

Did the team have some unexpected downtime during development and threw it together on a whim? Was it the result of having a gap between finishing the main game and starting on the DLC and it was an addition that could be made easily without needing to negotiate any licenses?

People might shit on Nintendo a lot but behind the company sits a team of dedicated and amazingly skilled people working on amazing games. The amount of content you fit into 16 GBs is probably one of the most amazing things about it. So many games nowadays omit compression which leads to games with huge download times and storage requirements but they went into this game compression in mind first. Considering the Japanese were among some of the first to rebirth the Phoenix of gaming I would say they still hold their torch and aren't letting go. God Speed Sakurai

Funnily enough, my first ever console was the PlayStation, but as fate would have it, it stopped working early on, and I defaulted to NES/N64. Nintendo fan ever since. They could even add new spirits with all the new games that have come out after ultimate and that haven't came out yet. Kirby and the forgotten land, Metroid dread, mario wonder, new donkey kong, new 3D Mario, new mario kart ect all have potential for a re-release of ultimate.

Even when people do complain about things in smash bros ultimate, I hope I can comfort you with the knowledge that it will never EVER detract from the incredible achievement you and everyone else who worked on it made with the game. The game functions better than anyone expected, the gameplay feels like melee but performs like *ultimate*, there's a huge variety of content for loads and loads of people to enjoy and the series as a whole, has probably one of, if not the largest communities.
You're never going to be able to make *everyone* satisfied/happy with anything, nobody is. People are incredibly hard to please. The fact you've had overwhelmingly positive feedback from so many people who've played and loved each game should be a testament to your legacy that is smash bros and everything else you've worked so hard towards.
You're right in that there probably won't be a game in the smash bros franchise as large as ultimate. It would take a LOT of time and a LOT of coinage and even then, it's never gonna make everybody happy. The next game (if there ever is one [which would be amazing but at the same time, this is a good place to end it if need be]) is very likely to drop some fighters due to licencing issues and needing to make room for new fighters. It won't mean that all of them won't come back together in future games however.
You should feel proud and satisfied with your contributions to the gaming community. We never deserved someone like you at the helm of one of the biggest (and arguably best) game series of all time.
