I bought my D-18 new in 1973. I have another guitar. I use it when going out in hot or cold weather because the D-18 is temperamental. But, it still sounds and plays better than anything else I've tried. I had 1 neck reset (there is no truss rod) at the Martin factory in the early 2000's and had to have the bridge reglued 5 years ago. It's aging much better than I am. I'm glad you get to play yours occasionally. Note: I paid $340 new. It took about 20 years to start sounding really good, as the wood aged. I use Martin Retro (Tony Rice) 12-56 nickel strings on it. I play in a bluegrass band, so, it gets used several hours a week. It does not like sitting in the case, it likes to be played.
