    The Middle Fork Trail along Lytle Creek takes you through the rugged heart of the Cucamonga Wilderness. You’ll hike up along a dramatic canyon formed by Lytle Creek, through a landscape reminiscent of Yosemite. Along the way, we’ll visit a hidden waterfall, my favorite in Southern California, before reaching the end of the trail at Icehouse Saddle.

    We do this every year in the winter for our intro backpacking trip with scouts. We try to get to the saddle, but are usually prevented by snow.

    Awesome! I grew up in Upland (south of Mt Baldy) and have never hiked Lytle creek. Maybe I’ll try, thanks for sharing!

    The lower trail that runs through stone camp later connects back up to the main Middle fork...and is my favorite detour...as it follows along the creek instead of running along the bank.

    Just did this trail on Sunday it is my favorite route up to the saddle now. Very peaceful the waterfall is an added bonus. Thank you for your video and all the details you put into it. Definitely will explore again from here but will add Ontario or cucamonga to the hike.

    Like many commenting, I've done Cucamonga a bunch of times, and always wondered about that fork heading down to the left from Icehouse on the way to Cucamonga Peak. Looks like I'll have to plan a hike through there! Thanks Cris!

      👍👍 Yea this route is much more quiet - I might see one or two people on this trail if any - much different than Icehouse Canyon

    I worked with USFS Del Rosa Hot Shots; and one weekend, we got to hike from the ski-lifts on Baldy, down Ice House to Lytle Creek. This was not a hiking adventure, we repaired the trails from the previous winter storms. Great time, except for "someone" stash Poison Ivy in my sleeping bag - should have made them haul me out.

      Oh man, I've had a bad history with poison ivy and oak, I feel your pain. And a big thanks for taking care of the trails!

    I was wondering where that Middle Fork trail junction led to the last time I did Cucamonga from Icehouse. This looks amazing! Would make a great local backpacking trip. Did you come across any other hikers before the saddle? Seems pretty remote for the San Gabriels.

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea, it's pretty off the beaten path, great for camping. I did this hike 4 times in the last 2 months and never saw anyone else on the trail.

    I was heading over there today to do a hike for the Autumn Equinox. I heard a high clearance vehicle is needed for the road in but I also heard some sedans made it. Is it possible to be careful and drive in without a high clearance vehicle? Thanks for your video. If worse comes to worse, I read you can park off the road and walk extra 1/2 mile to the trailhead 🤷🏻‍♀️
