So many such monsters are never caught! So horrible for the families to have no closure. But I also always wonder what went through the hearts of minds of those poor victims in their last moments, so full of horror and dread, no one should die like that. Even when they execute people for crimes, they first put them to sleep before the final kill shot.

Plz be encouraged: if you are able to listen to this and have it help you hold conversations, you may be brighter than you think! It's possible that you have a learning challenge or processing challenge that has little to do with your intelligence. Unfortunately friends your age and above are known to have fallen through educational cracks and were often told they were "stupid" along the way. Unless you've had an intelligence test, there is no need to believe that. Knowing you learn better auditorally is a wonderful compensation for whatever is going on. Our brains are complex. Cheers!

The way he formats his videos with the timelines and then goes into analyzing it, is definitely unique. You seem intelligent with the way you wrote your comment...do you know how many guys can't even spell easy words? I live in Agawam , MA on route 75 about a half mile from the retail/card shop. For years it was disturbing this case went unsolved and there was the possibility that a killer could still be in the community. It was also heartbreaking knowing her family had no closure or justice. Sad he did not get the help he needed before this heinous crime.

It's interesting how SA and homicidal fantasies can plague someone much to their torment and they are able to resist them until they meet a certain person by chance. No other woman was at risk, only that specific person. Something about this victim was enough to compel the assailant to surrender to his fantasies and act. Something specific. And then, no one after. Trippy.

    Good morning, Dr. Grande!
It's odd that Gary would swallow ibuprofen in an attempt to commit suicide and then check into a hospital.
It's unfortunate that a man, obviously damaged goods from an early age, who had no previous criminal history snapped and gave into his darkest dreams (only once).
Once was enough, and he felt guilt for the rest of his life until the police finally were able to close in on him.
He gave up and was willing to pay for his crime, but that wouldn't make everything all right.
    Lisa is dead.
    Thanks for sharing.

He said outright that he was a coward. That is why he was so pathetic about his “suicide attempt”. It was just an act. He was trying to look remorseful, even though he really never was all that remorseful.
He was ultimately selfish and cowardly. And while he knew it was wrong, he was weak and failed to improve himself. Pathetic excuse of a man. His foster parents failed pretty massively

These rare cases where a murderer feels remorse and ultimately confesses are interesting. With many killers there is no regret or moral compunction but in a few cases it almost seems that the killing was an aberration, a deflection from a life pathway. In this case the grief and guilt seem to be a moral revulsion for the act. I wonder about people who can teeter on such a fine fulcrum. Most of us are rooted to morality more substantially. I feel that fantasy is a strong driver for these "accidental murderers." I feel that in rare cases fantasy can be a drug of choice, that it can transform a user into a monster, in a wink. It would be interesting if Dr. Grande would explore the signs of harmless fantasy and of unhealthy fantasy.

I remember when this happened. I was living in Brattleboro, VT, at the time. They ended up profiling this case on Unsolved Mysteries. I didn't think they'd ever solve this case, but they finally arrested and convicted the perp.

Great Billy Joel references at the end, especially the last one (For The Longest Time)!
Gary wasn't going to give up until he did not have any other reasonable choice, and I don't believe he had any intention of committing suicide.
When a person doesn't seem to connect with other people, it would be easy to start to resent those around him/her.

Wow... A murderer with empathy for his actions... A rare bird
Many people have kinky fantasy but do not act upon them... the fact that he did says something.
I wonder what he was thinking when he committed this act... Was it like his fantasy, or was it the fact that it wasn't that caused him not to commit another such crime.
I believe he was following the case so closely afterwards was only to see if they were on to him...he may have been feeling extremely guilty too. Just the fact he stabbed this child to death says something about him... something very dark deep within

    • @trippmoore
      @trippmoore ปีที่แล้ว

You can’t really have empathy for your actions. Even still, empathy is something you have for someone else, not yourself. I think remorse is the word you are looking for in that sentence. Also, just because someone murders another it doesn’t necessarily mean they lack empathy. That would be a characteristic of a psychopath, and while there is a higher percentage of psychopaths among people that have committed murder versus those that haven’t it’s not the case that all murderers are psychopaths. It Depends on how you analyze the data, but generally speaking a about 1% of the total population is a psychopath. Among those that have been convicted of murder the number is somewhere between. 27% and 34%. So up to 3/4ths of murderers in prison have the capacity to have empathy for others. I hope that clears it up.

I'm curious why a search warrant was granted just based on an accusation from a disgruntled ex. You indicated this was the case with several of the suspects. While this did allow the police to find Gary it does seem unfair that a search warrant was granted.
