Just came across your video on 58 ford panel. I use to own a 57 panel same kind of truck. Drove it from northern california to Illinois via LA , Vegas and east from there. Had a lot of fun in that old truck. Dont even have a picture of it.
When we kids my dad had the Chevy version of that panel van remembering those trips to the local landfill with a load of tree trimmings was blast only thing we had to watch was dad hit a bump to watch our heads cause we’d lay on top of the branches wow miss those days thanks for the memories
Great Rescue! I felt bad for the truck being buried like that. Previous owner had trouble with right turns. Every panel was hit. Backing up looked to be a problem too
It has been quite the journey. I finished up this part 1 video a year ago. Now I'm getting part 2 going, compiling a years worth of photos and videos. Coming soon!!!
Jesus! You're killing me! Choke it for christ sake. All six cyl firing order 153624 you learn that first week of A school. Sorry I cut my eye teeth on these old Fords. Navy was still usuing them overseas. Well the SeaBees were
Hey Dale, I can tell you I've started editing part 2. I'm currently recovering from surgery so the process has been slow. Really hoping it will be up in a couple of weeks. I know there is a lot of anticipation for it. Thanks for the support.

@@horaciopliego8354 Awesome, I appreciate that. My goal is to have part 2 up in the next four weeks. I'm editing it now, compiling a years worth of video and photos. I had not idea the video would take off like it has the last few weeks. Its gone crazy.
I liked the music background as it is better than listening to people grunt. I wish more of the first start videos were cleaning and checking to see what they have. That old 221 ford engine came back.... not much to start with but a good place holder. Lot more good metal than bad so its a builder unless the frame has some hidden agenda. Even the wiring as old as it is will probably be usable but nice if replaced a wire at a time till all in nice rows then the ends on an loomed. There were many a loaf of bread sold out of those trucks
Frame is solid, wiring is toast, it will get a new harness. I talk a bit about the bread truck part of it in the next video, working on that right now.
Considering where that panel truck has been sitting and for as long as it was sitting it has faired pretty well. Going to make one cool ride for someone..
I have bought several trucks in the same condition. I always hit the self serve power car wash on the way home. I spend about $15 bucks power washing the whole thing. Prevents a mess at home.
thanks, I've literally tried more than once to shoot part 2 and have had the truck not cooperate with me. Currently I'm pulling the fuel tank back out to see why its plugged up.
Pretty much all the videos I have seen about old cars rescues, the guys never change the oil before fire up the engine. Is it a good idea to start the engine with 40 years old oil in the pan?
Not for any length of time. Most guys will verify the engine will run and get the oil hot enough to drain out. Then put in new. We didn't have a cooling system so we couldn't run it very long. Not having oil in it is another story. Once we new it would run, the oil was changed and we went to work on the rest of it. 38 years is a long time to sit outside.
This looks like a great restoration project, will you restore it back to original condition? Either way good luck, keep safe and well in these crazy times.
@@joeschlotthauer840 Thats great, one of the three guys who work on this channel has a shop in So Cal, full time tech on vintage cars. Mitch is his name. He's going to be working on some new vids for the tech side of things. We can all learn something new.
I wouldn't dare mess up this perfect patina. Even the dents have good paint. The front pass fender does need to be partially replaced. I have a fender already for it. Wouldn't be too hard to spot in the original color and color sand it to match. Just depends on how long I keep it.
If I played Led or any other band I would get a copyright strike and it effects the channel, so the music choices are limited. The plus is I use almost no music in Part 2.
Hey John, I tell you what, if we hadn't had a couple of wires in the wrong places it would have started much sooner. Once we figured that out, it fired right now.

Amazing how well it cleaned up and how well it ran.
Yes, we are in a dry climate here in the Central Valley. That helps a lot with these old cars.
My dad had a 63 dodge carry all. Same version. We went on trips with it. Mom dad and all 8 kids. Fun times.
Memories you will never forget, thats very cool.
Sounded like a diesel engine. That is so cool that you got it running.
That would be the solid lifter cam, and the valve lash thats way out of adjustment. I talk about that in Part 2.
