    I was born in 1962 and I remember the Danish postal service using these. Painted a dull, mustard-like yellow, and always with a boxy sidecar for the letters and packages.

    Beautiful motorcycles, I got to try a 600cc without a sidecar forty years ago, but I will never forget the Nimbus.

    Brings back memories of my working life as I must be one of only a few people in England to have ever worked on a Nimbus.

    We had two in our sidecar club in the US for ages. Both owners have passed on and the bikes have gone to owners out of state... Magnificent bikes. They were the highlight when they came!

    When I was a kiddo I remember seeing a lot of nimbus around, but now it's so rare to see them. But I know one, that I often see parked the same spot on the street, all year around. And yes I'm from denmark.

    The engine sounds like a Honda CB 750 in 1970. The frame is made of flat iron and it runs 120km/h? Wow, what a hell drive! - In 1985 i saw a fisherman in DK, using the bike w/h sidecar transporting fish in a box in all day use from trawler to the market. The typical noise makes me look up.

      Denmark in the 80s must of been a special place.

    • @kasperkjrsgaard1447
      @kasperkjrsgaard1447 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It maybe can run 120 km/h but it won’t do that for long. The rear cylinders will overheat and grind to a miserable hold. The cruising speed solo is about 80-90 km/h and about 65-70 km/h with sidecar.

  • @noahwail2444
    @noahwail2444 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice, but a sliight correktion; The A and B models was not OHV but sidevalved engines, still 750 cc with 3 gears and shaft drive. They were called the Stowepipes, due to the backbone frame, that dubbeled as a fueltank.

    • @larsk.789
      @larsk.789 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A slight correction to your correction: Model A and B had IOE (Inlet Over Exhaust) Engines.

    Nothing makes a buzz noise as "the flat iron rocket" at full speed.
    For Danes it's recognizabel from far distance.
    Beautiful example.

      yes, but the nimbus is no fun over 70km/h so at the motorway where cars do 130 and trucks 90 km/h it is dangerous, remember these machines was made back roads where bad and doing 60 was really fast

  • @robertwalsh5461

    Any speed above 45 mph with a sidecar is risking death. I am not talking about the very special sidecars that race like the Mann TT.

    • @JanBruunAndersen
      @JanBruunAndersen ปีที่แล้ว

      It was strong enough to be used by the Danish military, postal service (and possibly the police). I was born in 1962 and I remember the Danish postal service using these. Painted a dull, mustard-like yellow, and always with a boxy sidecar for the letters and packages.
