Nice work guys, can't wait to see how this turns out! feel free to reach out with any electrical questions you may have moving forward with the build. I'm a red seal sparky/ backyard mechanic. I'm sure you have a good idea what to do but if nothing else remember to fuse everything at the source it's being fed from and always use the proper gauge wire. Good luck! -Another Matt on the island
This channel is by FAR my favourite and ha been since before Matt had that roll over in the Yeti years ago. You guys are go getters. You’re grabbing life by the nards and taking advantage of all the positive things that come your way. You guys if you haven’t already done so should Pat each other on the back. You both deserve it. Can’t wait for more content. It’s all good. I know you know this already but you guys have surrounded yourselves with some tea awesome people. Keep it up. 👍❤️
This brings back such memories! When I got my '77 back around 1995 it had been 22R rebuilt and new brakes so I didn't need to do much mechanically. The first thing I did was gut the coach as you are here. After I did some things to preserve the original rubberized tent skirt I got busy putting back in. I had very little budget or electrical experience, but fairly useful woodworking/cabinetry skills and a keen sense of floor plan. I ended up living full time in it all over the Santa Barbara area until I hit the road in Fall of '98. That journey took me all through the Northwest and Western Canada ending up eventually in South-central Florida where I'm comfortably aging. I let Chinook go around 2001 when I got my first house, but I wish I still had it at times. I've got limited photos as back then I had just a 35mm camera. Thanks so much for taking me on all your journeys including this one...! 🥰
Greetings from the south Okanagan, thanks for the video update. Not to be "that guy" but as a BC Hunter Safety instructor for 35 odd years, the poop in the tent would be Cervid if it's deer. Cervids have antlers which they lose annually, Bovids have horns which grow for the life of the animal. On to rigs, that diesel Land Cruiser is so cool. I love hearing the older diesels rattling as they're warming up. Looking forward to seeing where you go with the clean slate build on the Chinook. Stay well you two.
Glad the chinook is all ready for interior makeover. Can't wait to see the new interior front and back. Also interesting to see if you'll put another engine in. Imagine Landcuriser chinook 2.0 should be very interesting. Great buy on the newest Landcuriser.
This video is SMOKIN'...... Well, the remains of 1.0 are anyhow.... I Love this Toyota, it deserves to have the interior rebuilt to a new level of dream.... You Both made AWESOME video content of your trip and now we get to see the dream machine become a new Creation....
This is Gonna be Fun!!!! A word of advice..... Build it light !! Insulate it 2 inch foamboard minimum, and leave no metal exposed. The Floor is the worst cold transfer spot. My Callen Camper sits on the truck rails. A steel truck floor has taught me a lot in summer &winter 4 years now. Layer that floor . this will serve you in both extremes.🤙🤙🔧🔨🛠️🔧🔨🛠️🏁🏁Be blessed
❤Hey guys! New vanlife TH-camr here (SUNFLOWER'S BIG ADVENTURES) Absolutly awsome project and looking forward to seeing this beauty finished and watching your next adventure! Peace and love from SUNFLOWERS BIG ADVENTURES❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So sad to see Sunday stripped down but I’m sure the best is yet to come. Also wondering how many ‘winter commuter vehicles’ does Stace need - just asking for a friend and my garage 😅 and as always - much love ❤
You guys are awesome! I love your channel, your builds, your personalities, and character. Keep it up guys! I hope to meet you guys in person someday since I just live in South Eastern Washington.
Awesome project! Check your wiring because when you started the FJ60 at the end of the video a spark shoots out the bottom of the engine bay. Something may be shorting out.
Between proper ventilation and good insulation in a small space combined with every possible environment you got tough choices. I daily a FJ60, they are essential. There is no suitable modern equivalent but they are ripe for mods.
The brown diesel machine for $1K Canadian. Score! I'd pretty much give my lefty for a 5 speed diesel cruiser that I could register and drive around California with the biggest Shit eatin' permagrin for the rest of my earthly days. Congrats you two. Love your content.
Great channel. I watched the build and some of the adventure videos. I'd definitely go with a 4.7 v8 swap. The 3.4 is fine but even underpowered in my all stock 99 4runner. Couldn't imagine it with the large wind drag abd a few thousand more pounds.
By the way you have to crack open the throttle blade to do a acurate comp. test otherwise you're starving the cylinder of air. A cylinder "leak down" test will tell you much more about the health of that 3.4 then a comp test will. What do you mean "heads checked"? Are you pulling them off? My 2002 Tacomas original 3.4 went 375k miles before rod knock got it, heads looked perfect when i pulled em to sale (swapped in a JDM 3.4). If your head gaskets aren't leaking leave damn heads alone! Time spent doing a valve adjustment on the 3.4 will yield a much better sealing and running motor! Loved seeing the new winter beater.
I was wondering how you two were post trip, sounds like you have the blues that are so common after epic adventures. Know it all too well. You folks need to get back on the road sooner than later. And if this is your primary income, yup TH-cam is a treadmill that has to be fed daily. Good luck.
I’ve been watching you for a long time and love the channel! Also, I saw on one of your recent videos you two got engaged congratulations!! I was curious though how do you stay so dedicated to all of the builds!? Do you not have TV or distractions I feel like you guys are grinding 12 hours a day most days to get things done and I look up to you both for having such a drive and hustle! I strive to find more of that in my own life and you two are inspiring me and so many others I’m sure! It’s not like you are a racing team or work in a shop all day or perhaps this is your full time job? I’m sorry if you’ve been asked this before and I missed it!
Hey Ryan! Thanks for the comment 🤘🏼 we’re so stoked you’re here with us. We transitioned to full-time TH-cam while on the road, and haven’t turned back. So yeah, when it’s everything, it’s easy to get projects done knowing that said project should pay you (after the video is posted) haha! It’s not easy, but we love what we do!
One thing people do not do is check the valve springs pounds of pressure when collapsing the 3.4 is notorious for the spring, and losing tensile strength worsens when hot
Awesome work you guys! If you guys decide to not keep the diesel in the land cruiser then feel free to sell it to me in Sask! I'd love to ditch my 3vze, i cant abide gas trucks lol
Oh the indignation! The Land Cruiser faithfully served owners through the years giving it's body and frame to rust, only to be stolen and abused in it's old age. I know you guys will treat it like an old, abused hound that deserves to live out life with some love and dignity. I believe it is a normal reaction when returning from a trip to tear into modifying your rig to make it even better for round II. No doubt, Sunday will be much more suitable for the road when you're through with the new mods.
Awesome video as usual and that diesel 60 will be a fun little project. Apologies if you’ve covered this already, but what camera do you use? It looks great and keep up the great work!
Me: 380,000km wow thats a lot. Me again: wait a second, quick math in google 380k km is 236k Miles.....Now my 94 80 series with 246k miles is feeling really old. And the 92 pick I sold with 352k miles was apparently extra old. Both with no rust.
@@ToyotaWorldRunners My favorite conversion though is the 1994 Wrangler with the 1KZ-TE except for the automatic. Yuck. If you ever need help in any conversion hit me up. I will be glad to help. About to put a CKRA in my own 1998 Tacoma. Conversions is what I do. I am a long way away but sometimes advice helps. I have also done a lot of LS (GAG) swaps and a couple 1UZFE swaps.

LFG. This channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Becoming? Dude....what's the delay about?

I dreamed about my fj60 for like 10 years until I finally got it last year, those babies really have a soul, they stand wherever they are.
Yep! Instantly obsessed
12V Chinook sounds NUTTY. Put that one on portals 🤙

Definitely interested to see a swap! Compression numbers are generally better if you open the throttle while cranking too.

Have y'all considered one of those ebay electric ac kits for the hotter places? I'm about to try that on my first gen trooper
throttle wide open on compression tests for maximum air volume in cylinders, probably would have hit slightly better numbers
