The idea of a song that is sung for generations without pause is honestly beautiful. Creativity has certainly never been an issue with Doctor Who.
2:00 - The Doctor attempting to sing along while not 100% certain of the words...the geeky awkwardness that made the 11th so relatable to anybody who's ever missed their cue or jumped ahead while singing along at a Christmas eve carol service.
MaxPointy When you're singing "Happy Birthday" to someone but you don't know their name so you gotta sing lower to hide your voice so you don't sound stupid. XD
Do you think the parasite woke up because of him singing wrongly? Maybe ... 😉 And the poor girl thought it was her fault ... typical. If something goes wrong, just sacrifice a helpless child - But as I understood the episode, the Doctor and Clara finished that thing off.
The music in this episode is perfection
It really is beautiful. And this little girl definitely has (or had) a potential career in music.

Gotta love the brilliant foreshadowing of lulling the "old god" (the 11th) to "rest now" while encouraging the "new god" (the 12th Doctor) to appear and "wake up"

When Matt started singing I have to admit to having a flashback to Jon Pertwee's Doctor who had a fine singing voice, and who, if he were here, would have started singing in full volume! :)

Definitely an underrated episode, sometimes it's wonderful for the emotion to speak for itself rather than action

Great episode, but the resolution with Clara's leaf was very weak.
The entire life experience of the doctor is not enough but Clara's memories of her parent's somehow are

The point is that all possible potentials are greater than any one series of experiences.
@@arturofernandez4058 to be fair the leaf thing isn't a bad idea but I don't see how the sun survived eating the doctor's memories. The only conclusion I can draw is that when he started monologuing it stopped eating which is just embarrassing

Those lines are to the Doctor as he regenerates, you know? The same melody is playing.

Seriously, this episode was much better than people give it credit for. An amazing speech at the end, all right, but it's more than that. Clara gets actual character development, it establishes the Doctor personified, and has a great supporting cast.
The Chorister's voice is fabulous! So touching
She does have an amazing voice. I don't know how I feel about the guy's voice.
Cassandra Frey I'm not sure about the guys voice too but the girls voice is just amazing and the doctor Matthew Robert smith is just the hottest guy ever.
Rhiane Persaud she's kinda off key but it's very pretty. very beautiful.
Maybe one of the best episode of Matt Smith's era. I think the speech would have been perfect for his regeneration.
The lullaby is an absolutely gorgeous song. You can just feel the emotions in the song. Also I really liked this episode too. ;-)
I loved this episode. I do agree that Moffatt had a tendency too lean to heavily on The Doctor giving a grand “I’m The Doctor be afraid” speech as a way out. It is powerful and effective but something that should have been used more sparingly.
But this was a beautiful episode and this song hits me in the feels every time.
You know, sod what anyone else says. The Rings of Akhaten is my favorite episode of all time. It has a great story, wonderful style, beautiful music and fantastic performances from all involved. I know I am in the minority, but I just love it! ^_^
I suppose that is one of the beautiful things about Doctor Who. No matter how disliked they are by fandom, every episode and story will have a fan! (Yes, even The Twin Dilemma!)

I absolutely loved this episode, it was beautiful, and I'll be forever grateful for The Long Song. That is my favourite music from the show, I can't listen to it without crying.
The speech in the episode make me cry every time it's amazing. I think this was one of Matt's best performances as the Doctor.
I love this episode and I only just found out that Emilia Jones who played Merry played the lead in Coda, which won best picture at the Oscars! Look at her go

Doctor Who is NOT JUST stories people! It is ART! That is why some of the most hated episodes are overlooked cause the fans focus on the story and NOT the art! THIS episode is an example of an underrated episode. We like this episode for THE ART not the plot. Same for “In The Forest Of The Night” and The spiders on the moon episode. Some of you fans forget about what is really important about Doctor Who. Doctor Who is ART!

I always say this to people and they don't agree, but I think this is one of the most well-rounded and beautiful episodes.
This episode also shows more of Smith's incredible acting skills :)

Very first episode I ever watched which caused me to watch all of the New Who in less than a month and to hear a bit of this in Time of the Doctor was amazing!
I like this episode for the same reason I like the sensorites. They're more about depicting alien cultures than plot it's kind of fascinating.
The music in The Matt Smith's seasons will forever be my favorites of any television series.
I fail to see why this episode is dislikable. I bloody loved it.
I liked this episode, and of course the end was brilliant. I watched it after hearing so many bad things and just thought, "Why did people hate this? I liked it. It's colorful, funny, has an interesting premise, and lots of aliens and different cultures."

It's mostly because of Clara's leaf that ended up saving the day. It's mostly because people don't want to admit that she saved the Doctor countless times. Personally I like Clara and I loved this episode

In my opinion, this was 11's best moment. This speech was beautiful and is my best memory of Smith when he was the Doctor
That part where the little girl repeats "Oh god of, oh god of, oh god of..." makes me feel so happy inside, she's such a good singer

I think Van Gogh outshowed Matt in that episode. Sure it's one of the best Doctor Who episodes but it's not because of his performance.

I find it interesting that in most cases the doctor knows what something is but in this episode he's trying to understand by reading a pamphlet

I loved this episode and I do love the story...especially the humour.
I saw this episode when it aired and I've just finished reading Ursula K Le Guin's 'Tombs of Atuan' today. I haven't found anything that confirms it, but this episode has GOT to have been inspired by that book, surely?

Even though I don't like Doctor Who as much as my parents, Merry has such an angelic voice!
I thought Clara was able to defeat the parasite because of the potential of the leaf or the randomness of all life. Now I think she won because that leaf represented the beginning of a life that'll live countless times to save the doctor through out his time line.
I didn't love this episode, but what I found interesting was seeing how they created the aliens. The creature that walks past Clara at 3:08 is adapted from a costume for the CBBC kids game(ish) show Mission 2110. It's a show I remember really vividly, due to the overarching plot, and the masks were worn by the characters Shades (lowkey Cybermen as slaves) who freaked me the hell out as a kid. The main robot villains from the show actually recieved a repaint and made an appearance as the two robots in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. This series really enjoyed taking things from old shows.

Today is Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s birthday, and I just realized this song reminds me so much of his “Song of India” or “Song of the Indian Guest,” from his opera Sadko, especially Jussi Björling’s 1936 Swedish version of it.

some people might not have liked this episode. But i loved it for 3 reasons. 1. The music is amazing! there are few days when i dont find myself humming the music! 2. Matts speach and the leaf. 3. That sun, me and my friends have speculated that it is the same sun as in "42" where the doctor and martha are on a spaceship that is crashing into a sun that is actually alive, think about it ;D.

The only reason people don't like this episode is because of the leaf. Even though it's explained why it's so important people still want too complain about it.
I didn't like it for other reasons. Those guards just dissapeared when they weren't needed in the plot with pretty much no explaination

Just saw the ad for the new doctor who series. Looks awesome. I can’t wait for the new series.
I ... actually felt more sympathy for the giant pumpkin god o_o It was there before all the others; it might have been the only one of it's kind ... and if it wasn't, it must be extremely rare to remain dormant/conserve energy for so long at a time. Yeah, it ate the 'souls' of people, but if it up and left to find sustenance elsewhere, it would ruin their little asteroid world. So instead, they're safe and sound, around the floating corpse of the being that made their habitat possible.
this episode was totaly about the doctor , i mean the parasite is the doctor . the doctor says "they call him the old god. (Doctor sometimes is called a God). and sometimes grandfather ( he mentions eariler in the episode about Susan. his grandaughter, who called him "grandfather). also when he says his speech listen to what he says , hes describing himself

Honestly my favorite episode of the series
As much as I love The Long Song that comes later in this episode, I wish there was a copy of this first song as well, outside of a clip. The girl playing Mary is such a beautiful singer, and so is the man and all the people in the background. Really a shame.
