Hey Peter! This is Chris Farro (Past GoPro Employee that you mentioned in the video!!) I appreciate you mentioning the settings in the video and was so excited when you were mentioning it! (wish I got a callout for my YT though... hahaha!) Still a big fan of yours and don't miss a video; you have also taught me a ton in the past months/years of making videos! So thank you! Here is an updated "insider" tips section! I keep the video settings the same that you listed in the video except one change! I would recommend that you turn GoPro Color OFF now for better flexibility in coloring. The GoPro Color profile is insane out of the camera and I often don't need to color correct it much but stylizing to match other footage or to get a certain look can be really difficult with GoPro Color ON as it's pretty saturated and contrast-y. TLDR - if you color your footage, keep GoPro Color OFF. If you want very impressive color our of the GoPro by default, I 100% recommend GoPro Color ON. Other Tips! For HyperLapses, you should do a comparison on the different settings! The X30 yields MUCH MUCH smoother result than X15 and X5. So if you think it will be shaky, use x15 or x30. For HyperSmooth (no more need for a gimbal 90% of the time now!); you might want to bump up the ISO to 400 or 800 (otherwise at 100) if you don't have TONS of light. The smoothing process can give some weird blur if there isn't enough light. At night, i would recommend turning HyperSmooth OFF, you will get very blurry footage. Also, don't recommend using an ND filter with HyperSmooth. Sounds like a lot of "no's", but HyperSmooth has been a game changer in my filming and post processing; walking with a GoPro on a little stick is no longer shaky and totally useable for on the go vlogging. Favorite new feature on a GoPro in a long time! except maybe 4k60! SuperPhoto is actually pretty damn good! I've been very pleased with it and recommend turning it on for photos you are shooting intentionally (ie, framing it and shooting). For spray and pray situations (sports, .5 timelapse, etc), stick to .5 second timelapse mode. The camera does have increased RAM, and an overhaul on many of the software algorithms. That is where the stabilization, coloring improvements and connectivity improvements are coming from! Although a little improvement, it now has portrait mode for video! I find this pretty rad for shooting quick 15 second IG story videos. Export these with Constant Bitrate with target bit rate at 10-12 Mbps. That way it is small enough for instagram to not completely destroy it on upload! Hopefully this all helps and as always, happy shooting! Keep up the great work, Peter! :) Chris Farro
better for adding sharpness in post. If you don't do heavy editing. Like, color correcting, color grading then just leave everything on default and put gopro color on, it will still look great. But, when you know what you are doing in post. You want the image as flat as possible and you can make the image look even better/ more cinematic.
This is really good tips and realistic use case. I even like how you mention about the bit rate for uploading IG stories. The upload time always kills me with any footage. Sometimes it just fails to upload and I would have to re-render a new version.
I would love to try out this GoPro. Especially as a traveler it's great to carry with me the least amount of gear and with this GoPro you don't even need a gimbal. Definitely worth thinking about to buy it..
not so fast-I have the gopro 7 and sony and I never use the Gopro ever while traveling because you have to stitch long videos which are always broken down into 4 gb segments. With sony-even a 3 hr 4K video remains as a single file.sone forever
I appreciate these latest videos, Peter. It is awesome seeing you finding a new set up for yourself and looking to expand. It is encouraging to know that even those who have been doing this for years are looking to grow as filmmakers and bloggers.
Oh dude, I need the mouth piece for my 3rd camera view for my show. Would be the perfect over head rig without needed an overhead rig and give a first person perspective
One thing I have been doing for years - similar to the "mouth" mount that PM uses - is using that same mount but melting and wrapping a month guard around it making a modable custom-fit mount for your teeth. Similar to custom mouth guards. Works awesome!
“Pro tip”: you can take the front waterproofing element/filter off for sharper, cleaner footage (push in and turn it to remove it). Just make sure you’re not riding jetskis when you take it off, ha
Heyooo! I worked for GoPro for 5+ years and this is not sounds advice! The inside lens has a coating on it and exposing it to the elements like water will quickly degrade you camera footage in the long run. Keep that glass clean and replace it when it breaks, but i would not film with the glass off, especially in water...
Thanks Peter! I've been thinking about picking one of these up because I shoot mostly classic car videos and having my friend ride with me while holding the gimbal, the microphone and my DSLR isn't the most practical. I'm sold, thanks!
Absolutely Love your videos! I've learnt a lot from you. You've inspired me immensely in my journey to open my own travel youtube channel about Bangladesh 🇧🇩
I’ve never used a gopro before and I’m so glad i waited. We just got our hero 7 and we love it. Now we can vlog our life away and not have to worry about a carrying and storing monstrous vlogging rig.
Amazing to see you still stepping up your game with new videos Pete! Glad you're not getting complacent and saying "meh, good enough" in your editing...always fun and entertaining!! Keep up the good work!
Awesome, I’ve also never loved the gopro but maybe I should give this one a go, thanks for this Peter. Also Jon Snow’s doppelgänger saying “winter’s coming” my dream come true.
@Nocturne Records And its supposed to be that way. Its an action camera. Action is in the sun and outdoors. Thats where it needs to shine. If you want low light, buy something else.
Well said - great review Peter! As a rule with the GoPro, I generally say "Sunny or snow, you're good to go. Overcast or flat, going to eat my hat", lol :)
When you revisit it, use the new and old cameras taped together for the same footage and then side by side the footage for different applications... Time lapses, vlogs, etc. That way you can do the same edit on both clips compiled too.

Just picked my 7 Black up today. I had mine setup behind my hunting area and I was surprised it handled the fading sunlight better than the video camera I took out. Can’t wait to get more footage with it. WiFi only good for me up to about 35-40 yards. Disconnected once and I had to reconnect.
Just wanted to drop a comment thanking you for your videos. I discovered you page a little less than a year ago and it has brought fire back into my need to create. You and Matti do a great job at keeping it fun but getting across some good stuff to help people keep expanding. Just awesome content from old to present. Thank you.

As we all knew (and as you said here), you weren't a big fan of the previous GoPro models, so it holds a ton of weight that you said you actually like this one. Really might have to pick this one up after hearing all the benefits from all reaches of the internet. Still rocking the Hero 4 Black
Wow! The new GoPro Hero 7 stabilization looks incredible! Hyperlapses are easier than ever to create! Thanks Peter for sharing your experience with the new GoPro. Thank you for always inspiring creators to create the best quality content they can! You inspired me through your videos to start my own TH-cam channel! Thank you so much!
LOVE the TimeWarpse/hyperlapse feature so much. Always wanted to make them with my DSLR but they're too time consuming. And the stabilization is amazing, too.
Thanks for the vlogging tip about holding the GoPro in your mouth. I have a Hero 4 and I never considered doing that. I'm definitely going to try that on my next trip.
You are my idol Peter! I revived my dead TH-cam channel and used some of your techniques in my latest videos and people are already seeing me improve. Hope one day when I become more successful on TH-cam, I can meet you in person and have the honor to do a video with you! This might get buried in the comment section but oh well, still wanted to thank you :)

I am seeing GoPro as the Canon of the action cam world. You still buy it for certain things, but there are companies with better price-to-value ratio available 😅
@@nickjonesrc I personally use Xiaomi Yi. You can get one for like 50$ and does record in 2K or 1080/60 with possibility to set it at 50mbps bitrate. For me that is unbeatable value to price ratio. Then there are for example Mobius or Runcams which are great for FPV or zoomcam applications. Night Eagle 2 with 0.00001LUX sensitivity for night vision applications. GoPro is good but not holy grail for everything :)
Great video, I do everything with the 6 atm and it’s not the best. It freezes and is hard to get the footage off. I will be getting the 7 very soon after watching this
That happens with the 7 as well. Its something about the stabilization. Get the 5 is much better in everything and no freezing. Even the footage at night is better with 5. Unless u want it for the hyperlapse then go for it
I have the gopro7 black and the hero 6 black. Its a real improvement and filming in 4K 60 with hypersmooth stabilization blew my mind away. The videos from the gopro 7 black are very crisp and good if you shoot in the morning. There is some vibration stabilization issue at night but illuminates the area pretty well. Some softness but not too bad. GoPro definitely stepping up the game
Peter! can you do a camera challenge? like for example shooting a photo or video using action cameras, cheap cameras or toy cameras. I think it would be fun.
We shoot video at dance music events and have been using gopros since v2, we've used the 3+, 4 5 and 6 Black editions, we were going to buy a gimble but went for the 7 instead, we were blown away with the stabilisation it's an absolute game changer, thanks for the settings tip, however, iso100 limit maybe not so good at music events, must try it out next time, and YES, the audio is so much better 👍👍👍
I'm pretty busy this week but I will check out your videos around Thursday! I saw part of your first video on your page and was intrigued! Added to my watch later list.
Sold my 6 for the 7. It arrived today in the post and I must say it looks and sounds like GoPro have finally nailed it even if it did take them 7 attempts.
The video is awesome! The camera is awesome as well, the only problem with Hypersmooth, which I noticed today is when you get water on the lens, you can see the hypersmooth working. Thanks Peter, you have made me understand things so much better with photography and cinematography!
I think GoPro stock just went up. ; ) I love my GoPro7 and for the type of videos I do - it's amazing and stable and I no longer need to wear a very awkward and bulky gimbal to get buttery smooth MTB footage. Shoot on color profile flat - and mess around with the white balance. You'll be surprised at the quality. Looking forward to your recap of everything you've shot with this little guy.
Only tested my Hero 7 Black in a few different situations but so far so good. I will really put it through its paces next month on vacation through Vietnam and Cambodia.
Thank you so much for talking about the audio! My gosh, I can't believe how so many people avoid talking about that. For the videos I make, I need good audio. Gotta be able to hear the commentary as well as the sound of the tires on the ground on my mountain bike. I'm curious if the thing still gets hot when recording at high frame rates and high resolution? As for the chest mount, you should get yourself an Evo SS wearable gimbal. It mounts to the chesty (or in my case the Stuntman chestmount) and then the GoPro mounts to the gimbal. Super smooth video at just the right angle. Thanks again for this review, Peter! -Brian
I have hero 6 for a 10 months and I made more than 30 vlogs and two shorts movies. I am so satisfied with quality of video, stabilization, photos... For audio I am using rode mico go. And it's awesome

GoPro is good but not holy grail for everything :)
It's pretty funny that my whole channel is based on holding the GoPro in my mouth since two years now and you just made me realize that again. haha
100mbps micro sd card and the freezing will stop
@9:03 "Snowmobile season, sled season" I was waiting for "Hockey Season" , but then realized.... it's Canada; it's always hockey season.
i click the second i see this notification
Keaton same 😂
Peter! can you do a camera challenge? like for example shooting a photo or video using action cameras, cheap cameras or toy cameras. I think it would be fun.
Way too much movement at the beginning for the low Bitrate of TH-cam :D
you mean low bitrate of GoPro
I love the intro going through the trees!
How are you liking the #pmgridchallenge entries?
Amazing!!
Energy at the end was bomb
What software are you using to edit your Gopro footage?
They come really far into this great small action pack GoPro, by far best small camera with awesome accesories
Did he ever announce the winner of the Canon mirrorless camera? hmmm
Ah, the classic “no views” and countless likes. #notificationsquaddd
You do realize many people click like before watching the entire video right?
I like before watching too haha
Kishan usually happens to me, but because no one sees my videos 😂😆
I'm pretty busy this week but I will check out your videos around Thursday! I saw part of your first video on your page and was intrigued! Added to my watch later list.
Kishan dude thanks so much! Means a lot :)
Sold my 6 for the 7. It arrived today in the post and I must say it looks and sounds like GoPro have finally nailed it even if it did take them 7 attempts.
Wait...so you paid for that Hero7, but GoPro sent me one for free... I feel like such a king right now 🤣🤣 awesome video man!!
The video is awesome! The camera is awesome as well, the only problem with Hypersmooth, which I noticed today is when you get water on the lens, you can see the hypersmooth working. Thanks Peter, you have made me understand things so much better with photography and cinematography!
You still have the Polaris assault 800, Peter?
I think GoPro stock just went up. ; )
I love my GoPro7 and for the type of videos I do - it's amazing and stable and I no longer need to wear a very awkward and bulky gimbal to get buttery smooth MTB footage. Shoot on color profile flat - and mess around with the white balance. You'll be surprised at the quality. Looking forward to your recap of everything you've shot with this little guy.
I think I'll buy the GoPro Hero 5.
Thanks Internet Explorer.
This comment is making me more confused now!
Wouldn’t you be better buying a GoPro Hero (2018) and installing the firmware hack that basically turns it into a Hero 5?
I gonna get a Yi Cam because My wallet can actually afford that xD
Only tested my Hero 7 Black in a few different situations but so far so good. I will really put it through its paces next month on vacation through Vietnam and Cambodia.
Anyone else too broke to afford a GoPro?
No
I am :-D
I'm too broke to afford a cheeseburger.
Lol that’s me
you can buy them at bestbuy and finance it over 18 months. $30/month isnt that bad.....
I can't wait to be able to get one of these. The mouth mout point is a great idea. That's pretty much where it lives on my motorcycle helmet 🤙🏼🛵
Settings at 1:33, just thank me later.

“Hyper-lapse the hell out of life” 🤣
Awesome video 👍
I have hero 6 for a 10 months and I made more than 30 vlogs and two shorts movies. I am so satisfied with quality of video, stabilization, photos...
For audio I am using rode mico go. And it's awesome
