My new favourite TH-cam channel! No stupid music, no silly cringe/humour talking, or unnecessary verbal babbling, no begging for likes, etc., etc. Just a man fixing machines. Brilliant!
I'm 58 years old and I consider myself a pretty decent mechanic... I gotta tell you, this kid's got a pretty good set of skills under his belt. I've watched a handful of his videos and he seems to know a little about everything. I hope he sticks with it and I hope his channel grows.
One of the many things I like about your videos, is that you don't edit out your mishaps och failiures. That's how we turn self confidence into encouragement: "If such a skilled man makes mistakes, then I too might try something difficult."
I had an 82 f250 same powertrain in high school only in blue exterior/interior. I bought it for $500 and beat the ever living tar out of that thing. It still ran like a sewing machine til it lost spark. I didnt know mechanics so well at 17 & didnt have any place to store it so i ended up junking it. Now i know it was likely the dura spark ignition box or module. Wish i had that old girl still today almost 25 yrs later...Thanks for helping bring back the memories!
What % of mechanics would've quoted a client $1000s for a rebuild without doing what this dude did? This is an excellent video, very educational, love your content Simon, keep it up.
Wow ! It’s actually not easy to find someone to work on a carburetor- I’m shocked someone on the younger side can ! Now that I think about there isn’t even a ton of people that can drive a manual anymore !
I’m 58 and spending way too much time watching your videos. Love the cat too! I marvel at everything you know, your workarounds, etc. I’m not a mechanic but wish I had the skill set. Love how you bring these relics back to life!
I had a 88 F-250 with the fuel injected 300 six and the HD granny 4-spd. We heated exclusively with wood back then and I cut all of it. I could load the bed with green oak and hickory all the way up to the top of the cab and overload a 16ft trailer behind it and the truck just didn’t care. I imagine if a state trooper ever saw me he would have thrown the book at me. It was so simple to tune up and change the oil in too. I got into a serious financial bind through no fault of my own and had to sell it. I’ve missed that old truck. I have a 3/4 ton Chevy Silverado with a 5.7 SBC in it but it’s not the work truck that old Ford was.
Just found you and subscribed. I am 48 years old and have saved a couple of vehicles people were sure were "dead" myself. So awesome to see a young person like yourself doing the same. I hope I can get my sons to watch and be inspired.I can't help but wonder if you had some schooling in mechanics, as some of your fixes are more technical than they appear. If not , you have an amazing mechanical gift, keep doing what you're doing and good luck!
dude, more good stuff! I'm working my way backwards through your vids and loving them ... you're definitely encouraging me to dig into some of my older vehicles
Dude, your videos are the best! I drove one of these old Fords, the brake lines and water pump exploded the same day. Overheating and rust ended that truck. Love the Yamaha too. Keep up the great work my fellow Minnesotan!
great channel, congrats to your skills an hw you produce your videos. no annoying music or talks, just technique. It's great to follow your logic way of solving problems including commenting your own failures. The best was bending the rear axle of your ford when ist was not straight. Stay ahead and greeting fro germany
Yeah all of those old fords sound the same as i had one for years and the worst thing for them is to sit and not drive them foot on the floor and those straight 6 300 you just can’t kill them the body will fall off and apart long before the engine dies i have literally pulled 4 full hay wagons and a load of firewood in the back and she loved it mine was only a 2 wheel drive but i had tire chains and i would go places that 4 wheel drive trucks couldn’t but yeah you have a good old truck give it some Lucas and a oil change and run her wide open and she will love it lol find yourself a good body and frame and you can swap it over but otherwise you have a good truck for work or whatever you want it for especially because it is 4 wheel drive put some 44 mudders on it and run her in the mud she will take it
I fell in love with the ford straight 6 after I worked on the '78 f150 that's my channel, knew I had to have one. I'm definitely going to be putting this thing through the dirt and mud soon enough.
My last Ford was the 1986 with the 3 in the tree the last year they did the 3 in the tree straight 6 Unfortunately it rusted away But it was a reliable old truck.
Simon I watch your videos, man I love the way you fix things like No problem,I started looking the one with de red gran torino You are good, hope you read my coment.
I loved watching your work here Simon. What a great revival. I didn't figure out what the cure for spark knock was. I have never heard that phrase. Many of the things you did here, were the kind of jobs I watched/helped my Dad do back in my younger days. I was never going to be the kind of ace mechanic he was. Anyway, I will try to look up spark knock. So happy it turned out that the engine is a good one in this truck. It's a great truck right? I love the straight 6, 4x4, and then two major creature comfort items that look factory, AM/FM and A/C. Super cool truck. Thanks again. I will keep watching.
Another day with a fine video of a hardworking & smartworking dude. I don't work on old machinery but your videos are still giving me ideas about keeping my workhorse at its top performance.
you know what makes these videos so good is it shows the everyday dignity and passion of a person doing what he likes....its what a good life is all about.....good stuff....
You are an amazing mechanic. I had a good friend of mine that God took to soon he would put a broom stick to the engine and he would tell what was wrong. Thank you for this video. God bless
Those 300 six were excellent engines with great histories. As long as they had pretty good compression, they would run and run. I was so pissed when they quit making that wonderful reliable engine.
I Simon, I too have a 1983 Ford F250, but mine is a SupaCab with the 351 Cleveland 2WD. I am in the process derusting it lol. Hope to see more on this one. Cheers Peter from Oz
I found your channel when this specific video popped up in my feed. I then went back to the beginning of your channel to start watching all of the videos in order. I love that you show your mistakes and struggles like the rest of us. Great cinematic shots/angles. Just suggest adding more lighting in future videos.
Thank you. Yeah, I’ve been trying to figure out a good lighting setup. That’s one of the reasons I work in the street in recent videos, good natural lighting.
I just watched Red Bears Garage do what you did to same 2bb Motorcraft carb. However theirs was still flooding or running super rich. You saw is dripping fuel inside the carb. They equated it to needing a new intake gasket. I have the same problem and need to do a carb kit. This video is super helpful!
I got a 1983 ford pickup I had my brother put another motor in it because the other one was blown I sure love that best made ford truck and wouldn't own any other brands of trucks
Sounds kinda like a diesel, almost 12 valve cummins esque. That and the lack of idle clacking makes me very glad the noise wasn't the engine self destructing.
When I rode a motorcycle in cold weather I would put on latex gloves first and then my leather gloves. Latex gloves will totally trap in heat (you will get sweaty hands) but they won't be cold at all. I did the same thing with my riding gear. I would wear a PVC rain suit (which doesn't breathe at all), thereby trapping 100% of body heat. I would be sweaty but toasty warm.
Nice work! You must be a cat-man, I think that is 3 different cats I've seen at end of your videos. Cats are the best, we have 2 now, lost our 16 year old yellow guy on labor day.
With the base timing set correctly, the engine would spark knock under light-mid throttle (when the vacuum advance kicks in). Without the advanced connected, it didn’t knock at all, so I adjusted the advance down some. With factory components, the vacuum advance was probably set fine. I think there are other issues causing spark knock, maybe lean running. It’s something I’ve been meaning to look into further. Limiting the vacuum advance is more of a temporary fix. Hopefully my explanation makes sense
So all that from spark knock...way too much advance.. good job. I was wondering when it was cranking jerky like that. At least you got the vented cap. A wet cap will pull that trick on you too.
Wanted one of these since I was a kid. Only reason I haven’t bought one yet is I have no clue what I’m doing, and I’m all on my own. Think I could still manage to figure out what’s wrong with one of these if I bought one? lol
I haven't quite decided to go that route yet. My goal is to turn bolts and make it look satisfying, and do my best to explain only visually. If people would like an explanation on a specific thing, I hope they ask in the comments and I'll do my best to answer.

I'm so glad a young guy like yourself is interested in working on old machines. We need more of this to start happening. Stay the course brother!
Thanks!
I think by doing what he us into, he protects the environment by minimising wastage.
Good job on your editing. Great nonverbal communication and humor.
One of the many things I like about your videos, is that you don't edit out your mishaps och failiures. That's how we turn self confidence into encouragement: "If such a skilled man makes mistakes, then I too might try something difficult."
Well said.
Great camera work and editing. Thanks for not killing us with the real-time unscrewing of hundreds of bolts.

Thanks for sharing your experience with practically the same truck! Sounds like you at least got your money’s worth out of it.

I finally found this video after admiring your 300 replacement video. So now i know its backstory. What a cool old truck.
I love this channel because there is no bullshit talk, real-life mechanics work and by the way, he is excellent at what he does!!
The video quality is top notch , all the best with the channel .
Enjoy your videos, you have a talent for capturing your work in a compelling manner.
I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said, except SWEET XS400! Cheers from NH.
Thank you!
I had an XS400, this is a an earlier 360, same sweet 180 firing order motor family.

Wow, clean the plugs and rebuild carb and sounds brand new
Those 300 six were excellent engines with great histories. As long as they had pretty good compression, they would run and run. I was so pissed when they quit making that wonderful reliable engine.
5:57 Riding in the cold. God bless you. That’s something I just can’t do anymore I’m too old for that shit.
My first truck was a ‘63 Ford F100. It had a 240 6 cyl 3 speed on the tree. Granpappy to your truck.
Very sharp
I am really enjoying watching your videos. Well done, fella. True inspiration!
Those were the days when you just climbed in with the engine to work on it. Great channel.
It sure liked that carb kit.
Dude, just keep doing it !!!
I once had a 1985 F250 300 six in line and manual gearbox. A strong car that was practical. I liked the car very much.
Growing up had a Vega / two stroke. Was low on oil so added some 80/90 gear oil. Ran fine.
I love the 300, my favorite engine.
Those 6 cylinders 300s are my favorite
Great channel Simon, now I want to swap my current 3.5 eco boost crap for a 300 with a manual
Watched the fixing up and old truck vid first. Then came to this one. Great content. Watching the work in that carb 😮 immediately subbed.
Rock on!

I got a 1983 ford pickup I had my brother put another motor in it because the other one was blown I sure love that best made ford truck and wouldn't own any other brands of trucks
Never saw someone lock there keys in a motorcycle before, that's pretty funny!
Congrats great old school style!!!

I had a e150 van 1992 with 300 six 334ooo miles still ran good when i sold it tough as nails
I agree, nice job, you have a new follower, Thanks
"Tow truck" is not in this guy's vocabulary . I like it
Essa Yamaha 360 é uma moto muito boa. Tem 2 estágios no carburador. Quando abre o 2° vira um foguete 😂😂😂, não é verdade Siman?

Hey, great video. Could you please explain how you knew that adjusting vacuum advance was needed?
With the base timing set correctly, the engine would spark knock under light-mid throttle (when the vacuum advance kicks in). Without the advanced connected, it didn’t knock at all, so I adjusted the advance down some.

Love how he sees no oil on the dipstick and then proceeds to drive it anyway 😂
I had a 71 CB 450...thing was fast and a tank...I crashed it too many times to count on old cracked tires...hehe
Knew it was a 300 as soon as i heard it sounding like a diesel. They are loud. They rattle. Put thicker oil in youll be alright
