I think Milan Lucic and the Signing with the Oilers was pretty Bad
In fact, the Oilers between 2012 to 2020 was the dark ages for me and other Oilers fans

Huberdeau has to be on there, 100 point player to 60 and 52 in 2024. Not good

In 2017, Karl Alzner signed a 5-year contract with the Montréal Canadiens to win a Stanley Cup. That year, the Capitals won a Stanley Cup and the Canadiens fell to the bottom of the league. He was eventually bought out of the last 2 years of his contract.

Loui Eriksson scored in his debut with the Canucks, in his own net. Absolute legend. I can look back and laugh about it now but Benning's tenure was some dark days for sure. The man loved handing out 6x6m contracts to aging players.

Neither Parise, nor Suter were Minnesota draft picks. Both of them were FAs

Lou Erickson, first game for the Canucks. His very first goal for the Canucks was in his own empty net (delayed penalty).....signs of things to come for the next 5 years with the Canucks (he was traded the final year of his contract).

Looch was bad, but had a couple decent seasons. Campbell didn't even have a couple decent games

Honestly most things him Benning did was a complete disaster.
    Having a 9 mill 4th line.
And OEL was just as bad as Lui Eriksson 😅😅

Loui was the man in dallas and was solid in Boston, he fell off real quick with the Canucks

Backes was 32 not 35 when he signed with the Bruins. Still a bad contract, but to be fair to Backes he did get incredibly unlucky with injuries/health.

I think Suter was more of a problem in the locker room than Parise, but considering both are friends they had no choice but to buyout both. There were no issues with Parise when he was with the Islanders or Avs. I remember hearing in a podcast where Mike Fisher talked about how bad of teammate Suter was with the Predators and how he wanted top minutes with Weber. Wild will still be in cap hell next year when $13M gets freed up thanks to Guerin handing out bad contracts to old vets.

I think that armchair adventuring only goes so far, and anything said by anyone should be taken with a grain of salt. Just because you lace up the skates doesn't make you a GM. This goes for anyone and everyone, not just you. That being said, GMs have a bad habit of ignoring career totals in favor of a single season in which these players actually bust ass to produce. I wouldn't sign any of these, or most, players simply on their inability to play consistently. Big money being thrown around in desperation is what leads to these kinds of bad deals, and these are licking the tip of the iceberg, if we're gonna be honest.
Let's see them stop paying 5 million for a potential 20 goal scorer, and stop paying 8 for a middling prospect, all because they had one good year when their contract was expiring. Learn from the mistakes of the past instead of simply repeating them because you cannot keep your hand outta the cookie jar that is rigged to shock you when you put your hand in.
