    I've had my 2015 GTI for 3 months and it's truly a remarkable car. It literally does everything; park it anywhere, drives like a bat out of hell, put tons of stuff in the hatch, and gets mileage exactly as advertised using 89 unleaded. Awesome.

    The two most important pieces of information contained in this video are :-
    1) Emme isn't fussy, and
    2) Roman got his end away in a Ford Escort.
    That's what I like about TFL, they provide the stuff you NEED to know !!!!!!

    I own a piano black Focus ST, but I gotta say... VW is really impressing me as of late. I used to drive an 08' WRX but it had some reliability issues. But WOW the Golf R having 290 hp and awd? Definitely torn between that and the new STI for my future weekend car.

      And for the first time in a VW the stability control can be turned off completely. At least on the european versions. So another interesting detail for the keen driver :-)

      ***** Must have been shitty previous owners bro sorry to hear that... I had to replace the transmission and upgraded the clutch on my old WRX before I sold it; of course I bought it used. That's why I buy all my cars brand new now. I was a bit weary of Ford at first but hey, my Focus has had no problems so far in my year and a half of ownership with 35k miles.

    Emme you are totally right. The difference between a two door and four door is vast. For me it's possibly buy the two door and not possibly buy the four door. I love the two little Fords except they're four doors. While they and the four door GTI look good from from front and back they look really bad from the sides. People always say four doors are more convenient. I don't see how coming up to a car and opening the back door to put stuff in and then closing that door and then opening the front door to put myself in is more convenient.
    I will admit that for those who carry passengers a four door might might be helpful. Kind of like how automatic transmission sporty cars are good so that paraplegic driver can have some fun.

    Enough with the manual vs. DSG. I've had both. A few years ago automotive journalist just couldn't get enough of the paddle shift transmissions. And most of them sucked. VW made one that's actually the fastest DSG in the world and they get no love. WTF?

  • @juancargts

    The Fast Lane Car You can rev SOME VW models that comes with a manual transmission. 1 put the parking brake 2 turn traction control off 3 press the clutch pedal and don't release it 3 engage first gear 4 press the accelerator (keep your foot on the clutch pedal)

  • @dennismills4862
    @dennismills4862 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As with all other reviews I've seen concerning the Golf MK7, you never touched on how the car's cruise control behavior has dramatically changed with a manual transmission.
    The standard behavior has always been that when you shift gears the cruise control is disengaged until you select "Resume" or "Set." In the Golf MK7 (but not other VW models) when you let out the clutch after a downshift, the car will zoom back to the cruise control's set speed!! The change in behavior is as dramatic as if a car manufacturer decided to resume the cruise control speed when you release the brake pedal.
    Do professional car reviewers never use cruise control in manual transmission cars?? Do they never downshift to slow the car while entering a sharp curve?
    That said, your review was very entertaining and informative, even though I drive the relatively sedate Golf Sportwagen TDI SEL with 6 speed manual. And yes, I fell head over heals for my wife when I learned she not only loves to drive a manual, but can also drive a combine.

    They talk about the launch delay, but make no mention that the delay is due to tooling up the Mexico factory to produce for the USA. The USA GTI's are spec'd down in terms of equipment levels when compared to those from Germany. Some of the images suggest a slightly lower quality of materials in use too. And where's the performance pack with its tricky diff?

    The more I watch this review, the more I'm liking this girl. Just don't see too many girls these days who like the stick and 3 pedal combo :) and yes, a DSG is an automatic, as far as i'm concerned. I mean, it does have an automatic mode, which means you can drive it as such if you choose to. So what if technically speaking it is not a standard automatic transmission, and you can intervene in the process of shifting and it affords you faster times? I just get a smile on my face people try to sell anything with less than 3 pedals as manuals simply because it has a manual shifting mode (which really is just flicking a paddle or moving the gear lever up or down).

    There is not only a lot of VW products you can't get in the US. There are also tons of VW products you can't get in Germany either. Especially in China and Brazil they offer all sorts of cars that we in Germany never even heard about. But I really can't understand why they wouldn't sell the up! in the US. You see it everywhere over here and I am sure it would find customers in big US cities. Especially the e-Up!... And it might help adding a bit of "funky" to the VW image in North America.
    Will they bring the Golf GTE to the US? It's not even out in Germany yet, but the first Journalists drove and loved it. A plug-in-hybrid with near GTI performance...

    • @AkioWasRight
      @AkioWasRight 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like to see cars like the Scirocco and Up! go on sale here, but I think a bigger problem is we get cars so much later. I've been following the new Golf and GTI for way too long now. By the time we get these cars, they feel old. How can VW not see that as a problem? Excitement fades by the time the cars are launched. Also, dragging their feet makes it look like VW believes the US market isn't significant. VW is really showing itself to be clueless about the US car market.

    • @morbvsclz
      @morbvsclz 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well they have stated that they know they need to be stronger in the US in order to achieve their goal of becoming the largest car company in the world. But I don't really understand the strategy with which they try to manage that.
      They did a great job in China, Brazil, Russia and other emerging markets and all over western Europe. But it seems like the people working in the US division are the village idiots of the VW headquarters...

  • @davidd881
    @davidd881 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    To comment on why Europe gets the new VW models first. I can only think of one thing and that is lawsuits. Auto manufacturers know America is sue happy so probably they try to iron out all the bugs before we get the vehicles. America is probably the largest market for these vehicles so it honestly doesn't make any sense to wait a year to ship it to us. Good review these folks have a blast driving and their great attitude towards cars and life makes the video fun to watch.

    • @LlyleHunter
      @LlyleHunter 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The US is not a large market for VW. They are not selling well here because of the Asian competition. Americans don't view them as practical because of their high maintenance costs. But you are correct that VW always waits to iron out the bugs before sending new models to the US. If a new model debuted in the US with problems in the US market it would be the death of that model.

    • @bluecent65
      @bluecent65 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because the US models are manufactured in Mexico. Apparently the rest of the world outside of the USA regards VW as an upmarket brand. So these cars have been down spec'd and built in Mexico to bring the price down.

    • @LlyleHunter
      @LlyleHunter 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Burt They haven't skimped on quality and as far as the US cars being built in Mexico they may have been downgraded in horsepower some cases but not content. The quality is still the same, save for the Passat as we get a US only model because we require a larger model but remember that people today have less to do with building cars than they used to and robots do much more of the car. Besides,the employees in Mexico have the same ability to stop the production line as those in Germany if they detect a problem in the manufacturing.

    Who in their right mind dumps the clutch above 4000 rpm? lol heck, I do about 1500 in normal driving, and if I go 2000 or just above, that's plenty enough for a spirited (or as some might say - aggressive) start. Anything more than that, and I get wheel spin. And all this is not in a 2015 GTI with all that torque, but an '04 SVT Focus that's significantly less powerful than this car here (and the traction control is not fully defeatable).

    Manual VWs are not worth it. The automatic has a 0-60 time of at least one second faster then the manual. Automatic DSG transmissions are better and faster then any human could ever be.

      @PinoyShuffle 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Bruce Solomon Ad hominem is appealing to someone's unsubstantiated beliefs or feelings, not to what is logical. It's like calling "rich" banks "powerful" and "evil". It might whip people up, and maybe many people agree with that, but it's not necessarily accurate.

    Emme I like you but you were a bit short sighted and childish in this review. 1. 4 door looks better and is more practical. Hatches look better when they appear stretched ala 4 door. Not to mention its eaiser to throw crap in the back seat. 2. For all your shit talking about the DSG - you fail to recognize its a HUGE competitive advantage for vw. I owned both a manual 2dr autobahn mk6 and dsg mk6 gti and the DSG was definitely the better car as a daily driver. The GTI itself represents a compromise of performance and lends itself to the dsg. If you really want pure performance, why in the hell are you choosing a gti? (for what its worth I own a manual fiesta st now).

    You guys don't get the polo, amarok, and up, whyyyyy? :O, they are not exclusive to europe, we do have them in Mexico, I love to polo gti, to bad that you can't get, but I'm not sure why :/ by the way in Mexico you can also find another vw brand that makes amazing cars, seat, I love the seat leon cupra, Does anybody knows why we do get those brands and cars in Mexico and USA don't get them?

      We do not get the up in Mexico either, but we do get the vw polo, seat ibiza and seat toledo with a 1.2 tsi engine and a 6 speed manual transmission or a 7 speed DSG

      Let me introduce to you the seat ibiza www.seat.mx/content/mx/brand/es/models/ibiza-cupra/discover.html, next time you Roman or Nathan talk to the VW people ask them why is it that you don't get this cars, I'm truly curious, because they are not exclusive to europe they do are sold in America, just not in the USA

      No, VW hates us. It's funny how they wonder why their US sales numbers are so horrid.

    Take a look at vw.com.mx and seat.mx and see what we do get in Mexico and you guys are missing

      Dude it's just a freaking Volkswagen. No we don't have the models you speak of in America but I seriously doubt most Americans feel left out because of it. Volkswagen's sales numbers suck over here anyway so the interest for these models is probably nonexistent. Having said all that I've always had a place in my heart for a GTI though.

      There's the answer I guess, you guys don't care about vw models, then vw does bring those models to America but not to the USA

      That's kind of racist, just so you know vw smalls cars like the polo or the seat ibiza, leon, etc.. Are not made in Mexico, they are made in Europe and sold in most part of America except for the USA of course, by the way the GTI you guys get in the USA is the one that is actually build in Mexico

      If they ever sell the Gol here, their sales will plummet even further.

    Just look at this beatiful car, and by the way it has the same engine that the vw gti but with more horse power, www.seat.mx/content/mx/brand/es/models/leon-cupra/descubre-cupra.html
