I test drove one of these the other day and the biggest thing I noticed was the handling. When you go around curves, the car doesn't turn along the earth, it rotates the earth on it's axis. My Ford Focus that I'm leasing, rolls sideways and I feel like I'm falling over. This just hugs the road so nicely. I've also driven the new Mazda3, which they say has excellent handling but the GTI was such a huge difference that it made me rethink wanting a Mazda3.
The performance pack is coming to America but not until about next February. They will start building it week 48 this year. It will have 10 more horsepower, the VAQ mechanical limited slip differential and 17" front disc brake rotors. There will also be an option for adjustable suspension.
Does the nav tell you to turn left at the next stop sign, light, etc. Or does it only say "turn left in 20 yards"? I don't like it when Nav's only tell me to 'turn right now' when it's too late.
Great review Richard. I rented a regular Golf for a business trip and was surprised how enjoyable it was to drive. I could imagine the GTI would be much more fun. This is coming from a Mustang GT guy, so I am definitely thinking the GTI will be my next car. Pure driving enjoyment.
Hey Richard, nice video! I have a question for you sir. I'm a fan of great audio sound in the car and how is the sound of the Dynaudio Excite, the 8 speakers and woofer? I currently have the Bose soundsystem in my Mazda 6 (from 2003) with 6 speakers and a woofer and it still sounds great. My next car probably will be the GTI Mk 7 Performance Pack and I'm curious about the soundsystem. Thanks
And 4 years later i have managed to get myself one, with the performance pack mind you so Golf R brakes, adaptive cruise control and eco mode as opposed to a sunroof. Wonderful car to have, expensive to run on petrol though, plus it burns through front tyres with the power it has, and that's comparing it to a pre-VAG-Gate diesel with more torque, tyres might be the issue though, budget Bridgestone tyres on a Golf GTi don't make sense.
i don't recall u saying what model this was, (i might of missed it) but is it the "S", "SE" or "AUTOBAHN" and if this is the AUTOBAHN is their anyway to get navigation on the S or SE models ????? I'm asking because i can't afford the AUTOBAHN model so it would be nice to get nav on the lower base models and having nav is very important to me. thanks
I, personally don't like the heaviness of some steering systems (ie. BMW) and prefer being able to flick a car about without so much effort. But there are obviously those who prefer the greater effort or BMW wouldn't tune their systems to be so heavy.
This new sunroof ugly This GPS ugly The last version of GTI It was so much better Only looks nice cuz the LED HEAD LIGHTS that's it I have a 2012 GTI & I have to say the it's much better then this one I'm thinking to move to R
Best review on youtube, no one even goes through the interface
In our 2002 Jetta the cruise control was on the left side, while the music volume and skipping were on the right.

This is the autobahn edition. As for navigation, from what I've read only the autobahn comes with navigation.

wow that voice input seems ridiculously slow to me....
do you know why Euro models get higher mpg (nearly 50) while U.S. models get lower mpg?
They use the British Imperial gallon for Euro measurements. The Imperial gallon is bigger - equals about 1.2 US gallons.
ah okay! thank you for the clarification
