Man don't worry about people saying you talk to much. You did good by explaining the process in detail and showing that it might take a few mistakes and tries before you can get it right. Most DIY's edit out the fails and leaves one wondering why they're having such a hard time doing it cuz the video made it look so easy. I watched two other videos and I couldn't figure out why the spring wouldn't stay still. Watched your video, and the key inside lock made a huge difference. Was finally able to repair my lock. Thanks a lot for your help!

This morning when I put the key it freely can turn it theres no force holding. I ended up removing my big subwoofer in my trunk to open it from inside lol. From Cali
You almost got it perfect. After you insert the spring, you gotta twist it about 180 degrees clockwise and then compress it. The tab should catch on the opposite side, and then pushing it down with the pin will be easier. Your way might work too, but the key will not return to vertical after you lock/unlock.

all these videos on how to do the replacement. but no one ever shows or says how they got the car door opened in the first place to replace the part. no point me trying to fix this issue if i cant get the door opened.
@@oowop420 I had same issue. You can buy a new battery for your remote and install it. Then use remote to open door. The tricky part is that remote was not designed to be opened. BMW made you buy a whole new remote. But there's a utube video that shows how to pry open the remote and replace the battery.
Hey so I came across a different issue, the cylinder part came off, where the key goes in, I will lock and it will unlock the issue is when I try pulling the key out the whole cylinder of the key comes off. anyone have he same issue or a solution?
Ive tried this twice now and have cocked it up both times. The 1st time it all just locked in place and i couldnt get the key out without breaking the holding plate and taking the bits out again, the second time the key would go in and out ok but didnt seem to turn more than about 90 degrees, the lock also wouldnt then fit back into the car door like that for some reason. What i noticed is both times i did it the circular holding plate turned aswell and i couldnt turn it back so that it couldnt be slid back out again. Anyone got any advice?
This happens if you use the other small part. I am not sure why they ship the part used for the right hand drive. I happened to me as well. I tried the other small part with the notch facing right and it worked.

For the future something so simple you should put it together first before you do your video so you can show people without taking them through your learning process

Open the trunk, use the seat release latch (there are two on the underside of the trunk)and push the corresponding back seat...crawl inside.....

It is not a kit per say. It is just a "door lock and tumbler set for the BMW E46" search for it on eBay or Google and you will find it.
I have the same problem as dan finn, i can only turn the key 90 degrees when i got everything back together :( anyone know what i do wrong ?
