- Removing, repairing and refitting a broken door lock cylinder on a Volkswagen Polo Mk4 9N. If the key doesn't turn at all or it just keeps rotating without opening the door lock, then one or more of the internal parts of your lock cylinder are probably damaged or broken. This repair process is similar in many other VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat cars from certain years. Check with your car’s manufacturer to be sure. The cam inside the barrel is the part that usually breaks. I carried out the repair with the cylinder in my hands but it would probably be easier clamped in a vice, if you have access to one. You can buy a repair kit online for a few euros/dollars. I would advise keeping your locks lubricated to prevent them from breaking in the first place. Thanks for watching. For anyone watching this, who actually plans on fixing the lock themselves, and thinks that it is fairly easy as seen on the video, dont let it fool you. If you can spare the money, just buy the whole lock. If not, then make sure you have nerves of steel,and DEFINITELY bring another pair of strong hands. It is absolutely impossible to not want to tear your hair out. Anyways, I managed to do this with help after about 3 hours of frustration. MAD props to the author, the video is immaculate, and also huge respect for assembling this thing alone

Thank you very much. I just replaced the cam on my 12 year old Gol. I've seen how to assemble it, however while i was in the middle of the action i notice i didn't know the proper orientation of the cam and where the spring sits (once loaded), so i end up in your video. Great explanation, production and of course skills.
I would like to add that sometimes the new cam doesnt have de proper diameter. In my case it was around 0.08 mm smaller but it was easy to fix with a Dremel.

Did you replace anything or just take it apart and put it back together? I have a problem when i unlock it it works fine but if i try to lock it it keeps rotating indefinetly. Should i order repair kit before trying anything or could the fix be just to reasemble it?
I just took it apart and put it back together to demonstrate the process. If it keeps spinning in one direction it sounds like some internal part has worn or broken so it's it's up to yourself if you want to order a kit before disassembling the lock to check.

Otra cosa importante es al menos en mi caso
Cuando te llegue el repuesto mide las piezas por si hay diferencia, y montarlas sin la presión del muelle comprobando que encajan, en mi caso toco lijar alguna pieza para que pudieran encajar sobretodo la gfupilla o pasador última pieza del montaje

What happens if you don't keep the handle open while you're undoing the Tork screw?
The locking ring could pop off and fall inside the door frame, which can be a lot of work to retrieve and refit

Thanks. It depends on which part of the lock is broken. There are plenty of videos on youtube showing different methods of opening car doors which won't open from the inside or outside. I haven't had to do it myself so I can't really advise you on that.
I have another type of door lock for my Golf v 1K1 I can not even find to buy...and it*s 1cm longer (102mm) what shall i do ?
But what did you change the cam the spring or tailpiece? (Or all)
I was just demonstrating the disassembly/reassembly process but it's usually the cam that breaks.
Is this applicable to a Volkswagen fox too? Mine just unlocks and doesn't turn to lock, it feels like it's stuck.
