Excellent video with great detail! I ran into hours of problems because on the 2nd middle piece for the left side driver. The proper side left side for my car in the United States was not to spec in the center hole and so I didn't think it fit, and thought it was for the right side and so I went for hours trying to make the right side work and it would only lock into left or right, but not both. I forced the left side piece on to the center post and it worked perfectly! I finally did a visual check for the cutout on the broken piece and realized I was using the right side piece. Cheap manufacturering with low specs tricked me into thinking the left side was the right!
Watched at least a dozen other videos through my parts across the room screamed then watched your video and actually could SEE and follow what you did ...and it worked ...thank you very clear instructions and video I appreciate this thank you.good work 😊
Thank you very much. It think I was in your position just before I decided to make this video. I gathered info from various sources to put up this detailed video. So, happy to help. 🙂
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!! This was literally the only video I found where the lock was put together the correct way. Following the other ones, I always ended up with a stuck key and so needed to break the entire lock again. Thank you again for your work!
You are welcome. :) I understand your excitement since I was searching TH-cam my self and did not find any good video on the WHOLE process. That's when I decided that If I ever will put the lock together I will make the video my self. Cheers buddy. :)
Before video.. was hell tryna figure out how 2 do this an not having a metal tip pen.. lost my original spring it flew 2 twice. Found it 3rd it gone!! After oh an broke a little off of the new spring .. after video 5 minutes very smooth easy lol Ty for great video.. I'm glad my spring is actually working hope it hold up lol..
Excellent video. The pin with the replacement kit has no chance of fitting and mine apparently fell out, and I couldn't locate in bottom of door. Used a coat hanger where I slightly ground some material away with a bench grinder. Was able to fit snugly into the clip holder's pin hole. Be sure to clean the parts you're re-using and lube with grease.
I haven't bought the stuff for this, but my son's key came out with the part and we need to repair it. I need to order the parts and will follow along with this video.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Man, I was watching another guys video and he said it would take 5 mins, me 1 hr and a half later. He didn’t go into detail at all like you did, telling us what to align and easy to follow step by step tutorial. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Thank You!!! And keep those videos coming.
Check if the lock is locking the door while lock assembly is removed form car. You can do it with long screwdriver. Next up is to check between each of the assembly steps if the key is still turning both ways. That's how you can pinpoint where is the problem and then solve it.
Hey is the first part at 1:42 necessary? because i lost the thing and have ordered the new parts but by the photos im guessing im not receiving that part that im missing
Yes. It lock the metal plates in place for the key. The plates determine if your key is right one for the car you are trying to loc/unlock. So yes it is necessary. Please order the missing part and you'll be good to go.
Thank you. Yes the parts differ. You can see the part that is different on 2:50 Usually when you buy a rebuild kit you should get both of them so you can choose which side you are fixing, but you have to check with where you buy the parts.
Did you need a key to remove the cylinder out? Or can you remove the complete cylinder with no key? Mine seems to keep spinning and doesn’t want to come out I need to retrieve the cuts from the cylinder to make a key.
@@tommyherrera6456 Ah wooow. What a tool. Did some digging. Verry interesting. So you lost a key? I wonder about the ignition. If you recreate the key you can open the door but still can not start the car because of the immobilizer, right?
@@mr.matissCorrect lost all keys. Used lishi hu92 to retrieve the key cuts, then I programmed the key to the vehicle by removing ews. Forgot to tell you I’m a locksmith
Great detailed explanation. Am sure I got one of the many different things (key barrel, 3 rings, last of which is different for L/R-hand drive, stem) that needs to be the right way round wrong and managed to rotate the key to a position where I couldn't rotate it back to the original position to be able to extract it. Nightmare scenario with key and lock barrel permanently united and neither useable but happily managed to extract the key from the barrel by part-sawing through the U clip with a hacksaw from above and then breaking it off with pliers (the U horseshoe clip had rotated so the closed end was blocked from being pulled off the final stem by the main lock body). Lucky the repair kits (including horseshoe clip) are so cheap, around £3! :-) Btw did anyone have issues with their convertible soft top retracting and windows coming down randomly when turning the key in the broken barrel? That was my original nightmare with the car fully open to the elements and public, no easy way to close the top (roof close button flashing red) and rain on the way! Actually, thinking about it been a nice car to drive in the Summer but no end of dramas too :-D
For me? Close, but no cigar.....You have the best video on TH-cam for this. I have a RHD model and am following your instructions to the letter with the exception that the second housing used is for RHD. Once put together, the key only turns quarter way in one direction only (to lock the car, but cant open it). Any ideas?
Make sure you align everything as I did and while you do so, try to move the key both directions to see at which moment it is getting stuck. When you put the key inside the barrel 1:12 you should be able to turn it 360 degrees. Then step by step you assemble it and keep checking if the key still moves +/- 90 degrees. Hope this helps to pin down the issue.
Happy to help. Though I think I missed the terms vice versa. So to be sure I was setting up the tumbler for car that have steering wheel on the left side of the car if you would be sitting in the car. 🙂
I think no the metal.itself will not rust. If youbreally want you can add few drops while assembling. Mine was greased from factory and good to go with orieginal grease.
Another Er46er passing on their gratitude. You’re a star. Many thanks.
Happy to help. :)
This is the best video for this subject because it starts at the beginning and show all the orientations. 👌
Great video and very clear I just fix my lock you just save me 350 dollars using the pen for putting the spring was so easy thank you!!!

Dude, nice work. Tricky. But locking it in place and using the pen work a treat
ya habia visto 4 tutoriales pero solo este se ve bien cual de los 2 repuestos hay que poner, gracias

Using this and another video on how to move the cylinder pins, I was able to to adjust a new aftermarket lock to my existing key. Thanks, dude!

Excellent video!
Any idea is the internal parts are the same on E60?
Great.
I have no idea since I have not disasembled tumbler on E60. I bet google might help.
Managed to reassemble and fit into the door. Only problem is that the key is locking the door, not unlocking it! Help!!!

How did you get the notches from the key cylinder to line up with the 2nd part you add for the tumbler?
What time it is in video?
Good video. Is left hand and right hand have different parts?

I think you need the key to be inserted. Otherwise it is locked inside.
