    A very insightful analysis of Roman history and its mythical roots.
    As for the rivalry between Octavian and Antony, I have read that Antony claimed descent from Hercules: therefore, the view that the Hercules/Omphale myth was used as a slur against Antony might possibly have some weight. I am no Classical scholar, though, so I shall defer to those who are.

    You know, when you mentioned the servant Hercules myth, I figured the Augustus propaganda element would be as an attempt to mollify the fears of tyranny by presenting Augustus/Hercules as a servant to the Romans so obedient he would obey even the most insulting of demands while still acknowledging the strength and conquest in his past, which kind of fits with the change between warlord and ruler theory.
    Also, a little note about the editing--the video cuts off in the middle of the word "keep" in the "remember, books save lives so keep [reading]."

    Better help in kind of a scam, a lot of professionals AND customers have a REALLY BAD experience with them. Stay prudent if you’re using the service !

    • @CinziaDuBois
      @CinziaDuBois  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Myself and seven friends all use it and have never had an issue. can you please provide evidence of it being a scam?

    • @maledictionwolf
      @maledictionwolf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@CinziaDuBois I wouldn't call it a scam, but there are some major issues with the service--specifically privacy issues.
      While there is confidentiality between the psychologist/therapist and the patient, BetterHelp is a third party as it is essentially a texting service and as such not bound by doctor-patient confidentiality. At the time I was considering using it, their privacy policy only referred to doctor-patient confidentiality and did not cover the third-party communications, meaning that while your therapist is required to be confidential, they (BetterHelp) are not. This may have changed, so I suggest you read their terms of service and privacy policies to see if you're comfortable divulging private information while using their service.
      Additionally, by using text messages, your phone service provider or internet service provider can access your messages and conversations with your therapist, and whoever owns the phone account can gain access to them with no restrictions. Literally all they have to do to see your "private" messages is to call up the phone service and ask to see them. While this may not be an issue for most people, if you are on someone else's phone plan (eg. a shared family plan) that person can call up the phone provider and request your text logs, which will include every message you have sent via Better help, amongst others. This is extremely important for people who may be in the closet and whose family do not know, as it could result in them being forcibly outed as LGBT+, potenitally rendering them homeless and even endangering their lives. Individuals living with abusive partners face the same risk. Law enforcement can also access call and text logs without a warrant in most cases, so anyone in recovery or dealing with drug-related issues is in danger as well.
      Additionally, therapists with BetterHelp are generally treated poorly by the company, although that may have changed in the last few years. I don't remember my source for this, unfortunately, and again, it may have changed in the last few years.

      @saulemaroussault6343 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CinziaDuBois
      I don’t have first hand experience about this but : it’s kind of a scam in that they aren’t responsible for anything (stated in their TOS). They’re technically not even responsible for providing therapy - they provide contact with people who provide counselling and it’s a different thing. If something goes wrong, if the therapist lied about being fully licensed, if they never respond or keep cancelling or drop you out without a word or harass you via personal email after you ended the relationship, or if you get someone who claims to be lgbtq friendly and tries to put you through conversion therapy (yes all of this apparently happened) they’re not responsible. You can opt out, yes, you can ask for another match but what you paid will not be refunded. BH has a set word count per week on the therapist side, so if the therapist gets to the count they have to choose between not responding and working for free. They’re often not very well paid so a lot of them don’t stick around, and you can be stuck waiting for a match while paying, multiple times, and then be told you’re not a good match for their services.
      The things they advertise for are absolutely not guaranteed, and they basically don’t care.
      Also they’ll sell your data, everything, if you don’t go looking for the option to tell them not to.
      Some people have a great experience of the service but it’s more thanks to the therapist than BH I think. That’s why I said to stay cautious, instead of just not be using it ever. If you have a great experience with them good for you :)

      all the concerns about Better help that took place around four years ago were debunked pretty quickly (here’s a good video that covered it by Dr Grande; th-cam.com/video/wMyblEeu_TQ/w-d-xo.html), but people hold onto old drama and anger rather than look into it being debunked because that doesn’t suit their agenda. I’ve been using it for coming up to two years, and seven of my friends use it. none of us had have issues - all of our lives have been positively changed thanks to it. But our experience isn’t as valid as angry internet people from four years ago jumping the gun apparently.

All I can find online is Better Help saying online therapists cannot prescribe any medication as they are not licensed MDs and therefore cannot. I can’t see an article where anyone is reporting this is a problem on Better Help. As for selling data, I’m afraid that’s a problem with a lot of companies, but again, I can’t find any evidence that BetterHelp sell data, though there’s evidence to suggest it is shared (much like your cookie preferences on a website, you TH-cam and Google data, etc). Sponsors aren’t something I take lightly, and I’ve refused many on the basis of clashes with my ethos, such as 23 and Me which I think is far more harmful. A lot of people promote 23 and Me and no one bats an eyelid despite the company keeping your DNA on record and sells it to second party companies which I think is much more serious a crime that no one seems to discuss.

    This video is an anachronism. Propaganda was invented by the Catholic church centuries later. Loosely translated from Latin "spread the faith".

      Just because the word didn't exist doesn't mean the thing itself didn't exist. That's like saying no one could have been gay in the ancient world because the word homosexuality didn't exist until the 19th century

      @@CinziaDuBois Huh??? How did my comment become homophobic? Our understanding of what propaganda meant changed all through the twentieth century. Originally was defined as a means to spread Christianity. Then used by public relation experts to rehabilitate reputations of wealthy companies and individuals. It wasn't until the Nazis used Edward Bernays' methods it to sway public opinion did it take on a negative connotation.
      Perhaps the modern term (even if a little hackneyed) is gaslighting. Also propaganda in common usage usually refers to state spin and not private entity spin such as religion or business embellishments. IMHO

      @@CinziaDuBois I understood your point. My point was that the term propaganda as we understand it today is only around 90 years old. What is interesting is that you are as picky on details as I am. However I consider myself quiet normal. No matter what your personality type or tendencies psychiatrists can find something wrong with you. When the Rorschach test were first published they found most of the population had low self esteem. Of course Nietzsche figured that out decades ago referring to most people as sheep and only a few as lions. I was thinking about ordering the shirt from Amazon with the statement "Your First Mistake was thinking I was one of the Sheep". Anyway you have a nice TH-cam page. Not often does owner of the page give me this much attention but I feel honored.

    I wish people wouldn't mix Ancient. Greek Myths and History with the Romans
    All the Romans did is freaking copy and loot every thing from Greece and called it Roman
    There's no such thing as a Roman Hercules
    There's only one Heracles and he was a Theban Greek from Thebes.
    I'm sick and tired of Rome Rudi g the coat tail of Greece

    I enjoy your content, but I feel like there is a black/white bias with some of the videos. Things mean things to different people, and it shouldn’t be so much about proving and disproving whole works, rather than finding the crumbs of truth and putting together knowledge.

    • @CinziaDuBois
      @CinziaDuBois  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      …may I ask what conclusion I drew in this video that made you say I’m biased? I presented several scholarly theories about the relationship between Hercules and Augustus and didn’t even conclude one myself. How is that biased? I didn’t prove or disprove anything here. I literally just discussed how people have drawn correlations between Augustus and Hercules, both ancient writers and contemporary scholars.

    I really liked the video, but I would encourage you not to accept sponsorship from Better Help. They've got a problematic history, and they tend to leave a lot to be desired. From what I understand they perpetuate revolving-door therapy, which is extremely frustrating.

      thank you, but as someone who has used the service for a long time, it’s rather frustrating to hear people who have t actually used it perpetuating the same falsities about the service that trended around four years ago and subsequently got debunked. I don’t see why I can’t promote something that I’ve only had good experiences with, and my friends have all had good experiences with, because of some controversy a few years ago that was, as I reintegrate, debunked. it’s nothing like a revolving door therapy, and as someone whose life was saved by the service, I find comments like this that aren’t based on personal experience dangerous, as it discourages people from trying a potentially life saving and very affordable and accessible therapy resource based on rumours

      @@CinziaDuBois I'm glad that you and your friends had such a good experience! And I can see why you would want to promote something that has saved your life. However, personally, I don't thank that it's right to use that to discredit those that have been hurt by these services.
      Wishing you the best, I'll leave this conversation now.

    Really like viewing your videos but one thing that annoys me is when you give PC correct interpretations of the past. A rule of historical research is that you can't judge the past by present day standards. When you talk about Roman masculinity and a couple of other points, you're doing just that. You're making a subjective interpretation of the past. How can you know anything of Roman masculinity 2,000 years later? I have read many historians who psychoanalysis people from the past. They're historians and not psychologists and they weren't born with the psychology gene. You can't do therapy on dead people. As I said, I really find that off-putting in your videos.

      I don’t do PC analysis of the past. I make jokes about their views. that’s all. it’s not that deep. If you’re too sensitive about light hearted jokes, the internet is not the place for you

    betterhelp has been proven to be a horrible service to both users and therapists, is a sponsorship really worth promoting a potentially dangerous service? unsubscribed.

    • @CinziaDuBois

      I've been using it for over a year and a half, and my friends all use it. None of us have had bad experiences. There was a thin a few years ago when Better Help was in controversy and everyone got rid of their sponsorships with them, but then that was debunked. Even Philip DeFranco recently spoke how he regretted his rash reaction to something which was fabricated and blown out of proportion. There's no proof to those claims and that scandal was debunked years ago.
