Finally, a youtuber I follow that actually calls out those title scams out for what they are. Scams. Not only do they not give you any actual land, they’re also head by a a serial scammer known for similar shady sites and ads such as kamikoto knives, and deal dash. Those companies dont care about cultural sensitivities(selling heritage protected land. Faking japanese smithing) and they deserve to be called out. And on another note, this is one of my favorite channels for mythologies and literature and I just discovered it a few months back. Love the research, narration, and occasional humor.
The dispersal of Scots around the globe has put me almost on the complete opposite side of the planet, but I still feel most at peace when ocean winds caress my face. There is something ancient and forever in that bond. I don't think I could ever feel whole without it. Monsters or no, there's a little voice in me when I greet the sea that says, "This is it. This is where you belong."
Lucky you. My soul consantly reminds me that I can't very easily fist fight a crocodile or a shark while under water, and that's all I care about: suviving Hell.
Yeah :) and there’s something about bagpipes, Scottish/Celtic folk music, and the Highland Games that make me feel more truly alive and at home than I have ever been, I’m trying to slowly learn Scots Gaelic over duolingo right now, and I hope to maybe one day go Scotland, and see Dunderave castle from the water outside the grounds, so I can see the place my ancestors once called home.
We have a similar creature as the kelpie in Scandinavian folklore, Bäckahästen (the Brook Horse), but as the name indicates, is mostly connected to brooks and rivers and not the sea. It tries to trick children to ride on it so it can drown them in the river where it lives, and is sometimes thought to be a disguise for Näcken, a male human-looking creature who also has a taste for drowning people.
Thank you so much for making the point about the actual buying of our land being a huge negative point of those awful companies. There has been a lot of backlash against those companies because they are obviously a scam but, even if they weren't, you shouldn't be promoting a company that encourages you to buy up plots of our land! You are the only youtuber that I have seen that has mentioned that at all, I am so grateful Sending love from my bonnie country 😊
Oh god I loved this format! Your voice is super calming as always and the combination of the background music with the drone footage really set the scene for the creepy Scottish tales. Also your avatar-like illustration is sooo cute ❤️
Excellent, again, Cinzia. As a cousin across the great pond, I was unaware of the monstrous butchery, razing, pillage and theft of Scots by British barbarism. What a brutal lot those colonialists were (are.) Your art in weaving the plight of the proud Scottish clans within the fabric of Celtic folklore would make Lewis Carroll proud. 🙂
Wow, I wasn't expecting a series of horror stories more or less; I thought this was just going to be goofy stuff like The Loch Ness Monster. The story of the horse that dragged the boys under the waves really got to me, especially the one kid who was so scared he chopped his own hand off! The way it was told here was just...haunting. Like, it actually kind of scared me.
When you said Ivan was 7 when he first heard the singing but didn't investigate, then said it happened again at 14, I guessed the rest would be no investigation until 21 so that they could have 3 and 7, magic numbers, be part of the story.
There's a serpentine monster reputed to live in Okanagan Lake in British Columbia, Canada called the Ogopogo. I think much of the inspiration comes mostly from the Loch Ness monster and less from the native mythology it is reputedly derived from. Interestingly, Okanagan lake is long and narrow, much like Loch Ness.
I find the main problem a lot myths these days is they have been changed to suit the purposes of others. Something I read in a well researched book was the Kelpie often gets mixed up with water horse Fae. Sadly we have lost much of our traditional folk lore as it was often an oral tradition. Also I am glad you outed established titles, I had a feeling the where a bit fishy.
As someone who’s got a large amount of Scottish blood and who’s been trying to reconnect to my culture since the passing of my grandfather, who kept it alive in my family, hearing more about my ancestors and the history of their homelands is really meaningful to me and I appreciate you talking about these things greatly! Thank you so much💙
While I definitely enjoy the dark mysteries elements, I love that you first center the folklore into its historical context. I had never learned about the clearances of the Highlands in school so the history (and your rant about cultural insensitivities and scammy companies) are much appreciated.
Your channel is one of my favorites in this part of TH-cam. Though many of the subjects you feature are already familiar to some, your voice and the occasional addition of your personal takes make the experience unique. With that said, seeing your face in previous videos made it feel like I am in an actual conversation with someone, it was a nice touch I'm fine with whatever you're comfortable with.
You might be the only person I've seen actually break down the upheaval around the Scottish titles deal beyond 'they might not actually plant all the trees,' and you did succinctly in a video on mythology. That's not a complaint, it's a kudos and thanks. Also... Kelpies have long been a favoured creature of mine in folklore. They're just the perfect blend of beautiful, dangerous, and otherworldly.
Great video as always (I love listening to these while working on my art) and thank you for your honesty about sponsers such as Established Titles and not supporting them!
I'm glad to see somebody bring up how disrespectful established titles is to the Scottish people. Too many people endorse them and it gives me the creeps every time I see an ad for them. Great video too. Beautiful imagery of the highlands and very interesting subject matter.
Beautiful voice!! Thank you for NOT abusing your voice!! This is the voice of a 70 year old voice teacher. You have no idea how lovely it is to hear a beautiful voice. You could recite the phone phone book and I'd be tickled.
The Jacobite rebellions are more nuanced than your brief explanation. Large parts of the highlands were neutral or hostile to the Jacobites. Some of the worst persecutions of the Higland culture took place in Sutherland which actually provided many troops for the Hanoverian forces. One of the many factors for some clans coming out for the Jacobites was that the Duke of Argyle and thus the Campbells supported the Hanoverians. There are examples of families having sons fighting for both sides some calculating aristocrats were making sure they were on the winning side.
This was a delight, I know I've said it before but you would be so good for audiobooks! This format is also perfect for the upcoming span of faceless videos and I hope you enjoy being creative with it.
My aunt is scottish, and beyond what I know of her accent, and that she is...scottish, I don't know too much. Learning more about the history and stories there, hits. And adds to the scummy nature of established titles, that more people should be aware of.
I love the visuals and art you chose! Really fun exploration of Scotland. I can't wait to share it with my sister. She got her degree in Scotland and loves it there.
I feel... like the short story I have written about sea creatures could have been so much better, if only I saw this first. Well, maybe the next one :) I love this mythology series and also your storytelling. Makes me think, that you would be a perfect voice for audiobooks.
Fascinating about Nessie. I'd never associated Nessie with Kelpies before. Makes sense though. Excellent job with the images used. It took me quite awhile to remember why. As a Folklorist, I was very interested in your discussion about how it is defined. An unexpectedly moving video. OMG, I'm working on a novel about a selkie! Long comment. You kept saying things for me to respond to. 🤣
Such a mystically beautiful country with such a fantastic landscape, rich history and fascinating folklore. I would love to visit one day. That is so terrible how the indigenous scots were forced to leave their homeland. Thank you sooooooo much for making this and all of your excellent videos! Your channel is a true treasure
Being Dutch - a bloody lowlander for certain - I've been in love with Scotland for the better part of my adult life ever since Marillion's former singer - Fish - enticed me with his strange, yet powerful accent. I've visited the land of the silver skies only twice, but yearn to return. So glad I now know the story of the Selkies, which was unknown to me. It gives much more depth to the land that already had an almost mythical appeal. I wouldn't mind learning more about Scottish or Celtic myths and legends (CuCulhain possibly, the Irish Hercules?) And I'm glad that I'm now aware that these fake titles do nothing for the land or the ordinary Scots. I was considering buying such a certificate in the conviction it would benefit nature and people. (the title was of no concern). Sad this seems to be just another devious way to stop the desperately needed land reform and return the land to their rightful owners. Happy St.Andrews to you all. Slainthe math!
I noticed the 'Slainthe Math'. Not being raised in Scotland or Ireland but having roots in both I was taught 'Slainte va' and 'Slainte vor' as a call and response toast (to your health good and to your health better), but am unfamiliar with Slainthe Math (Good Salt?). What is the meaning? Why salt?
@@tarbhnathrac My fault, I see I've mis typed "Mhath" I'm not certain, but does that first 'h' make all the difference? Sorry for mis spelling; I'm far from literate in Gaelic (Irish, Welsh or Scottish, Cornish or Bretonic), but I do not mean any disrespect. I know the term from early on from a Marillion song, written at the time by Fish (Derek William Dick), a native Scot. th-cam.com/video/m35DdsuM5Oo/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=LucasTech He does seem to pronounce mhath as 'va' or 'wa.'
Yet another amazing video. I absolutely loved this "story time", I'm watching it as I am getting ready to go to sleep, so I may have lovely dreams about the Highlands and it's magical beings. Thank you very much.
Thank you for telling these stories and putting light on the horrible treatment of the people if highland. Not enough people are aware of these things or straight up just thinks it's not true
I love how you covered not only the folklore, but the modern holdouts and the history of the area that gave birth to the legends. I love the idea of the selfies being women in sealskin parkas and canoes, but considering how many “steal the coat/robe/veil of magical women” there are in the world, I doubt that’s it’s origin. Thank you for another lovely video!
Latter half of this reminds why it's so important that we eat the rich while we still have a working internet to organize. Corpos were corpo, even back in the day.
I wish to God that *YOU* would have made a short video explaining how Established Titles & Highland whatever *may be* donating to a legitimate tree planting charity (as in with every charity, you will never know how much money is actually given and how much the company takes for themselves for a company that requires little to no materials or overhead), but that the fact of the matter is that the reason they are even able to SELL all of these "souvenir" plots is because of inhumane massacre & unjust property theft. You are the sole person I have found that made the connection. Thank you for being the thinker that you are, I really love your channel.
Really great video Cinzia, i'm really nostalgic regarding scottish mythology because my mom bought me a book with myths and legends of the british isles. Your video gives me the same nostalgia as the books.
Established Titles is a COMPLETE scam! the company is based in China, so not even Scotland, and they only say they "donate" to organisations that preserve the nature of Scotland. :( Thank you for calling them out! And this beautiful video about the tales of Scotland. I enjoy your video's immensely and they give me so much inspiration for my illustrations.
The company is based in Hong Kong, which is technically China, but it’s similar to calling a Welsh person “English”. For herself, to my understanding, Ms. Yip, the founder, is at least British-raised, and has a law degree from Durham University. I would suggest that we leave out her origins as regarding this matter. It’s not relevant and only opens the door for racists to jump on innocent comments like yours that have no ill intent and twist them into something… less innocuous. ✌️
@@DneilB007 I agree. I forgot it was Hong Kong specifically, my bad. Sorry! 😓 I was just blown away by the fact that the company is located so far away from Scotland it self.
@@studiolovastra6845 I suspect that the company is based in Hong Kong to avoid some of the legal requirements for selling “souvenir” plots of land. If you haven’t seen it yet, go check out Legal Eagle’s take on this question (on their TH-cam channel). Highly recommended.
Fantastic video, I have sent to a few friends, I love seeing people talk about these myths and legends of my amazing country and your mentioning of the impact the real history has on the people of Scotland was really impactful, thank you for this, (Also I listen to the background music you are playing as I read or write)
Great video! Not having a camera to record yourself hasn’t hurt in case you’re wondering. While it’s always nice to see you, your amazing voice is key for me. Also yay for mythology, history, and cryptozoology.
Awesome video again I love learning about all of this history & mythology I did not know about the highland people either that’s really terrible what happened to them
This is so lovely and charming. I'm sure you wouldn't change the format unless you truly felt you had to due to nasty comments, but I will miss your face, naturally. But you've certainly made the best of it! I like your avatar and it would be nice if there were more images of her and she was onscreen more. Of course, drawing is time-consuming (and, if you're hiring someone else to do it, expensive) so that may not be an option. All the footage, images, and music certainly are lovely and I'm sure required a lot of work and editing. All the best.
oh yay!!!! I was waiting for this part of your sirène saga!!!! Not Scottish, only some ancestry (I know there's a difference between ancestry and being raised there in the culture), but I'm really drawn to this lore more than others.
I don’t remember if this was brought up, but it’s interesting to me at least how Nessie has changed over the past 150-ish years. Prior to the public dissemination of the existence of prehistoric aquatic reptiles (like plesiosaurs) stories about Nessie were not inconsistent with the Irish stories about the ollpheist or the dobhar-chu (respectively a river serpent and a 10-15 foot river otter/dog chimera). It’s only since the broad public became aware of plesiosaurs and their ilk that Nessie became associated with the description that we now have burned into our psyches.
Great video and I love your channel. Very insightful view of Scottish history Only slight suggestion, and I feel so bad commenting this, but maybe check pronunciations next time. I understand the trouble with loch and Urquhart but Culloden is a historical site for all members of the United Kingdom.

Thank you for your rant about souvenir titles. This is something that made me uncomfortable from the first time I heard it, but I was thinking I was being overly sensitive.
Love your channel , Cinzia ! Always lovely concise & your diction to mein ear is a perfect definition of mellifluous : before I die , need to visit whichever neck o the woods from whence it came !
I’m not sure about the claims against them; but I’ve looked into the charities that they claim to support and they list Established Titles as one of their corporate sponsors on both reforestation efforts and on conservation efforts for current forests. If the charities are lying, they would lose their charitable status and the boards would be open to legal action. I’ve always considered them to be a gag gift that includes the twist of supporting charity. I feel good about supporting the charity, but the “laird/levedie” thing feels similar to a “drink like an Irishman” contest that raises money for charities. In this case, the Clearances was absolutely an attempt at genocide-one that was largely successful. I’m not sure if I would go as far as calling it unethical, but to me it certainly rises to the level of highly distasteful.
@@DneilB007 The charities have good rating, but the 2mil trees planted figure they are now repeating in defense is from Dec 2021 (per waybackmachine), and the charity that figure is from charges average of 25 cents a tree per their website -- whereas the certifake was 50$+ with a optional 8$ monthly "plant a tree" club apparently, and the land they bought was also apparently quite cheap (as far as I can tell, the owner of ET also owns landassets, a website that buys rural land that owners need to sell quickly). The other charity is 1$ tree, but they haven't published how many trees they have planted with them tmk. There's an big lack of transparency -- which as a private company, they are allowed, but sure does scream probably legal but scammy and misleading. Really interesting to hear a Scottish take on all this, I wish that was more being talked about in all this.
@@hefoxed I’m from Canada, but I’m one generation from Scotland (well, if you go back far enough, we’re Norse. Clan Gunn was founded by Gunnar, so…). I’d suggest that it’s better to support the charity itself rather than the business. More bang for your buck & no teeth-clenching about making light of the history & implications behind the business. To me, there’s unlawful, unethical, and ill-advised. They’re absolutely not the first, probably not the second, but (IMO) they are squarely in the third category. But that’s just my personal take.
@@DneilB007 I'm mildly Scottish but fairly distant, but more English -- both parents are English immigrants. We have one Lord Mayor of London in our history apparently, but known for his mess up -- there's old editorial comics and a wiki page purely about it lol (I don't really get the issue, something about not reading the riot act), my line doesn't need any more lords XD . I adopted two animals via WWF for my nieces, since folk keeps comparing it to adopting an animal -- it's so much clearer then what ET is doing and is directly to the charity, and the nieces get stuffed animals . I mostly donate locally to LGBT+ organizations as that's my direct community and has lots of need.
Oh sweet! A few days after Count Dankula's epic take on Nessie we get this video too! A double helping of Scottish Folklore?! Based. AND a minor rant about injustices perpetuated against the Scots? UNIRONICALLY BASED!

I’m part Sami/Finish and Scot - THANK YOU for mentioning our part it Scottish myth! And for using our actual, chosen, correct name for ourselves the - Sami people. Maybe you could do some videos on us, we are considered the equivalent of Native Americans for Europe.
I'm curious as to where "The Lock Ness" is. I've driven around several parts of the Highlands over the last 25 years. I've seen Loch Ness several times, but my maps never seem to mention any feature named "The Lock Ness".
It breaks my heart that we don’t learn about how we treated Scotland in school here in the UK. What’s the point in history lessons if we only learn the stories that present us favourably. Scotland is quite literally my neighbour being from the north of England and growing up not knowing any of the real history really effected how i interacted with Scottish people on political issues as a young adult. I had the false view that “if it was important I’d have learned about it” or “it must have been so long ago that it doesn’t matter anymore because I haven’t heard about it” but in many cases the poor treatment continues in different ways and has a lot more weight to it when you realise how long it has been going on for. I can’t apologise for what happened then because I wasn’t there but I can apologise for not bothering to listen and assuming what I had been taught must be correct for so long, for that part I’m very sorry because as I’ve gotten older one or the most important things I’ve ever learned is not to learn history exclusively through the mouth of the British. I’ve found that most Scottish people are happy to talk to you about it if you shut up and listen.
Thank you for not promoting established titles! And thank you for using your platform to tell people what a scam and how atrocious it is!
The Scottish, like Salvadoreans, are aware of how terrifying horses are

Your video gives me the same nostalgia as the books.
this is such a well made video! and came at such an appropriate time as I’ve been reconnecting to my scottish culture
I like this style of video almost like a documentary it looks more professional and almost like a podcast love your content btw 💗
Established Titles is a COMPLETE scam! the company is based in China, so not even Scotland, and they only say they "donate" to organisations that preserve the nature of Scotland. :(
Thank you for calling them out!
Sorry! 😓
I was just blown away by the fact that the company is located so far away from Scotland it self.
Regarding mini rant- You go girl!!!😊
Fantastic video, I have sent to a few friends, I love seeing people talk about these myths and legends of my amazing country and your mentioning of the impact the real history has on the people of Scotland was really impactful, thank you for this, (Also I listen to the background music you are playing as I read or write)
Great video! Not having a camera to record yourself hasn’t hurt in case you’re wondering. While it’s always nice to see you, your amazing voice is key for me. Also yay for mythology, history, and cryptozoology.
Awesome video again I love learning about all of this history & mythology
I did not know about the highland people either that’s really terrible what happened to them
Thank you so much for spending the time to talk about the Clearances.
I drew the avatar but I couldn’t get the other poses to work haha. if I have more spare time I can try again. my face will be back one day!
@@CinziaDuBois You drew her looking very sharp and you clearly are quite good at drawing.
@Lady of the Library ... and an accomplished artist too! So many talents!
Thank you for this video! I’ve always been fascinated with Scottish and Irish myths :)
I saw the Kelpies this summer! They're astounding in person. Truly gigantic...
oh yay!!!! I was waiting for this part of your sirène saga!!!! Not Scottish, only some ancestry (I know there's a difference between ancestry and being raised there in the culture), but I'm really drawn to this lore more than others.
I swear, the Lady's voice is on another level. 😍
love the scenery, art, and voiceover format
Wow, I am in love with that Inuit/seal woman theory. Now I am having a full romance novel in my mind with an Inuit woman and a Highlander man.
Thank you for saying that about established titles (not going to give them proper noun status). I knew they were a scam.
This was lovely, the added footage in the background was perfect
I love this format, it's really calming!
I love your channel so much! Keep up the good work
Thank you so much, I really appreciate you saying so
Also for those established title scans u can't even go to fee the plot u "own". If there is really a location it's already apart of a conservation
What a lovely closing!
She has dyslexia so she is trying her best. Reading sounds and letters are difficult. As someone who also has dyslexia. I have no idea how to say the "easiest" word you think is easy.
Not to be rude but she has mentioned it before and it is a soft spot and from personal experience, it is likely embarrassing for her too.
Hopefully this makes sense?
I don't think I have ever heard The Slasher quoted before. Very interesting post. Knuckaveen a Kelpie form perhaps?
One million percent worth the wait. Thank you. 🖤
A most soothing presentation 😊
Lovely format, thank you Cinzia!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely video today.Thank you for posting it.🤗
Thanks for this video Cinzia :) It was really interesting and I am a fan of the new video format!
I wasn't expecting a rant... I like it.
Very beautifully done with pictures and your velvet voice💞 💖
I bet you'll also enjoy Nart Mythology (maybe look for the golden maid as a starting point)
Beautiful video. This channel was a great wee find.
I really enjoyed this and all of your videos and I for one don't mind the voice over format.
I always had my suspicions about Established Titles. Are they really that bad? I'd like to learn more about this issue
@@DneilB007 I agree. Maybe not illegal but morally sketchy 😅
Thanks for this neat water kelpie video! 🙆♀️
This was a great and relaxing video thank you so much
I love the character you have chosen to represent you in the video!❤
the nucklavee is truly the stuff of nightmares
👏👏👏👏👏 for talking about clearances and particularly the money grubbing fake title business
Selki e is also in Icelandic folklore i would love if you made a video of icelandic creatures or folklore! have enjoyed your videos so much the music and your accent is so calming
Thanks for posting.
There’s actual a "Title" seller who use it as a way to get money to renovate an old castle!
I'm a hard believer that the Loch Ness monster DiD exist, we just hunted it to extinction decades ago.
Same with sasquatch.
