    You are correct. They literally chopped 2 cylinders off. Didn’t have to change much tooling and machining to do it. Cheers mate

      I doubt that - it's totally different being a hot V. New from the ground up. The hot V is what gives a flatter torque figure across the range, as the turbos are staged and not a turbo per bank on the outside.

    At the end of the day, we are stuck with the 300 series, it doesn’t matter who thinks the 200 is better. My personal experience is the 1VD is a dog, I lament the demise of the 1HD-FTE which is a far better ‘bush’ engine than the V8. The best thing about the 200 is there are infinite upgrades for it (which it needs) that were developed over 14 years of service. I’d like a 200 but I’m not paying A GR sport price for a late model, low kilometre GXL 200…

    Wow would be very interested in what Toyota has to say about those interior quality issues - that really is unforgivable especially with the premium that they charge. My 6 year old LR Discovery 4 has no rattles (seriously) and from all the Toyota hype I assumed that was a low benchmark. I commented on your previous post about the handling of the 300 which I drove twice in urban environments and they did not have KDDS, I have always hated the 200 series handling but it was always without KDDS so maybe that is the key ingredient. I have a deposit on the 300 VX BTW so this is not a LR vs Toyota inspired comment. Agree entirely re the payload comment very disappointing. The LR 4 is over 800kgs standard.

    Another disappointment for me is wheelbase is the same at 2850, and the 'real' rear overhang (the distance from centreline of axle to the centreline of the tow pin on the tongue - not where the plastic finishes) - will present the same problems of amplification of tow ball mass on the rear axle. Very average, Toyota, should be much shorter - like Landrover have done with Defender!. I quote "The front overhang is 920mm for the four carryover model grades, 935mm for the GR Sport and 945mm for the Sahara ZX. Rear overhang is 1210mm for all models bar the Sahara ZX at 1220mm". Yes it's 100mm or so less than 200 (good) - but gone no where near far enough, IMHO

    I am still of the view that, aside from the powertrain & Transmission- (where the 300 beats the 200 hands-down), the 200 series is a better vehicle overall.

    I have to comment, I had a 200 series for four years and loved it especially the engine. Ive had a 300 series since Jan and love it even more. Rueben I really enjoy watching you mate but it seemed to be a really emotive review. The 300 series engine is a weapon, ok not as powerful as my mapped 4.5 diesel in the 200 but we haven't even seen what the tuners can do to the 3.3 yet. I'm in NZ and maybe we have different spec's than Aus but my 300 has the new version of KDSS and it handles much better than the 200, tows my 3.5t boat better. Much better off road in the little I've done than my 200 series. I just don't get your review based on my experience so far. Apart form the single piece tail gate I can't think of one thing I miss on the 200.

    • @reubendolphin9984
      @reubendolphin9984 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon, Thanks for your feed back. We must have different spec vehicles. The Sahara ZX does not have KDSS here in Australia. Is your vehicle a Sahara ZX? As most people would be aware I have purchased all the vehicles I have reviewed so far. This particular vehicle has seats that rattle, glove box that rattles ect. It hasn't been the experience I was hoping for from Toyota so far. For a vehicle that has had so much hype surrounding it, I'm disappointed. We have a 4wding video to put out shortly and this one has plenty of positive in it though. Cheers

      @rueben I live on a farm and have driven dirt roads on a daily basis since owning my 200 series VX since new (2017). The seats in the middle and headrests have always rattled badly. Has done so since new and drives me nuts…

    • @simonmoran1995
      @simonmoran1995 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@reubendolphin9984 So over here we have slightly different specs I'm guessing, my model is a VX limited, I thought that was the same as your Sahara VX but maybe not. I don't have any rattles and our roads aren't too flash. Mate I loved the 4.5 but this engine is a peach. It tows my boat really well, yeh I love it. I mapped my 200 engine so I'll do the same with the 3.3 but it runs pretty well as is. Maybe you got a mickey. I see a lot of comments with people so set on a V8, rubbishing the 3.3 but the engine is a ripper. Like I say I loved my 4.5 V8 but it aint as good as the 3.3. Mate I love watching you on the different channels. You look like a good bloke to share a beer with. Keep pumping the vids out.

    Another fantastic video Reuben, top stuff. I certainly agree that Toyota has absolutely nailed some things in the 300, though at the same time, they have focused too much on weight saving which has made the 300 a bit "softer" in areas. If Toyota are listening to you, they will be able to make some improvements in future updates, such as beefier, more sturdy seats that don't rattle. When you're paying big money, weight saving and less quality over all is certainly not a good thing. On the mechanical/technical side, some things will be easier to improve than others. Hopefully they bring back the KDSS (even as an option at least) from the VX model upwards. In terms of making some things marginally smaller/lighter etc, such as the chassis, diff, light weight panels and the setup change to the rear suspension and so on, these are all things that contribute to more sway/vibrations on rougher or twisty roads. When people are paying big money, they want absolute top shelf quality and that Toyota toughness and reliability that has created the brand quality in years gone by. Toyota toughness and reliability has always been a key differentiator and certainly something people have been happy to pay extra for. Some of these light weight decisions has not done any favours for the big 300 and the Toyota brand in general. Toyota need to have a long hard think in order to bring the weaker areas of the 300 up to a level where they need to be. With everything they have learnt from the 200 and 300 so far, they have every opportunity to bring back some factory improvements, including the two piece tail gate (at least as an option). On a technical front, can the KDSS be fitted after market? I love your work Reuben and I'm looking forward to following your journey with the big 300.

      Range rover isnt comparable with toyota lc300 zx. The more comparable would be lexus lx. In my opinion,the lexus lx is a better buy than the lc but if you have the lc you will not be disappointed. There just a tnk feeling in it. The new lc is intended to be driven a s a sedan,lit feels sedan like and not an off-road vehicle(this is only applicable to sahara zx.)
