  • We've managed to get the LC300 upgraded with the new kit from Lovells for a GVM & GCM suspension and certificate upgrade. Our weights and payload capacity has significantly increased giving us more room to play with and peace of mind knowing we are safe and within our limits. We explain the different options at Lovells and what's involved. You don't want to miss this!

    Just to clarify with everyone, you do not need an engineering certificate if you remove the 3rd row of seats. We just had our new Y62 Patrol amended by vicroads. After the 3rd row of seats are removed, and the seat belts are either cut or removed entirely, vicroads will inspect and you simply feel paperwork out to go from either a 7 or 8 seater to a 5 seater vehicle. No engineering certificate is required. And no fee will apply. Hope this helps.

    • @JourneyUnknown
      @JourneyUnknown  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Brent, that's great to hear. Please also check with your state and territory as they do vary.
      The requirements for removing seats will vary depending on:
      the gross vehicle mass (GMV) of the vehicle
      the original vehicle category
      the new vehicle category
      which seats are removed
      when the vehicle was manufactured
      Where a seat has been removed, the corresponding seatbelt must also be removed

    • @brentwall9786
      @brentwall9786 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Victoria, it states that whenever you remove the 3rd row of seats, regardless of any gvm or etc, you must notify Vicroads and your insurance company. It's really not that big of a deal like many make out.

    • @JourneyUnknown
      @JourneyUnknown  ปีที่แล้ว

      All depends on the vehicle and what state you live in. Luckily, in your case, it was straightforward

    Excellent explanation of a really complex issue. I do like that you explained that this is dependent on what you want to use it for and that is something each owner needs to think carefully about before handing over the cash. Looking forward to seeing the weigh-in. Cheers.

    Another thing people need to research/ find out... is the roof load rating for their vehicle.... roofrack, brackets, awning, rrt etc, could overload your roof, thereby doing your insurance and warranty.

    • @JourneyUnknown
      @JourneyUnknown  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True, the roof rack capacity is determined by the brand of rack and fixing mounts.

    I fitted a Lovells GVM, GCM, BTC (4000kg, 7800kg, 4000kg) upgrade to my LC200 pre registration. As you say it's firmer but with weight it handles very well. Recently we took it over the scales with the van attached and the vehicle was 3360kg (10kg over original GVM). Total GCM was 6500kg fully loaded inc passengers.

    Great video, really glad I watched it. I had the exact same upgrade done last week and I hadn't noticed the black tape. Very poor by Lovells for such an expensive upgrade. I find it strange that they are so concerned with regulations in regards the reverse lights, but make no effort to level out the headlights.

We have purchased a 2023 LC 300 VX Landcruiser and pick up next Friday 6 Oct 23)- Then off to Lovells for the GCM Upgrade - Unfortunately Toyota do not support the pre registration upgrade anymore - So need to register and then off to Lovells. Interesting. I have just had JMACX do a 3800 GVM (with GCM cert to follow) on my GR. They will not do the upgrade without upgraded wheels and tyres and flares. The additional reversing light was located below the number plate and no black tape :-). They also installed additional CAT6 indicators and airbags. Substantially more expensive, however you do get control of the shocks from inside the vehicle so easy to adjust on the fly.

    Lovells don’t do the BTC upgrade YET as it awaiting final sign off. expected release date is 30.10.23. If you have the platinum kit 4200kg GVM, which I think you guys have, you will be able to upgrade to the 4.0T once it is released. Will just need another compliance plate and engineers certificate.

    Just had the 3800 \7300 done, it is great and ride is very nice. Fitted bar, winch, sidesteps, light dual battery and draw system and a replacement sub tank. Added new wheels 17x 9s with 275/70s and my weight with 167 litres and me on board was 2900 certified weigh bridge. As for warranty, if I over heat and damage the trans by towing Toyota will argue warranty. If I add a trans cooler or heat exchange system Toyota will argue about the warranty, despite the fact that that those options will aid the car. Same with suspension. Toyota have to prove that the actual mods were an undisputed cause of any warranty issue.

    A 2400kg axle rating on a 4200 gvm isn’t enough. Good luck with that. I recently weighed a three hundred with 250kg in the rear & only 250kg on the ball. It was at 2200kg on the axle. That was with no passengers.

    • @pata8167
      @pata8167 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine with a towball weight of 340kg and a rear axle 1.260 =1.600 still giving me 600kg with you want take the weight off the rear put a load distribution hitch on put more weight on the front
      My 300 with a ARB bull bar and winch and me at 92kg in the car the front axle is 10kg over weight with a GVM upgrade at the moment Lovells is definitely the way to go

    I understand that the 300 has an aluminium roof and there is no official Toyota load rating. You could do damage in off road situations and on corrugated roads.

    • @JourneyUnknown
      @JourneyUnknown  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Toyota have a roof rack rated at 125kg for the 300. Our rack is rated at 150kg with 3 mounts. They don't stipulate the roof loading. Although in saying that if they have a rack at 125kg ld be working with that number.

    • @JourneyUnknown
      @JourneyUnknown  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Nah, we've already had warranty issues after our GVM. Had it fix no problems at all. Like any mod - you'll only void your warranty if the mod caused the breakdown. therefore, Lovells has a warranty to cover any suspension issues.

    The other thing to consider is the risk you take with voiding your factory warranty.
    Toyota's engineers approve the weights and tow limits only to factory stated limits.
    If you have a drive train failure or steering/suspension issue they have the right to walk away.
    If you ask Lovells to take on the Toyota factory warranty and give you that in writing they will refuse.
    In effect you have paid $7000 for a set of springs and dockers and thrown your Toyota warranty in the bin.

    • @JourneyUnknown

    Good explanation guys, regarding the Luxury Car Tax - I've done my Lovells upgrade pre-rego, you mentioned Luxury car tax refund? How does one achieve this?

    • @JourneyUnknown
      @JourneyUnknown  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Matt, l believe this is done prior to picking up your vehicle through your dealer. Otherwise, if you are a primary producer or tourism opperator, you can claim a refund using the application for a luxury car tax refund - for primary producers and tourism operators form. This refund must be claimed within 4 years of becoming entitled to it. can be claimed back through the ATO.
      Hopefully, this helps 🍻

      @@JourneyUnknown thanks, I did check with my dealer, they said you cannot claim this (even though technically the vehicle is now a slightly different category due to the upgrade) unless you use it for the purposes you mentioned there. • @JourneyUnknown

    Something to consider: Defining your needs when purchasing a new vehicle may be a better option than adding all these upgrades. In this example, a light truck will negate the need to upgrade the factory specifications. The cost of added motor vehicle accessories always depreciate more than the base vehicle. Purchasing a higher spec vehicle in the first place may be a better financial decision. Cheers
