Thanks for your videos ! You ve convinced me to test building my own electric bike. I have upgraded my old road bike and got myself a good mountain bike with hydraulic brakes for the sturdiness and better ability to soak up bumps on the road. I’m going to change the handle bars for narrow ones, got a fat C9 seat and suspension seatpost, slick tyres, mudguards and a bit of storage… then I’m still hesitating between hub and mid drive… Hub seems really easy to install; whereas mid seems a bit fiddly for a noob… As long as I can cruise at 25-30 mph on my 15miles x2 to work, I’ll be happy.
How abt an update video on the products U have available and spec details of battery choices that are real world available and there estimated life. Also have U considered upgraded chargers that can be set to 80-90 % charge cutoff to extend battery life. ie: Grin tech ?
All my battery packs I build i started using bluetooth BMS. It's a game changer You have multiple options And settings you can change. You can set the voltage cut-off to what you want. The e-bikes I sell have this stuff as standard.
He used hot glue which you don't want to use. They will fall off if they get knocked. Not only that it looks like a bones job. Use the double-sided sticky tape you get with it For the sensor. And drill small hole for the magnet with little screw. Magnet has hole in the middle exactly for that.
Hi, Johnny, can you to a video about rear racks, (I converted my MTB to a commuter bike, and the rear rack that I bought is not suited for heavy loads.) Thanks
I don’t have the gear shift sensor on mine video above as long as you let up peddling before you shift it’s fine If chain line is off like mine was you need the Lekkie I used the 42 as John recommended and now it’s perfect
How about a Johnny N/O test with not electric, just your legs. This will give us a baseline on what is to be expected for a constructive comparison of performance.
What Do you recommend for pulling a trailer home made camper trailer weight about 150-250 pounds with gear and need bout a 100 mile range planning a camping trip on bike but with a camper
Some of the polygons I was looking at had a 10-51t cassette. Would that have extra crazy hill climbing power? What size of front sprocket would be good?
I'm converting a Polygon Xtrada 6 with a 11 speed, 11 to 42t cassette. Almost done with the build, I'm wondering if my chain line will allow me to use the lowest gears, I'm starting out with the Befang 46t chainring with a slight offset and see how that works.
If we wanted a custom e bike build with like a 3000 watt hub motor would it be possible from you? Or do you just build custom bikes with mid drive motors?
I put tannus inserts into my 29er. Use the proper smaller tube and let the inserts relax for a couple of days while laying flat. No problem just be patient and work the insert to make sure it's evenly distributed.
Longtime subscriber never comment much though. You have me thinking about converting my bike to a e-bike. Can I change the rim brakes to disc brakes? My bike is a hard tail without shocks.
Many have a BBSHD bike with rim brakes including me. Rim brakes stop fine. I have disc brake bikes too. They stop pretty much the same, the same comparing a stock rim brake road bike to one with disc brakes. The disc brake being better mantra is a myth. On my roadbikes and on my BBSHD e-roadbike with Ultegra brakes, I can lock both my wheels up and skid it to a stop.
Hey Johnny. I'd just like to know, on a build like this, what would your ideal gear range be and with how many speeds? The bike I'm looking at is a 10 spead 11 to 46 tooth. Is that too many rings for shifting that kind of power? Will a chain withstand the periododical drops to the granny gear sufficiently?
Hi I just built a 1x9 29er see above video and I purchased my motor kit from John you should have no problem may need a spacer or two on the drive side I did motor hit chain stay and I had to use the lekkie 42 with a 19mm offset to move chain in. Shifting is fine just don’t peddle for a second when changing gears because chainring will still be turning when you stop peddling. So you don’t really need a shift sensor just be careful shifting my chain has not derailed once I pull 35mph top speed with the HD and a 48 volt 17amh battery.
I only wish the motor was able to sit inside the triangle as I do not like the look, and it is a bit concerning it will hit something directly screwing oneself over more importantly, but also damaging the motor. And of course that low gear for the front is way to small. Change out the front, or No change out the front as the jump will be too massive.
Now if you know somebody that knows somebody cool your price is right but outside of that no sir I've been hunting down these things for months now you going to pay a good penny 😭😭
Thanks for your videos !

Thanks!

Can you tell me how the chain line is on this build and will it shift to all rear gears? You did a great build on this and I'm impressed as always.
you index through the rear casette like a normal bike. just make sure you have the gear shift sensor.
I understand that it shifts like a normal bike. I'm asking if the chain line is good enough to index through all rear cogs.
I don’t have the gear shift sensor on mine video above as long as you let up peddling before you shift it’s fine
If chain line is off like mine was you need the Lekkie I used the 42 as John recommended and now it’s perfect
Was the installation simple? I am planning to do a build with this exact bike.
Have you done any dual suspension polygons?I have a t6 I wouldn’t mind converting

It’s more like an electric moped or scooter. For an electric cycling experience you have to have a torque sensor
can this work with the premier 5?
any current discount codes available right now ?

I have a 1x9 on a 29 and went with a Lekkie 42 works great!

He doesn't do hubs cuz he thinks (like my self) that they are trash
I need to find a guy like you in los angles
I'm thinking of using Tannus’ Armour inserts on my 29er with BBSHD as well. What's your opinion about them? Thanks.
I use pre slime filled tubes. Theyre heavier but for ebikes it's not noticeable.
Honestly though practice changing your tires it's super easy.
@@TheAgentAssassin i'm tired of changing tubes in the middle of commute. Too many staples, screws etc. are laying around

You would need new wheels that have a mount for disc rotors and adapters to mount the calipers to the frame.
