When I was a kid in 1967, my parents bought me a brand new Raleigh 3-speed in the same green color as this Triumph. It was a great bike and I wish I still had it. Your restoration of this bike brought back some happy memories. You gave new life to a classic well deserving of another chapter and the chance to make some new memories for someone who will appreciate its old-school hand craftsmanship. Great work. I'd love to see you bring some more classics back to life.

Great resto. Quick heads up at 19:00 (as you mentioned pedals being one of the few things you use torque for); for a torque reading to be correct when using a crow's foot, the crow's foot has to be 90deg to the head of the wrench, or you'll get an inaccurate reading. Great resto! Loved the hub cleaning. :)

Loves these videos, I have a 1950s Raleigh ladies bicycle which I found in the 1980s at a tip and restored it with my grandfather, it was then used by gran and then my mum and has been handed back to me. What a great Resto-Job! Gratulation! Bring back new life to old bikes is for me thousend times more satisfying then all the new, modern carbon and hightech stuff. Off cause the modern bikes are also great as sporttools and impressive, but they never come close to the charme and beauty of the old, heavy, chromloaded town or touring bikes who were built to last for Generations, carry heavy loads, bags or kids wirh you, summer and winter, year in year out. I own some of this old gems and enjoy therefor this videos the most - thank you 🎉

Have to say I learned a lot from watching you work, as my knowledge of bike mechanics stretches only to the 1990s when road bikes and mountain bikes became standard across brands. Thoroughly enjoyed this video, as it's for a well used but well loved bike which is more along the lines of what I work on. I'll be tagging this one for future reference as you provided an excellent view of the disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of the Sturmey Archer rear hub. I have a bike that was soooo close to being done, when I lost one of the small springs 😞, so I'm having to be patient until such time as another comes in.

Thanks for finding a more fitting saddle & preserving the dynamo lighting. People can be quick to remove these things because they look messy/don't work, rather than think they could be as old as the bike & may have always been fitted. And they are useful in winter. Keep up the good work. True professionals!

I've got an old 3 speed hub bike which I've stripped the hub and rebuilt. Was a bit concerned I'd get wrong but with plenty of photos all came good so was good to see I'd got it right. Thanks for a great video.

Absolutely stellar! I had to work on the same hub, well, without oiling port and with coaster break. This is about what I do with some bines: fix up old stuff to work well and look shitty (in my case). Best way to beat the thieves I've found so far. Loved the video, though I hoped to see a little test ride as the rational you've given for showing none doesn't apply to this project.

As a student and a part-time bike mechanic in a bike shop, I love your videos so much. I've been watching you for over half a year now approximately and I've learned a lot and you have given me so many ideas on tools and equipment to use when restoring or just doing a proper deep service. I've shown your videos and your channel to a large group of people that are in my Cycling Club and I just want to say thank you for the weekly videos. Props to you and to your awesome son Simon because this is practically my weekly 15 to 20 minutes of heaven and mental getaway. Cheers from Slovenia

@@Bikespeeds yes that's what you've got with the throwing away society. Quality isn't that important anymore. The bikes were that good that day, that it's economical not responsible anymore. But it's a pleasure to see those bikes, especially when you disassemble them.
And indeed I love to watch your video.
Also just normal without hand gloves. Lovely old fashioned in that way. Only than you've got feeling with the bike.

I have a 1974 Union single speed with a coaster brake. I dont think the brake hub has ever been opened, and it's working great. The paint has faded a lot, but with a new crankset and serviced bearings, plus an old brooks saddle, it rides great. I fixed both lights to run on the dynamo, the lights are "earthed" through the frame! Lovely old tech.

Amazing restoration. It was really interesting to see how that vintage stormer archer had extremely similar internals to the sram i-motion 3 that is fitted to my Mercedes Smart E-bike. I recently did a restoration on it myself by doing a full service, overhaul, battery refresh and cosmetic repairs. You guys make excellent restoration and servicing videos so keep up the good work 👍.

Thoroughly entertaining Lee & Simon, well done. I think this may well be my favourite production so far. I remember these bikes as a kid, very nostalgic. I used to love filling the rear hub with oil from my Dad's pump pot until it overflowed, 40 years on I find that it wasn't the thing to do! Lovely to meet you both the other week, the mug and T-Shirt are being put to great use in Cornwall!
