How To Transform Fear Into Strength - John Lovell

  • John Lovell is a former United States Army Ranger, firearms instructor and founder of Warrior Poet Society, known for his expertise in tactical training and philosophy.
It's often quoted that “it’s better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war“, but how should you cultivate this state of readiness? How can you become capable of standing strong when there is a battle to be fought, and sufficiently peaceful to be in touch with your emotions once it's over?
Expect to learn what it means to live free and die well and how to do so, how the Army prepares soldiers to face challenges once they integrate back into the real world, what happened when John came closest to death, why America needs more warriors despite a lack of a war, how people can express their vulnerability without feeling weak and fragile, what it means to be the most dangerous man in the room, why it’s important to face death before actually dying and much more...

Man is created to praise, reverence, and serve God our Lord, and by this means to save his soul.
And the other things on the face of the earth are created for man and that they may help him in prosecuting the end for which he is created.
From this it follows that man is to use them as much as they help him on to his end, and ought to rid himself of them so far as they hinder him as to it.
For this it is necessary to make ourselves indifferent to all created things in all that is allowed to the choice of our free will and is not prohibited to it; so that, on our part, we want not health rather than sickness, riches rather than poverty, honor rather than dishonor, long rather than short life, and so in all the rest; desiring and choosing only what is most conducive for us to the end for which we are created

Men don't just give up on society out of weakness, it's usually because they have been attacked from all angles just for simply existing.
It's becoming more clear to me that deciding not to persevere in today's society as a man is an act of defiance,
The more we fight back against this system the more push back there is. This has become a war of attrition.

    • @AndyTomlins
      @AndyTomlins 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Not really. Theres a reason so many of the homeless are ex-forces and so many cant deal with civilian life. You HAVE to be selfish to function in society. This warrior ethic where you sacrifice for others will lead you to ruin in civilian life. There is only one purpose in capitalism, yourself and taking everything you can. If not, others will and they will take your share too.

While i was a cop working the downtown precinct, my beat was the bar district. Always had Rangers around and this was from 06-12 so the GWOT was really hot an md heavy. Got to know a bunch of Rangers from the 1/75 and they were some of the finest human beings I've ever met. A buddy of mine who was nicknamed Mongo was always such a great dude. He bought it on one deployment to the Stan. I walked into a bar for a bar check and saw his bros standing at the bar and welcomed them back, looked around and asked "Where's Mongo? Already shacked up somewhere?" Cracking a joke. When i saw the looks on their faces i just thought "Oh no" and one of the guy's said he bought it. Broke my heart. They said they were about to do a shot in his memory so i told the bartender that this round was on me and to look after these gentlemen. The barkeep gave them their shots and I said "don't forget about me now". The bartender laughed and said "youre on duty brother" i said "I'll take the write up now give me my drink". The bartender poured me a shot, and Mongos brothers toasted him and we drank. When i tossed my money down to cover the round the bartender said "nah bro. Your moneys no good tonight" and those Rangers drank for free. I asked Mongos sergeant to give his family my deepest sympathy. I am not ashamed ti say i had tears in my eyes for a good while after that. Im also not ashamed to say i loved every one of those men like they were my brothers. When i got off duty in the morning i went home and hugged and kissed my kids and tucked them back in. Got in bed, hugged and kissed my wife, laid there and stared up at the ceiling. My wife (who was with me throught two deployments and was now also a cops wife) asked me if i was ok. All i could croak out was "Mongos dead" and i wept for him and all my bros who didnt make it home. God bless my wife, she held me and said "Thank God for men". Mongo i still miss you bro. God bless the Army Rangers and every man and woman who put their asses in harms way so that others may live their lives. Thank You, Father, for putting men like that in the world. All Glory and Honor is Yours Lord for without You there is no Glory and no Honor. Amen.

When we face Death and survive , we may still have fears , but it defines what our LIfe really means to us ; and all those that we know . And what we canand will do to protect ourselves , and those we love .

Glad I found this on the feed. Subscribed and ready for more.
To John, thank you for opening my eyes. I've been facing an uphill battle with the family farm, and whether or not I want to continue working here, and eventually taking ownership. My dad was always gone, pushing to do the work, and neglecting our family. He also placed, and still places, a lot of responsibility on my shoulders. I've resented him for all of it, because I've always felt I missed out on the childhood I saw all my friends got to have. And he hasn't been able to understand that.
I fear if I leave again, because we can't rectify this issue, he'll be disappointed in me. And that's caused immense stress in my work and home life. Your words about facing the fear have given me a boost in pushing forward towards finding a proper resolution. Thank you.

This is becoming more common that men are trying to be better trained. We are looking to be better every day. I know I dry fire every day, I am reading or listening to something informative. I know this is something my GF/Best friend appreciates. She is a shooter as well but she never questions when I walk on the street side of the road when we walk or I walk in front of her when we have people of unknown intentions walking towards us but can't change direction. However when I was shot last year she started immediate care on me and held cover for me while I finished applying my tourniquet. She is a beautiful feminine woman who I'm proud to be with. The night we were shot at, I was willing to sacrifice myself to protect her. She is a woman of faith and I saw her praying for me when I was being stripped in the hospital. My biggest fear wasn't being shot, wasn't care under fire but being rolled away from her and not knowing if it was the last time I would see her. She was by my side while I recovered and we are working through the trauma of that Night, putting the attacker on prison and everything else that comes with a random attack.

The operators you fanboy for and secretly want to slurp are almost all scumbags homie
Cole’s new book Code Over Country: The Tragedy and Corruption of SEAL TEAM SIX (New York: Bold Type Books, 2022) describes how Kyle’s self-aggrandizement and violence and deceit fits with a wider pattern.
While the Navy SEALs are celebrated as noble heroes of democracy in popular culture, Cole pictures them as pathologically sadistic assassins who operate outside the law and without fear of consequences for their actions.
In Afghanistan and Iraq, Navy SEALs were known for exposing the brain matter of people they killed by splitting open their skulls by a rifle or pistol round at the upper forehead in a process called canoeing and would use special knives to conduct “skinnings.”[3]
After they returned from deployment, SEALs would watch “bleed-out” videos-essentially war porn-at Bagram Air Base as part of what Cole termed a “sadist culture.”
According to Cole, many SEALs modeled their behavior after SS Gestapo officers who joined the French foreign legion during the Vietnam War and whose exploits were memorialized in a 1971 book called Devil’s Guard.[5]
In 2008, SEAL Team 6 upset even the CIA when they killed Taliban militants in a compound in Jalalabad while they were sleeping and then posed gleefully with the mutilated bodies.
The CIA had wanted to interrogate the suspects who were allegedly running an insurgent cell near the CIA’s base.
      Savages, Sociopaths and Serial Killers”
SEAL Eddie Penney, who served five tours of duty in Afghanistan, characteristically had his entire left calf tattooed with 87 skulls-the number of kills his unit made. He described the thrill of killing as being “like a drug; the greatest feeling I’ve ever experienced in my life.”[6]
When SEAL commander Britt Slabinski told his operators in SEAL Team 6 that he “wanted a head on a platter,” one of his men severed a man’s neck. Slabinski shot another Afghan 20 times in the legs just to see his body twitch. “It was like a game,” he said, “really good therapy for everyone who was there.”
After an investigator asked some of Slabinski’s men why they felt the need to mutilate dead bodies, they responded “well, they’re savages. They don’t play by the rules, so why should we?”[7]
Justin Sheffield, who served in Slabinski’s unit, wrote in his memoirs: “We’ve been called everything, savages, sociopaths, serial killers, whatever. In a way, it’s all a little bit true. What we are not is the guy who is gonna hand out a soccer ball to the kids and make sure everyone’s got medical attention in the village and shit like that. We were the guys who were gonna go and kill people. Period. In fact we killed more bad guys during [Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan] and [Operation Iraqi Freedom] than all other groups combined.”[8]
Besides Kyle, another poster boy of the SEALs’ depravity is Eddie Gallagher, who slit the throat of a 17-year-old Iraqi prisoner in Mosul in May 2017 in front of his platoon-mates.
New York Times journalist David Philipps wrote that the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) report into Gallagher’s conduct “read like something out of Apocalypse Now. Chief Gallagher appeared to have gone way upriver, shooting children and old men, firing rockets and machine guns into neighborhoods, doing drugs, [and] stabbing a wounded prisoner of war to death.”[9]
And yet Gallagher emerged as a conservative hero, with Donald Trump writing a celebratory tweet after Gallagher was acquitted in a Navy court because a witness lied on the stand.
