    Good to see a clear explanation on what is different between the TG-7 and the previous TG-6. I got more from your video than an hour on the internet and discussions at a local camera shop. Keep the videos coming.

    Thanks for your excellent video. I am a TG6 owner and there's probably not enough here to justify upgrading. But still nice to see OM systems are committed to the tough series of cameras. I am always taken aback by the criticisms of small sensor compact cameras in comparison with smart phones.

      Thanks for watching 😊 I think I’d be the same - it’s great that OM System have continued the range and brought in some improvements, but it’s not such a leap that TG-6 owners are likely to swap.
      Don’t worry, we also get lots of people telling us how their phones are better than the full frame mirrorless cameras we test 🤦🏼‍♀️😅

    I sent this camera back after buying it, the image quality is horrific and then I found out why, upscaling to 4k whill still using the same 12megapixel camera as the old cameras.

    Hi, I would like some advice. I'm undecided whether to buy a Go Pro 12 or the Olympus TG7. What do you recommend? I would use it for photographing landscapes and especially for snorkeling. Can filters be mounted on the Olympus TG7? Thank you

    Very disappointed with OM system! After so many years not even a better sensor or better resolution. Totally not worth the upgrade from the TG-6. Release the 8 .

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you currently own a TG-6, then there's only a few changes that you may want to consider upgrading for - we cover these at 4:40. If you do own the TG-6 then you still have a great camera and hopefully will carry on enjoying the results it gives! We were very impressed with the images the TG-7 camera and sensor produced.
      More megapixels doesn't mean better images or more benefits. 12MP on this size of sensor will result in a good, detailed image (as seen in our samples!) and means better low-light performance for one. Cramming more pixels onto a small sensor would give you the option to crop more or print larger high resolution prints (you could print approx. A3 at 300dpi), but it would also reduce the pixel size. This has knock on effects which start to affect image quality. Realistically, most people are sharing images digitally and don't require a huge resolution sensor for stills and certainly not for video.
      Phone cameras will often try to cram as many pixels onto a tiny sensor as possible... perpetuating the myth that more megapixels is better, but that's because they lack the ability to include a lens with optical zoom. This camera allows you to zoom up to 4x optically... rather than using more megapixels so you can digitally zoom.

    About the "modes" are discussed ..... do they make any difference for someone who will only ever shoot in RAW?
    Also, is there a truly manual setting, where I can set the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture myself?
    Finally, I am interested in pixel-level image quality. As one who maxes out the image quality of my full frame DSLRs, will I be pleased with the IQ from this small sensor, when shooting at 1600 ISO, cropping deeply, and printing at 36" by 24"?

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, thanks for watching! In answer to your questions:
      The "scenes" and I suspect (but haven't tested) Construction Mode will apply the processing in-camera to the jpeg. The RAW image will be just the raw data, unprocessed, as normal.
      It doesn't have a full manual mode.
      36x24 (or approx. A1) is a very large print and you simply aren't going to be able to print to that size from a 12MP sensor and get good results. You will get up to about A3 at 300dpi... but this is a quarter of the size you mention. If print is a key output for you, you'll need a camera with a 50+ MP sensor to create 300dpi images at that size or 36MP for 200dpi (fine if they're being viewed further away). Or you might get away with an interchangeable lens camera with sensor shift high-resolution mode, depending on the subject you shoot. Either way... I doubt from your requirements that the TG-7 is a suitable camera for your needs.
      You may want to consider getting a dive housing for your DSLR if you want to go underwater. Or if you need a pocket-sized, rugged camera, then you will need to accept that it simply cannot perform to the same standard as a full-frame DSLR, but that it does give far greater options for a photographer (and peace of mind!) than using a phone or even a GoPro.

    • @TomReichner
      @TomReichner ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WilkinsonCameras I do need 36" by 24" prints to look good when viewed from 36" away. But that doesn't require 300 dots per inch. I got very acceptable 36" by 24" prints from my Canon 1D Mark 4, and that only has 16 megapixels ... but I cropped down to 12 MP for many of those images and the clients are very pleased with their 36" by 24" prints (on metal). So 12 MP should be just find as long as the quality of those pixels is right up there with the interchangeable lens DSLRs. It's really not about dots per inch or anything quantifiable. It has everything to do with results that can't be quantified, just about how visually pleasing the image is when enlarged, and how rich the find detail looks to my eye.

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was quite hazy on the day we were shooting, so this may explain some of the sample shots looking a little flat! We still can't edit the RAW files which would give a lot more editing flexibility. However, we do think most people will use this camera in a way where they don't really spend long, if any time, editing the images - but it's a nice feature to have. Thanks for watching! :)

      @@WilkinsonCameras We are using the TG-6 as underwater dive camera. The main advantage is that you don’t have to worry about it even in rough circumstances, and that you can switch between macro and wide without fussing with lenses underwater. Usability and versatility is second to none in this segment. It is also good for photos on the beach, but my stone age Canon G9X mk II with much inferior specs literally blows it out of the water when it comes to image quality. I would love to use the TG-series as main travel camera, though. Sigh, maybe a future model will bring some improvements.

    • @WilkinsonCameras
      @WilkinsonCameras  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      All Olympus cameras are being rebanded "OM system" (note it is "OM System", not "OM Systems"), hence our description "rebrand". This is much simpler to explain to people then going over the details of a business transaction that took place 2.5 years ago and is of little interest to people who want to learn about a camera you can take under water!
      If you've got any questions about the TG-7, then let us know - if not, we hope you still enjoyed and learned from the video, despite our "amateurish" choice to gloss over the business operations of OM Digital Solutions with the word "rebrand".
