Lovely drives! the Samsung HD753LJ sounds just like my HD103UJ 1TB version! it has a lot of data saved in so the seektest takes such a long time now lol the health is good but it kind of suffers from seektest. like it tries to do it and sometimes it tests without issues sometimes it takes longer to start the test. edit: seektest is like from HD502HJ but longer
17:28 Correction: The model number is actually HUA722050CLA330, I misread it at first because of the damaged label. Also that drive is now dead after more tests.
i didnt mean that loud tick , when the heads land they do a squeaking noise , when they takeoff from the disk they do a different noise , wich wd800 and wd400 do (many disk parking drives have the same sound when spinning up) that noise sounds like there is damage in the parking area where the slider is hitting but actualy its built like this@@OpenGL4.6
they're not actually that bad in person, just the side effects of amplification. this drive is really quiet for some reason (when seeking), and AAM is disabled too, which is weird.
I had this Samsung drive 1:40 160gb version it was running so good and Solid for some reason after a while when i tried to run the drive the drive spin up in a weird way it does spin up but doesn't stop when it reaches at 7200rpm it Goes more than that like reaching to 10k+ rpm and doesn't seek test just keeps running and running and does nothing and. Never detects in pc Obviously it had problem with the pcb i tried to peek its components and end up burning motor ic by pressing the motor connectors (rest in peace 🕊️) At least drive must be ok mechanically but im curious for it bios swap cuz its in its main ic(if it is ok or not) it doesn't have 8 pin bios rom chip
Lovely set of drives! I'll never get tired of hearing a Deskstar.
Same here : )))

yeah, i didn't know at the time because this was just a low effort rushed video, but thanks for the info anyway

For Seagate you can look at Date code or DOM on some drive, usually the first 2 number of date code is year of manufacturing
2033 💀
You got a Maxtor DM 17!
That is SATA, nice!

That ultrastar really decided to head out huh
5:02 the date code 11502 with the decoder means the drive was manufactured on 6/12/2011
I have That exact same maxtor 6E040T0 with pcb protection shield that is very rare to find these models with shields 4:13
I didn't know it was rare, thanks for telling me!
@@OpenGL4.6 sorry it was in 4:13☺️
@@technicalsos1109 it's fine, i knew which one you were talking about anyway
I had this drive many years ago in my childhood but i destroyed it so badly back then 😔 5:41
Rip
1:54 I wonder why Samsung was using pattern-based pulsing on their spindle motor on this one. Still sounds cool though!
they did that quite a lot with some of their newer drives (especially the Spinpoint F1 series)
1:01 the date code 07095 on the drive using a decoder means it was manufactured on 9/3/2006
10:16 the ticking noises are normal, its the head unparking. my wd800 (same model as this one but two disks) also has the same exact ticking
The head unparking would be the first click before it does the initialization sequence

6:30 This seagate drive is from 9-12-2005 according fron the date code
6:31 the date code says 06111 which corresponds to 9/12/2005
5:55 I believe I see the code 11386 which means 3/24/2011
9:15 *wow* those are the worst bearings I’ve ever heard in a IC35 series drive
they're not actually that bad in person, just the side effects of amplification.

Really u had use pipe meme sound in the end 🤣
5:51 i have lots of those Seagate ST31000523AS
they are pretty cool in their ways, however this particular one was corrupting data so i stopped using it.

7:51 the mfg is at the bottom of the drive and it says dec 18 2013
