Additional tips: 1. Don't press the EV button, let the car manage it. EV mode, by itself, does not save gas. It uses energy from earlier, when you burned more gas than you needed to drive the car. And since there is about a 5% loss each time you put energy into, or take it out of, the battery, you only get about 90% of that energy. So why does the car use it? Because if you use the ICE to only maintain, say, 55 mph on flat ground, it is about 33% efficient. If you generate twice as much power as you need, it is 40% efficient. You use only 65% more gas, and you can recover that at 90% efficiency. This is exactly what some other hybrids accomplish with a technique called "pulse and glide." But they have to speed up for the "pulse" phase, and slow down in the "glide" phase. The HAH does it by itself. If you can, set cruise control on a flat highway to 55 mph, and watch the Power Flow Meter (the cartoon with the engine, battery, and wheels). It will alternate between charging and EV modes, in about equal time intervals. 2. The only time the EV button is useful, is if there is a danger the battery will over-charge. 3. Don't accelerate too slowly. It arguably helps you in a conventional car, but the HAH manages the power flow so that isn't an issue. But don't jackrabbit, either. 4. The car is finely tuned for speeds less than about 65 to 70 mph. Above that, the engine needs to operate above its optimum efficiency band. 5. Use A/C on the highway. It is pretty efficient, but opening the windows above about 45 mph creates a huge amount of drag. 6. Brake gently, anticipate stops, and use the paddles. Just be aware that your brake lights do not come on.
Fair point but is more like a very expensive car with a bigger monthly note, you may be able to afford the car but it’ll be tight every pay check, or you can choose a less expensive car with smaller note with bring you saving to your saving account, it’s about choosing according to your priorities, plus I notice this, driving on the stress lane (faster lane) you’ll get a few minutes faster but piss off for fighting with everybody (at least that was me few years back).

Netman88, correct me if you think I’m wrong but you made a distinction between paddle regeneration and brake regeneration like they were two things and I thing they’re add on , meaning with the paddles you’ll to 4 bars of regen and by pressing the brake pedal you’ll increase the amount to regeneration up to the point where the car start to relaying on braking to slowdown accordingly to your necessity.

great tips and tricks and yes they are all correct. Beautiful Accord you have there. I am saving up myself for a Platinum White Accord Hybrid Touring. Gorgeous cars. My wife has a '17 Accord Hybrid Touring which is rated for 49/47/48 but she has been averaging 50+ (usually 53 MPG). She commutes to Downtown LA so the traffic helps with the brake regen. Great cars. Best of luck. Yes ECON is the best to get the best MPG. you can switch it to Normal if you need more power on a freeway onramp, otherwise just leave it on ECO. its not that bad and you will be laughing all the way to the bank with the saved $$ on gas.

I activate the EV mode as soon I feel that I am going to drive at a constant speed and not going to accelerate anymore. This gives me MPG of even 54 in some trips.
You will probably get better MPG if you don't activate EV mode. Let the car do it for you. You aren't saving any gas when you are in EV mode. You are just using gas that you burned earlier. The HAH's engine is most efficient - 40.8% efficient to be exact - at 54 mph and 34 horsepower. Unfortunately, cruising at 54 mph needs only about 17 horsepower, and it is only about 35% efficient. So to go 10 miles, it burns 10 miles worth of gas in 5 miles, storing half of the energy it gets in the battery. Then it runs on just the battery for 5. It ends up burning 1/8 less gas this way, than if it would have gone the same 10 miles without saving any energy. But that was a simplified analysis. There are some losses involved in storing energy in the battery. It should only do it when necessary, and by pressing the EV mode button you make it do so more than necessary.
of course I do most of this but have a few hills, lots of traffic, necessary a/c, lots of short trips and driving the car kind of like normal and not irritating to others by accelerating too slowly manner and getting maybe 37 mpg on combined average, better than the gas model but nowhere close to the sticker. was lucky and got a deal on one for about the same price as a gas only model this area has fairly cheap gas and I guess they are not in demand.
I tend not to worry about the effect of steep hills, as I know that I will reap rewards on the downhill. However, I recently had an episode where the hill was so steep, that on the way down, I filled my battery to capacity 1/2 way down, and lost much of the benefit. I was very sad.

The Accord Hybrid is now more reasonably priced compared to the previous generation Accord Hybrid. I think it's around $1500-$2000 more than the regular gas vehicle trim or so. Brakes and oil changes are less frequent given it performs the brake regens before using the brakes to stop the vehicle and oil changes are less often given the engine is not always on. The ev battery shouldn't need any maintenance if under 150K miles. There is a sacrifice on acceleration with hybrids compared to gas only vehicles due to the weight of the battery and driving technique may differ a bit. That I mean, one may want to be lighter with the gas pedal while acceleration so it uses ev instead of gas and leave some distance between the vehicle in the front as you'll brake earlier to capture the kinetic energy to charge the battery. That's my take thus far.
It isn't maintenance heavy in the long run. The hybrid is actually less complex than the gas engine car, since there is no turbo, no transmission, no starter motor, and many other components are simpler.

Agree. EV Mode, when accessible seems to disengage some of the gearing which adds drag on the system. I get big savings this way.

I had to finesse (really light on the throttle) to get around the mpg before. The EPA numbers was pretty hard to achieve in my areas also.

I've been trying to do EV mode when EV battery is full downhill. There are some small gain but nothing close to 1 MPG though.

My e200d uses 60mpg lol, don’t know why everyone is so hyped about the mpg of hybrids. In Europe the figures that you now see is normal for a ice car

I found that the best way to improve mpg's is the buy a Toyota Camry!
