I like the Subharmonicon to make many notes, not just one. Here's how I do it! I honestly don't think I'm great at showing musicians how to make music, but people kept asking, so Noir's here's with a how to, it may help wrap your head around harmony on this lovely instrument. If it helps great, if not, meh haha.

Subharmonicon actually makes great acid bass sounds...sending eg to filter to open filter with midi controller. The filter is great too very open very bright and musical . Moog really hit this out the park even though moog took the ideas from the past its great.

Thanks for posting this video! I got my Subharmonicon a few days ago and am having a ton of fun exploring it . The concept you discuss here is really interesting and can be used for another technique as well: chord changes. With 6 oscillators you can make 5 distinct chords (by my count) depending on how you blend them ... an intriguing concept!

  • @Madmohawkfilms

You make it look easy. Seen a few folks say that the Subharmonicon is the Gateway to Madness and that once you Find the sweet spot hit RECORD NOW as they’ve turned it off and come back later. No knobs etc changed and the lush beauty they found no longer exists.
Yet I’m still considering it for its ability to do just as you demonstrate in this video.
Thanks for making it look reasonably simple and explaining clearly.

In early firmware versions, some settings weren't saved properly (e.g. which oscillator or sub-oscillator the sequencers are affecting), which was causing this kind of pain. It was an easy fix though - fiddle with the sequencer targeting until you're back to the sound you were after. It's been fixed for a while now.

Haha, I’m sure the haters will return at some point. I’ve been doing things my way since the beginning and won’t apologize for being me. (Plus, the way you know you’re doing well is when people spend time out of their lives just to hate, you kinda need people to waste their time like that 😅) My problem was that I actually responded at all. After some talking to from other better TH-camrs than myself I learned that you literally have to ignore the comments section. I was taking it personal, now, I kinda have taken a “who cares” approach to all this. So I literally don’t read 90% of comments now, just create. That’s what most others let me know they do. It sucks, but you have to just decide those people need to find peace. I’ve made mistakes, but heck, I don’t dwell on hiccups from the past. Thanks for the kindness, I mean, the world is crazy so why not create things if and when we can :)

However when I first tune my osc 1 to G and sub 1 to C with no problem, whenever I try to tune the sub 2 to the lowest C, my tuner just goes crazy, impossible to get a clean note, it jumps to different notes constantly... I see you didn't quantize the notes to Ji or Et, but I have better results tuning with the Ji 8... does it matter? Any idea what might be the problem? Thanks!

A good tips that have helped me with that is to add an "Exciter" plugin to the track. (Logic pro x has a really good stock Exciter) An Exciter will add harmonics to the sound and make it sound brighter. It can be a good way of getting more of a prophet-ish sound on your synthesizer. It's sometimes used on human voices to make it sound more clear in a mix 😊
Sorry for my bad English. If this doesn't help, I hope someone other or OP Will give a good answer. 😊

If you like the Peak but think it has too much bass, it might be worth considering a Hydrasynth instead. It's similar but less bassy, has some significant UI improvements (especially for mod matrix assignment), and offers more effects and a second filter if you want to EQ sounds into a mix.
